Chapter Blast From The Past
"Ember? I-Is that really you?" She said as she walked up to me and placed her hand on my cheek.
"Yes." I said as I started to cry.
She grabbed me and pulled me into a hug and I instantly softened into her touch. She hadn't aged a bit, sure her hair had greyed but she didn't have a single line on her face, in fact she looked a few years younger.
She pulled back and said "I can't believe it's you. What are you doing here? How did you get here?"
I wiped my eyes then wondered where I would even begin to tell her everything that had happened to me when she grabbed my hand and led me into the shack. She motioned for me to sit on the couch while she grabbed a shirt and some pants for me to change into then went into the kitchen to make some tea. I walked around the quant little room studying the pictures on the wall when I saw one of her and I. It was the last one we had taken together before she disappeared and I thought back to the day I realized she was gone.
It was a rainy day and I had just finished my schoolwork. She had promised she would tell me a story and I rushed out the door to her house only to see the entire place empty and no sign of her. I ran back to the pack house and found my mom, asking her if she knew where she went but my mom just kept saying she didn't know. She always left it at that and changed the subject until one day I quit asking.
"That is my favorite picture of us."
I turned around and saw pure love radiating off her face as she handed me a mug of tea.
"Mine too." I said as I grabbed the cup and turned around to sit on the couch.
"I'm sure you have a lot of questions for me."
I nodded as she continued talking. I had a million to be exact but I was suddenly afraid of what she was about to tell me.
"I know you probably suspected that I wasn't a normal person and you were correct, I am a Seer and when some of the pack members found out they raised concerns that I was doing more harm than good. They had recently come under attack and didn't think I was protecting them like I swore I would so your mother asked me to leave."
"What do you mean my mother asked you to leave?" I was beginning to grow annoyed with her since this was the second time she kept me away from someone who loved me.
"She felt I would be better off at a pack where someone would appreciate me instead of where the members were scared of me."
"But how did you get here?"
"I rushed off in the middle of the night and somehow ended up here. I was weak and tired and was on someone else's property but I couldn't go any further. Alpha Sloan found me and took me in. Every since then I have been his Shaman."
I smiled at the thought of my disgruntled mate being such a softie when she asked me again what I was doing here.
"I don't know where to start." I blew out a breath and said "Another Alpha approached me and asked me to be his chosen mate and Luna and he would run my father's pack for me. I said no but my father thought it was a good idea so I ran away here to Chase's pack. But while I was here, I met my mate."
She smiled so brightly and said "Oh Ember, I'm so happy for you! Who is he?"
I blushed as her question and said "Alpha Sloan."
She gasped and said "Are you sure?"
"Yes. I know I wasn't his first mate but being given a second chance at finding true love should have made him happy. Instead, he told me I had to prove to him that I was worthy of him. I mean I have no problem being alone for the rest of my life, especially if any other man would have asked that but he is my mate and I would do anything to show him we were meant for each other."
I felt tears threatening to fall again when she said "Oh dear, Em, he really is a wonderful man but his past keeps him from moving on like he should."
"I know, he told me the story but I still don't understand how he was even given a second chance if he rejected his first mate. I mean don't they usually go mad or die from the broken heart?" I asked her.
She took a sip of her tea and said "Sometimes the moon goddess pairs people together for specific reasons, not just for love. She sets the wheels in motion but even though their fate is predetermined it doesn't always mean they will follow the right path. His first mate was dealt a horrible blow when she was born without a wolf and the horrendous choices that she made after she became of age defined her future and she was put in a position that she couldn't get herself out of which unfortunately made her who she is today."
"But how could she not feel the bond, even if she wasn't a wolf. And why would she not want to be with who the moon goddess designed specifically for her?"
"Some people aren't as open to the idea of being given a chosen mate that they are expected to love and be faithful to for the rest of their lives and maybe since she wasn't born with her wolf she didn't fully understand the importance of having one. Whatever her reason's were for denying him isn't for you to figure out it is for her to answer to on the day of her judgement. You just have to strive to be the best mate you know you can be."
I smiled as I shook my head agreeing with her. She was always so wise and could make any situation better by just talking to her.
"Grannie Lily, can you not tell Bishop about what happened at my pack? I want to be the one to explain it to him."
"Of course I won't say anything, although, I suggest you tell him before he finds out another way."
"I will, I promise."
We talked for a few more hours until it was time for me to go back to Chase's. As soon as I walked out her door I was hit with the strong scent of my mate's delicious smell and my knees buckled. I don't think I will ever get used to being knocked off my feet at the smell of a man.
"There you are Red." He said as he stood before me in just a pair of loose fit sweat pants that hung oh so dangerously off his sharp hips.
I instantly melted and I knew, in that exact moment, that he had me hooked no matter how hard he tried to push me away.
Grannie Lily!!!!!!! Oh I am so glad she found her again. My heart is so full.
Ok I seriously wish I could punch her mom in the throat for being such a cunt. Why is she making everyone who ever made Ember happy, leave from her life?
I really hope Bishop starts to warm up to the idea of his second chance mate. He needs to start acting like a real man.
