The Big Bad Wolf Mate

Chapter What Just Happened Here

I watched as he shifted into his massive wolf and ran off into the darkness. The air suddenly shifted and a cool chill ran down my body, making me hug myself tightly. I didn't really know if he meant what he said but I knew I had to make him see that mates weren't just some lie. I know he felt the pull and I could even see the disbelief in his eyes when it happened which only made me optimistic.

I walked back out the woods and to the pack house dragging my feet. How could someone not want their mate? Is it possible that the moon goddess made mistakes or was this just one of those you have to trust me moments? Either way, I wasn't going down without a fight, if he wanted to reject me it would have to be for a very bad reason.

Once I got to my room, I fell onto the bed and stared up at the ceiling. With everything going on I just wanted to forget about it for now and get some sleep but my mind was racing and images of Bishop's body was flooding it. My wolf was trying to make me go back after him but I refused to be the desperate she-wolf who always ran to a man for him to fix things. No, this was my chance to pull up my big girl panties and show the men in my life that I was more than just some pretty face.

I closed my eyes and tried to remember the good old days, when Kam, Mik and I used to run around the pack without a care in the world. We would pretend we were the three musketeers and would fight robbers to defend our members. There was a time when things were simpler and I didn't know it back then, but my fate had already been sealed and no matter how hard I tried to change it, things would never be the way they once were.

The next morning, I woke up and immediately regret fighting. It had been too long since I sparred and my achy joints and muscles proved it. I decided to go for a session before the fighters started their classes for the day so I jumped out of bed and grabbed some clothes then went straight to the battlegrounds.

When I reached the circle, Chase and Cole were having a sparring session and I couldn't help but watch. They each moved in their own dominant way but Chase easily had more power than Cole, but that still didn't stop him from giving it his all.

"Good morning ladies!"

They both growled at me for interrupting their concentration but continued fighting like I wasn't even there. After a few minutes I could hear someone behind me and when I turned around I saw Mik stomping down the hill mumbling angrily to herself. I tensed when I noticed her eyes were locked on Cole and almost stopped her but decided against it. She brushed past me and straight up to the men who immediately broke apart when she snarled.

"You and me, right now, pretty boy."

Chase, Cole and I all looked between each other and I instantly felt sorry for him. If there was one thing I knew about Mik it was that she was a god damn Tasmanian devil, fast and destructive and took out everything in her way. We fought at our pack many times and she gave me a run for my money but my Alpha blood always beat her and she hated it.

"You sure you want to fight me? I mean, I don't want to hurt you, little thing."

Her face turned five shades of red before she huffed out her response. "What's wrong, mate, afraid I'll kick your ass?"

He laughed and said "No little thing, I don't want to hurt you."

"You can't hurt me. I've never lost a fight, except to Ember and that's only because winning is in her DNA. Now come on, pretty boy."

She backed up and got into her fighter's stance while Cole contemplated his answer. I could see all types of emotions flashing in his eyes, love, lust, but mostly hesitation. If he did this and he lost he would never live it down but if he beat her it would break her.

He stepped forward and it was clear what was about to happen. I wanted to leave before they tore each other's throats out but I couldn't look away, it was like the chaos that was about to ensue was drawing me further in. I stood back as Chase walked to my side and hit my shoulder.

"You think this is a good idea?"

"I never question Mik when it comes to fighting, ultimately she will do what she wants to do. I just hope Cole can handle her."

We both watched nervously as they began circling each other, neither wanting to be the first to strike but I knew Mik didn't like to waste time and before he saw it coming she threw the first punch hard to his side. He barely flinched and backed away thinking of how to proceed while Mik grew frustrated that her attack wasn't hard enough. I could see the wheels in her mind turning and I knew this would get dirty very quick.

She ran towards him but he dodged her as she kicked out her foot and instead grabbed her leg flinging her to the ground. She rolled and quickly recovered while he stood there watching her every move. She jumped up and lunged again, only this time she managed to hit his leg and knock him down then got on top of him to restrain him. He flipped them over but she wiggled out of his grip and crawled away.

As soon as she was far enough from reach she stood up and I could see the anger in her eyes, she was out for blood but every time she tried he was two steps ahead of her. He was truly the perfect match for her, goddess given, hard headed and a pretty bad ass fighter. She tried again to outsmart him but when she picked up her right hand for a punch he grabbed her fist and spun her around, wrapping his arms around her waist.

She began kicking her legs and trying her hardest to get loose but his grip only tightened and eventually she stilled when he leaned down and whispered something into her ear then released her. She barely touched the ground before she stormed off towards the house as he stood their staring stoically while she walked away. He never looked at us but instead turned towards the woods and shifted into his golden brown wolf and took off into the trees.

"What was that about?" Chased as with a stunned look on his face.

"I don't know but I better go talk to Mik. Think he'll be ok?" I asked as I watched Cole disappear through the thicket. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

He shrugged his shoulders and followed behind his best friend. Eager to discuss what just happened while I followed Mik into the house but I knew better than to go straight to her room demanding answers, especially without my secret weapon. I decided I would let her cool off before I tried to bribe her for an answer and I couldn't help but think how hard this must be for her, she was always so strong and independent but when I saw the two of them together I got the feeling that she was fighting her instincts and the bond in order to keep it that way.

I know Ember can prove her worthiness to Bishop on the battle field but can she win his heart?

Do you think Cole and Mik will ever get along and let their bond strengthen?

What do you think Cole told her that got her so upset that they both stormed off?
