The Big Bad Wolf Mate

Chapter Oh, It's On

I stood there as the young fighter debated whether to take me up on my challenge or not. I could tell he wanted to and his ego, along with the countless number of other fighters surrounding the ring, wouldn't let him walk away.

He took a step towards me and I said "Now take it easy on me, please." I batted my eyelashes as he crept closer to me.

"Oh don't worry, hun, I'll go easy on you."

I laughed and thought for a second about letting him make the first move, but then what kind of warrior would I be if let my opponent get the first punch. Without any more internal deliberation, I lunged forward, taking him completely off guard and swung with my left arm, delivering a powerful upper cut. The sound of his jaw cracking made my adrenaline rush and I couldn't help but smile as he turned his head and spit out a large amount of blood.

He growled at the surprise attack and ran towards me, aiming for my mid section. Knowing what his move would be before he made it, I dodged to the right and swung around to see him landing on the ground after tripping over his own feet.

His anger was getting the best of him and I knew his next shot would be cheap so I almost anticipated his scream as he jumped up and ran back at me. I leaped up at the same time and spun my body, extending my left leg out and made contact with his ribs, sending him flying to the ground.

He didn't get up this time, but instead shamefully hung his head as he sat on the ground. The silence around us was deafening and I couldn't help but walk over and extend my hand to him. He looked at me with humiliation in his eyes and took my hand letting me pull him up from the ground. He nodded his head and walked off towards the locker rooms.

It was one of the shortest fights I’d ever had but when you’ve just been dodged by a girl three times, I guess it was enough to quick while you weren’t completely embarrassed.

I felt a tingle run down my spine as the wind picked up and brushed against my warm skin, causing an eruption of goosebumps to form along my arms. I didn't know if it was my recent victory or if my mate was secretly watching from somewhere and I instantly remembered I needed to find him.

"Alright boys time for rounds. Everybody meet me at the South Border." Chase said from behind me.

I turned with an apologetic look on my face as he watched the young prospect walk away in defeat.

"Whoa, you must be Ember! I've heard a lot about you but I didn't really think it was all true. I'm Teddy and that was my brother Dustin, he's training to be the next head warrior and take over our dad's position."

"He will get there, he just has to stop letting his anger control his actions. Number one rule in fighting is never show your emotions."

Teddy laughed and ran after his brother while Chase eyed me.

"Did you have to kick his ass in front of everyone?"

"Hey, I didn't know who he was and if someone would have introduced me to the pack like he was supposed to, this might not have happened."

He chuckled and shook his head. "Well, please don't fight anyone else. I don't think the others could take that type of beating and walk away like that."

I shrugged my shoulders and laughed at the thought of his entire warrior class walking around with puffed out chests trying to fight the only female who dared challenge them.

"How long will you be gone?"

"Rounds usually take a few hours, why? Do you want to get into more trouble?" He said as he stared out into the woods before us.

"I'm sorry Chase but you know as well as I do, that I can't go against the moon goddess."

His face hardened and his eyes narrowed but I could see the pain just behind his façade. He knew what I had to do but being the big cousin he was he didn't want me to get hurt. I appreciated it but I knew how to handle myself and I would be sure that my mate knew the same thing.

"I know you do, just promise me you'll be careful, Ember. He isn't a good guy." He said before he turned around and jogged off towards the other warriors.

I looked back towards the woods and saw his majestic grey wolf leaping over the brush. If I was going to convince him to talk to me I would have to be more proactive than just standing on the sidelines while I waited for him to magically change his mind. I looked around to make sure no one was watching me then I slipped into the tree line, following his scent further into the forest.

I made it to a broken log where I noticed his messy coat blowing in the breeze. He slammed his tail down and I rolled my eyes when I realized he knew I was behind him.

"I'm not going away until you talk to me." I said matter-of-factly.

He growled pitifully, as if he were having a fight with his human, then stood up and shifted. I couldn't help but stare at his amazing body, his taut muscles twitching as he moved towards me and the way his chiseled abs formed perfectly, all the way down towards his V. He cleared his throat as my eyes wandered further down his body making me snap back up at his face.

He walked right past me then said “What do you want, Red? I thought I told you to stay away from me?”

“My name is Ember and you know I can’t do that, you’re my mate.”

He snorted as he walked closer towards me and said “Let’s just say that you are my mate, why would I choose to stay with you when I didn’t want my first one. Mates are just a crock of shit and a way to join pathetic lonely wolves who couldn't get anyone on their own. And all you women are the same, you take advantage of that then move on to greener pastures with someone you think has more to give. Well I refuse to go through that again. I don’t want another mate.”

My chest grew heavy at the thought of him rejecting me. I didn’t know the circumstances of his first chance and to tell you the truth I wasn’t really thrilled to be his second choice but if the moon goddess said it had to be like this, well then I wasn’t going to refuse.

“Because it would be blasphemy. Please, let me prove to you that I am good enough and that I would never hurt you.”

He stepped closer to me, letting his hard naked body brush against mine and leaned down to my ear saying “You get one chance. But if you do anything to betray me, we will reject each other.” He stepped back and said “And the name is Bishop.”

Damn, why did Ember have to do that to Dustin. HAAAA! Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
