The Big Bad Wolf Mate

Chapter Day One

The next morning I arrived at the same spot I met Bishop in last night. The sun was just breaking over the horizon and a thick frost had taken over the forest floor, so I was grateful for the jacket I was wearing due to the chilly air.

My arms began to tingle and I knew he was close by just from the sudden change around me. I closed my eyes and turned my body until the sensations were at their highest. I opened them to see him standing across the field in a pair of jeans and a tight fitted grey shirt. His hair was swept into a high bun and he looked more like a Greek god than an Alpha but his presence surely exuded power.

"Are you just going to stare all day or can we get started?" sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

I folded my arms over my chest and said, "Who said I was staring?"

"Red you can't hide anything from me, that's lesson one."

He started walking towards me with a smirk and I knew this wouldn't be the last thing he was right about but I would never tell him that.

"So what are we learning today, oh mighty one." I said as I bowed.

"The first thing I was taught was how to keep my borders safe. They are the most important part of your territory and if you don't keep them secure you are putting your pack at risk. You also have to assure your guards are at their best in order to protect them and you."

"I think I have that in the bag." I said as I blew on my nails before brushing them along my shirt then placing my hands on my hips. "What's next?"

He looked at me and said, "Never be too confident about your borders, for all you know, an intruder could be crossing them right now and you wouldn't know it."

"What do you mean? Don't the guards patrol the entire length of the land every hour, day and night?"

"Yes but there is always potential for error and if you don't cover your gaps, there will be an attempt to break through."

"So how do you cover the gaps?"

"Traps."

"Seriously? You set booby traps for intruders?" I burst out laughing as he stood their staring at me with a blank expression.

"No smart ass, I mean we make certain paths that look enticing and easy to penetrate but in retrospect they will never be able to pass through."

"So you make a funnel of sorts. Interesting."

He raised his eyebrows and cocked his head as if to say I told you so. I rolled my eyes at his macho response and continued to listen to the rest of his lecture.

"Now that you know one of my many protection tactics, we can take a tour of the border and you can tell me if you can spot the vulnerable areas."

He started walking towards a rocky cliff and I instantly regretted wearing my rain boots, no doubt we would be climbing some tough terrain and hiking boots would have been the better choice.

"Is there a, uh, less dangerous way to get down this mountain."

He turned around and looked at my feet then shook his head. "Get on my back."

"Won't that make it a little harder for you to get down, potentially putting us in more danger?"

He smiled as he walked over to me and said "I wouldn't have offered if I didn't think it was safe." Then he leaned down and picked me up throwing me over his shoulder and turned towards the drop off.

I screamed out as he started descending the steep ridge and sunk my nails into his sides holding on for dear life. I felt him tense as my grip tightened but he never muttered a word and before I knew it we were on flat land again.

He slid me down his chest and held me steady as I gained my balance on the ground.

"Thank you." I said as I straightened out my t-shirt and tried to look anywhere but his eyes.

"The North border is this way, follow me and I promise there is no more rocky terrain."

I walked behind him, watching as his back muscles tightened and relaxed under his shirt. My palms were getting sweaty and my mouth went dry as I imagined him on top of me or his big arms holding my tiny waist as he pressed me against a tree and slid his...

"Everything ok Red?"

I looked up just in time to run smack into his chest.

“Yep. All good!” I said as I walked past him and towards the boundary line.

I heard him laugh behind me then felt his arm brush up against mine when he stepped up besides me.

“This area has still remained my most impenetrable.”

“Do you have a lot of guards here?”

“No.” He said as he stopped just before a cliff. “This is why.”

I looked down at the two hundred foot drop below me and became dizzy. I stepped back taking a deep breath as I realized this was the exact cliff from my dreams a few weeks ago. I looked at him as his face turned to worry.

“Are you afraid of heights?”

I looked at him in confusion before saying “What?”

He pointed towards the rocky edge and finally my brain could comprehend what he was saying.

“Oh! No it’s just a bit of deja vu. No big deal let’s go.”

Rushing past him I headed back towards where we had just come from when I felt his hand on my arm stopping me in my tracks.

“I know you aren’t that eager to walk the territory so why don’t you tell me what this is really about.”

“It’s nothing Bishop. Can we continue the lesson?”

“I’ll let it go for now but if you want to be a good Alpha then you’re going to have to learn to tell people what’s going on.”

“Are you speaking from experience?” I asked sarcastically.

He looked at me and narrowed his eyes before saying “This isn’t about me. You wanted me to help you and that’s what I’m doing. So there will be no Dr. Phil sessions or reverse psychology going on. Got it.”

His Alpha tone came through and I knew I better let it go before he used his command.

We walked the entire length of the North edge then stopped for him to talk with the guard on patrol who explained to me what his duties were and how he was able to keep this whole territory secured by himself.

“Thanks Myles. Make sure to tell Terrence about that fallen tree when he comes for shift change then the two of you get rid of it.”

“Yes, Alpha!” He said before running back off into his secluded area.

“Most of my patrollers have been military trained and are mandated to do a yearly refresher course at the base two cities away.”

“Isn’t that human land?”

“Yes but the general is a trust worthy ally and we keep them safe in exchange for training.”

My father would never have given a human the chance to help us no matter what the exchange was and here Bishop was letting them train his wolves. What could they possibly know that we don’t?”

“Why...”

“There are many things the humans can teach us. For one, we always know their moves before they make them. Number two, they have access to a lot more than we do and we need their trust in order for them not to tell others we exist. This particular general just so happens to be mated to one of the pack members here.”

I couldn’t fathom a human and a wolf being mates let alone them being allowed to stay together. My pack would have a fit if that happened but that’s the difference of being under protection and being an independent group. You make your own rules verses someone making them for you which was something I planned on changing once I took over.

I’m so glad he agreed to help her be a strong leader. Now can she keep her smart ass comments to herself long enough for them to get along or will her mouth get her in trouble again???

I don’t think she will be able to resist him much longer is they keep spending all this time together!!!

This is starting to get interesting. I wonder what he will teach her next.
