Chapter The Next Morning
The soft sounds of snoring woke me from the best sleep I had ever had and when I looked over and saw my mate's face everything made sense. I couldn't explain it but it was as if all our problems had faded and all that was left was the most unconditional type of love.
I ran my fingers across his soft pouty lips watching as he stirred slightly and kissed the pad of my finger before pulling me into his chest. As amazing as it felt, my bladder was screaming to be emptied and I needed to get up before an embarrassing accident made this extremely awkward.
I began to worm my way from under his arm when he opened his eyes and said, "Trying to get away from me already?"
"Never. I just have, um, some things to take care of."
He saw the pained look in my face and released his hold on me letting me run from the bed to the bathroom. After I finished I brushed my teeth and splashed some water on my face trying to look somewhat presentable, even though he had already seen my morning face and didn't run screaming and hiding.
When I opened the door the bed was empty and my heart felt like it was in my throat. I walked back over to my side and fell down flinging my hands above my head when my knuckles crunched against a small piece of paper. I picked it up and read the words, marveling at the beautiful script text written perfectly on the lineless white sheet.
I had some emergency business to attend to but I will be back shortly. Feel free to roam just don't get lost.
- Bishop
I placed the note on the bedside table and walked to his closet for some clothes. Once I was dressed I made my way to the kitchen when I ran into Deacon.
"Well good morning, Luna."
I rolled my eyes and punched his shoulder and said, "I'm not your Luna."
"Yet." He said as he continued down the hall towards his office.
His words stuck with me, like hot tar to a brand new roof, burning me deep inside my soul. Would spending all this time here give others the same idea that Deacon had? As much as I wanted to return home to run my pack, a terrible feeling washed over me at the thought of leaving and never coming back.
When I first ran away, I never imagined I would find my mate let alone fall so deeply head over heels that even the thought of being away from each other for just a moment sent my head into a tailspin. I leaned against the counter fighting back the tears when I heard someone come in.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was in here. Would you like something to eat, Ms."
I turned around to see a young girl standing in the doorway shuffling quickly to the fridge.
"My name is Ember and no that's ok, I'll just grab a honey bun." I said as I reached for the handle on the pantry door.
"No ma'am. I am under strict orders from the Alpha to make sure you are taken care of."
"Thank you but this is fine."
Opening the wrapper, I took a huge bite of the sweet icing and moaned as the cinnamon touched my tongue.
"My name is Naomi and I am training to be the cook for the pack. I am available at any time but please..." She grabbed the delicious treat from my hands and threw it in the trash then continued to say, "Do not litter your body with this junk if I am not around."
"Hey! It's not junk, it happens to be a well balanced breakfast."
She laughed then said, "For who an elf? If there is one thing Alpha Sloan is adamant about it is his health and if he ever sees you eating something like this he will have my head."
"I know you have to follow his orders and I appreciate the offer but I can make my own decisions about what I put in my body and I will deal with him if he says otherwise." I laughed as I grabbed another honey bun from the pantry and turned around with a victorious smile.
Just as I was about to take a bite of the new one it was ripped from my hands again, only this time it was by a huge Alpha.
"What's that?" He smirked as he held the bun high above his head.
I jumped for it a few times getting more angry as he stood their like a skyscraper towering over me with my favorite food in his hands. I pouted and sat down on the stool looking over at Naomi who was whisking some eggs together, pretending to be oblivious to our little encounter.
"Naomi, make sure you get rid of the rest of these and see to it that Red gets a healthy meal every morning while she is here."
He crushed the roll in his hands and threw it into the trash then went to the sink and washed the sugary goop off of them. After they were dried he came sit next to me and opened the newspaper that was rolled up tightly in front of him.
We sat quietly as she prepared breakfast but the only thing I wanted to do was go for a run. I crinkled my nose when she sat a plate of yellow blobs with red chunks and some green leafy stuff in front of us. I picked up the fork and poked at the rolled up mixture before taking a small piece and bringing it to my mouth. The smell was divine but I wasn't sure about the flavor so I placed it back down and pushed it away from me.
I saw the look of disappointment in Naomi's eyes and I felt like a total bitch for making it look like I was dissing her food so I said "I'm sure it is really good but I don't really eat breakfast. So, if you two will excuse me I need to go for a run."
Bishop grabbed my hand and said "You're not going anywhere until you eat something. If there is one thing I will not tolerate it is skipping meals. Being in tip top shape, not just on the outside is important and if you don't fuel your body with healthy options you will do no one any good."
Naomi chuckled as she placed a basket of yummy looking muffins on the table along with sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits and gravy. My mouth started watering and I immediately grabbed the platter and pulled it in front of me.
"Now this is a feast." I said grabbing the fork and digging in.
He closed his eyes and shook his head as I stuffed my face with three pieces of bacon and a spoonful of grits. "What?" I mumbled with a full mouth while I dipped my biscuit in the gravy and shoved it into my mouth.
He picked up a napkin and wiped my lip then slid the plate away from me replacing it with the first one along with some fruit and a glass of milk.
"A small, well balanced breakfast, in moderation, is what I was suggesting."
I growled in response at the loss of my meaty plate and whined when it was exchanged with a healthier option. I folded my arms across my chest and said, "Why would I want to eat healthily when I was born to eat meat? I'm a wolf, remember, we are carnivores."
"Finish your breakfast and meet me in my office in 10 minutes." He said as he stood and placed his plate in the dishwasher then walked off towards the hall.
This was going to be a fun day but I wasn't going to let him think he could command me like he's could his staff.
He stayed with her through the night. Could this be the start of something new? Could Bishop really be letting his walls down and trying to forget about the past?
Their interactions are priceless. He is so different from what I thought he would be and the fact that he is truly concerned for her, even if it was just about what she eats. He really is falling for her.
I wonder what his next lesson for her will be about?
