Chapter Bishop's POV
Three years ago
We had just finished our training lessons with the new recruits when I saw Deacon running towards the field. His arm was bandaged and he had a nasty scratch along his left cheek, no doubt from some horrible joke or pick up line he used on some unsuspecting she-wolf. He was my best friend and an excellent Beta but his game was off.
"What the hell happened to you?" Sherman asked as he burst out laughing at his defeated appearance.
"Fuck off Sherman. Bishop, we have a situation. I caught an intruder along the West side." He looked down in shame that he let someone cross my border alive.
I furrowed my brows and said "What do you mean you caught? Why is he still alive?" My Alpha blood had begun to boil at the thought that my men didn't do their job of protecting our pack at the first site of some crummy prowler.
He stiffened when he heard my tone and I knew he was ashamed of what he just did but I wasn't expecting what he was about to say.
"Well, uh, Alpha that's because it's not a man. It's a woman and she's not a wolf. We have her locked in the cellar."
My body tensed at the thought of a human on our lands and I immediately made my way to the lower level of the bunk house. We didn't have a traditional torture chamber like other packs, ours was more of a hoarding cell one that we never used.
"Have you sent for the Shaman? We need to fix this mess before she is released and alerts everyone in the country that we exist."
"I did but it's not for that reason."
His words stopped me in my tracks. "And what reason would it be for? What are you not telling me Deacon?"
"When I found her, I thought she was injured and I was walking away to leave her to die but she jumped up and looked me in the eyes and I don't know I felt weird like she had cast a spell on me or something. I couldn't talk or move and that's when Jardon intervened and restrained her but not before she yanked my arm and dislocated my wrist then scratched my face. She was like a frickin cat, climbing up my body until Jardon pulled her off and sat on her while Case tied her up. They had to drag her to the cellar before she did any more damage."
I internally laughed at the sight of him getting his ass handed to him by some tiny little human. Obviously she had done some martial arts training to be able to get that many licks in on a wolf but if she was possessed like he said that would explain how she was able to do it so easily.
We continued walking when my Shaman walked in front of me blocking me from entering the cellar. "Alpha, let me go first. I sensed something dark around the area when I was walking in and I don't want you getting hurt."
Lele had been my Shaman for the last 10 years, ever since I found her living in the woods in an abandoned shack, malnurished and weak. I usually kill anyone who dares to cross my border without permission but when I came upon her I could feel her power fizzling inside. She was weak but she still had enough to emit, warning me of what she was. She was a seer and from what I could tell she was a very important one. After she was better, she requested to stay with my pack to repay me for letting her live and nursing her back to health.
She walked to the entrance but stopped just before she walked in and said "There is something evil here. I feel the blackness that is within it's heart, beating but empty."
She closed her eyes and chanted some foreign words while moving her hands in the air similar to one of her ritual dances. She never did this unless something was array and if I didn't know any better I was betting the woman down there wasn't just human but something worse. She stopped moving and slowly walked towards the steps while clutching her crystal amulet hanging around her neck.
Deacon, Jardon and I just stared at each other with uneasiness as she descended the stairs. Once we all reached the bottom, she moved towards the back of the cellar where the prisoner was being held and stopped just before the door when her amulet began to glow and the soft purple light illuminated the dark hall.
The light must have awoken the beast inside because she instantly started hissing and blabbering incoherently the closer LeLe got to the door. Suddenly a light breeze blew and my entire body began to tingle and the overwhelming feeling of protection hit me like a ton of bricks. I pushed LeLe aside and pulled the door open with so much force that it came off the hinges and fell to the floor with a loud bang.
My eyes took in the beautiful blonde haired woman before me and I rushed to her tense body without a care in the world. Her big blue eyes widened when I touched her hand and the sparks that flew between us was exhilarating. She melted into me and I held her tight while everyone else stood there with their jaws touching the floor. I looked her over and could tell that she was weak and frail but the over whelming fear from my wolf had me on edge and I was instantly confused as to why he wasn't as excited as I was that we had just found our mate.
Present time
I shook my head at the memory of our first meeting and all the anger I had kept bottled up came out in a loud, hair-raising howl that echoed from the mountain cliff I had been standing on. The hate I had in my heart for that vile creature had invaded me and still hadn't dissipated. It was the reason I vowed to remain alone. It was the reason I left my pack and ran away to avoid them being punished by the goddess herself because of my decision to reject my destined mate. It was the reason I was prepared to live the rest of my life in pain and sorrow. That was until I met Ember and the light in my life ignited again. But did I deserve this second chance, especially after everything I had done in the past?
So now we know who his first mate was, but what happened?
Bishop really needs to tell Ember about her. I mean come on, who doesn't have a crazy ex or a sad back story?
Wait, did he just say Ember made him whole again? Do you think it's enough to make him accept her?
