Chapter The Black Claw Pack
We stopped just before the large stone driveway and I watched as his shoulders rose and fell with his ragged breaths. His ears twitched when a brown haired man walked out the door with clothes in his hands. I heard the familiar cracking of bones and soon Bishop was standing next to me as the man handed him some shorts and a shirt. He got dressed then took the towel and walked in front of me urging me to shift. Once I was back in my human body, I took the towel and wrapped it around myself and followed the men inside.
The foyer had cathedral ceilings with a beautiful mural of nature expanding from one side to the other. The walls were a silvery grey and the floor was white and grey marble. We continued walking in further when we reached a door with the words Alpha Sloan etched on it. Bishop opened the door, walked in and around the desk, sitting in the large leather chair behind it and folded his hands in front of him.
The man from earlier sat down on the window seat as they both stared at me until I took a seat in one of the upholstered chairs across from Bishop.
"Ember, this is Deacon, my Beta. Deacon, this is Ember, my mate."
We looked at each other with surprise when he turned his head back toward Bishop and said "Your what?"
I could feel my cheeks blush as he tried to make sense of what he said while I sat there feeling completely out of place.
"Deacon I'll explain later but I would like some time alone with Ember." He said as he stared at me.
Deacon stood up and walked out the door letting it close quietly behind him. I pulled the towel tighter around my body and waited for him to speak. We sat there in silence for a while as he tried to think of a way to tell me about one of the most painful experiences of his life.
"Three years ago an intruder crossed my borders and was placed in our cellar as a prisoner. Deacon, and my gamma along with myself and my Shaman went to the cellar to figure out what to do with them when I saw her and immediately felt the bond, but my wolf was hesitant." He took a deep breath then continued talking. "The problem was she was a vampire and he sensed it before I did."
My eyes were about to pop out of my head when he got up and walked over to the chair next to mine.
"She was hungry and disoriented so I made my pack doctor take her to the infirmary and nurse her back to health. After a few days she was feeling much better and was moved into the pack house. We spent the next week getting to know each other then one night, she snuck out and I followed her only to see her in the arms of another man. I was crushed and returned back to the pack house and waited for her. I approached her as soon as she came through the door and she lied to me, telling me that the man she was with wanted her to be his mate and threatened her.
For weeks she stayed by my side, helped me with all my duties and even took an interest in her future duties until one night our pack was attacked. They weren't successful at their attempt and after the fight was over, Sandra disappeared."
My blood began to boil because I knew what he was about to say and I couldn't understand how someone could trick someone they were supposed to love.
"That's what you meant when you said she betrayed and tricked you."
He nodded his head and looked out the window for a moment before he began speaking again. “The Alpha from the other pack was her lover and he made her come here to try and seduce me, little did he know she was actually my mate. When he found out he used it to his advantage thinking that I would have been weakened by our bond and he could take over my pack more easily. When their true intentions were made clear I rejected her and severed our bond. Of course it didn't affect that heartless bitch in the least and she left with him while I was here in so much pain that I had to leave the pack. I never gave up my position as Alpha and I come back once a month to make sure my members were safe but I couldn't let them be punished because of my decision."
The pain he was going through was palpable and it was causing my heart to rip just seeing it in his eyes. I reached out and ran my hand down his cheek and said "I would never betray you Bishop, you have to believe that."
He grabbed my hand and held it between both of his and said "I know you wouldn't Red but I'm not sure I can give you what you need if I can't fully love you like I should. I just don’t trust anyone anymore."
Tears started streaming down my face and I felt the anger rising from my throat. "It's because you won't try. I have done nothing but put my heart on the line just for you to stomp on it time and time again but at least I keep trying."
I ripped my hand from his and jumped up, heading towards the door. Once I reached the knob I felt him grab me around my waist and push me against the wall, his lips smashed against mine and his hands reached inside the towel and along my shaking skin.
"Red I said I would try but you have to let it be in my own time and in my terms."
I shook my head slowly still reeling from our kiss and not quite sure what just happened when his fingertips brushed underneath my breast causing goosebumps to form all over my body. His warm breath fanned across my chest as he came insanely close to my marking spot.
"B-bishop..." I whispered as he inhaled deeply in the crook of my neck. "I..."
A knock on his office door interrupted me just when I was about to tell him about Anderson and his threat and he hesitantly pushed away from me with an annoyed look. I stepped to the side and let him open the door, letting Deacon back in.
"What is it Deacon?"
"Bishop, some of your members are asking to have a meeting with you."
"Did they say what it was about?" He said in a slightly worried tone.
"No but I have a feeling it's about the woman you brought with you and to discuss the future of this pack."
I looked between the both of them and said "Bishop, I think I should go. This is something you need to take care of by yourself."
I rushed past them both and ran around until I found a door leading to the back of the house. I slipped out into the woods and instantly regretted leaving without asking him how to get back to Chase's pack when an older woman with long grey hair and a slender frame came out from a little shack situated right behind the pack house.
We locked eyes as she started walking towards me and I couldn't believe it. I studied her featured and although she had grown older, she hadn’t changed all that much. I stepped closer to her and said "Grannie Lily?"
Poor Bishop, his first mate was a frickin vampire! Who in the hell saw that coming??
But I am really glad he finally told Ember and that he took her back to his pack to explain it. But do you think he will ever return for good?
OMGOSH, she is going to be reunited with Grannie Lily!
