The Alphas Wonder Land Phoenix Mountain Book 9

Chapter 26

DAMICA

“He's late.” I pace back and forth.

“He’s fine, Dami. That boy of yours. He’s smart. He’ll get them. Never seen anyone like him. He’s willing to die for anyone. That’s rare. I never thought I would like the guy that gets you, but this man. You hang on to him tight, you hear me?” Rex smiles as he points a finger in my face. Always the father figure.

“Yes, dad.” I smile.

“That’s my girl.” He grabs my head and kisses my forehead.

I look at the mirror in the abandoned department store of Phoenix City.

Apparently, years ago this city was bustling with red wolves until Falcon attacked with its armies. They destroyed everything. Took who they wanted and killed the rest. If Rex has never seen Sawyer before, I can only assume he was among the dead.

Now the city remains in a state of post apocalyptic decay. It’s mountain tomb encasing it.

We’re waiting for Sawyer to get back from informing our side of the situation here.

He’s two hours late and I’m worried that Phoenix has changed their minds about helping us.

“Open the mirror, I’m going to find him.” I stride to the mirror.

“Just wait.” Rex holds his finger up.

“Rex, open the mirror…” I demand.

Just then a knock came from the glass.

Rex slips his hand into it and Sawyer walks in. “There’s more.” He looks behind him.

Owen, Brody, Peter, Darcy, Graham, Mateo, Ash, Zane and Hunter walk through.

“What are you guys doing here?” I smile.

Sawyer eyes Rex. “There’s two more. Don’t freak out.”

The glass ripples and Jake walks through. He looks around and adjusts his pack. He looks at me. “Hey, Damica.”

“Jake.”

A low growl came from Rex.

Sawyer steps in front of him. “It’s not him. Don’t…freak…out.”

The next made my heart jump in my throat.

His black military boot stepped through the glass and he’s wearing the Alliance uniform. His face so much like the monster that runs this side.

Rex really got his back up. His eyes glowed gold. “No.” He ticked his head as he snarled.

Sawyer grabbed his shirt collar. “You want our fucking help, you’ll calm the fuck down now.” He snarls right back to Rex.

Rex flicks his eyes between him and Zander.

Zander walks up to him. “Sawyer told me. I realize how hard this is, but I’m only like that guy when my friends are in trouble. Are you a friend?” Zander exuded his royal persona and eyed Rex.

“That depends on you, doesn’t it.” Rex grits.

Zander nods. “True enough. Give me an ounce of trust and let me earn your respect.” He extends his hand out to him.

Rex looks at it and back up to Zanders deep, blue eyes. He presses his lips together and takes his hand. They shake.

Zander takes his hand back and joins Rex’s side with Jake. “Ok. Tell me what’s going on.” The three men walk ahead and talk as the rest of us follow behind to the warehouse we’ve set up in.

It’s weird seeing Rex standing beside Zander. If the situation wasn’t as bad as it was, I would appreciate that Rex seems to fit in with them. Like he’s been with him for years. I even felt good that he laughed a bit with Jake as we walked down the street. Like he rekindling an old friendship or maybe enjoying the friendship he should have had.

What scares me is both these men are the same men as they are here, but both made different decisions.

I’m sure Zander of the mirror world would have been this Zander had he not said yes to Eternity.

Jake only realized what laid inside him. Once that power was felt, it only took Zander to tip the scales. He made the decision to become evil in the mirror land. It only takes one fleeting moment for this Jake to do the same.

Sawyer walked beside me. He adjusted my pack. “We're fixing this, Dami. Falcon has been riding high for a long time now. Phoenix will kick their asses and set them straight.” I grin.

We catch up to Rex, Zander and Jake.

“I sent word to Draco. I don’t know if he’ll show, but if he does, he has 5000 in his pack. The Dragons are good fighters.” Rex says.

“Whoa! Excuse me? Are you insane?” Jake says with shock.

Sawyer grabs his shoulder. “Remember things are opposite here. Draco’s an ally.”

“Really?” Zander arches a brow.

Rex nods. “When he wants to be. The Dragons are pacifists. They avoid conflict whenever they can. They’d much rather go into hiding than fight. I sent two of my best negotiators. I hope they can convince them join us against the largest army in the northern hemisphere.”

Hunter shakes his head as he comes up beside me. “This is so weird. These are our friends man.”

Zander looks over his shoulder. “They may look like our friends, but they aren’t them. We can’t let that get in the way when dealing justice. As far as I’m concerned, the Falcons are the Dragons of this land and we must stop them.”

I lace my fingers in Sawyers hand as we get close to the warehouse by the dome.

The dome sat cracked like an egg and the pool was filled with metal and glass.

Brody stops. “Hold up.” He steps and looks around the area. “This is all supposed to be gone.”

Rex joins him at his side. “It was.”

“Pardon?” Brody looks at him with confusion.

Rex looks on. “It was all gone. There was nothing, but a giant ravine.”

“Ok. Where is it?” Brody asks while scratching his blonde hair.

Rex looks at him. He shrugs. “Don’t know. Over a year ago, that mountain range out there exploded out of the earth in a matter of minutes and the ravine was gone. What you see here is not what was here before.” His mouth ticks up.

Brody glances at him. “Are you shitting me?”

Rex looks him over. “No.”

Brody points out into the desert. “That mountain range exploded to bits with me in it and it just shows up here?”

“Welcome to the land of the dumbest dumbfuckery you’ll ever experience.” Rex claps his shoulder and walks back to Zander.

“My head hurts.” Brody says.

“That’s not hard, Bro. Your head hurts trying to figure out the Soul stone.” Sawyer smirks.

He scowls and turns to me. “She shouldn’t have died. He should’ve have been a man.” He growls.

“OK. Relax.” He slaps his shoulder and turns Brody back to the group.

“No, I won’t. It will forever piss me off. He should of known she'd jump. I would’ve known.” Brody points to his puffed out chest and shakes his head. He’s angry, flushed and almost looks like he’s about to cry. Sawyer wraps his arms around his shoulder and tries to calm him down.

I can’t help but giggle at the conversation. I feel close to these guys and I’ve only known them for a short time. I can see why they’re Sawyers friends. I just hope they always will be.

When we got to the warehouse, some of Rex’s men were in there. We kept Zander and Jake back while Rex explained who they were. Once the shock and anger settled down, we got to business.

Zander paces around the back of Rex while we all crowd around a table. We have maps and other things spread out to formulate a plan.

Rex’s eyes follow him from side to side. He has his arms crossed and a scowl on his face.

Zanders rubbing his chin. “Sawyer, how many do you think you took out?”

He shrugs. “I don’t know. A hundred. Maybe a bit more.”

“Which is nothing in an army of thousands.” Rex says.

“No, but if one wolf can do that much damage, odds are Falcon won’t stand a chance.” Zander stands next to Rex. “Who’s on their side?”

“We can’t know for sure, but the big players are Caledon, Black Rock, Axelridge and Atlas.”

Hunter leaned on the table. “Axelridge joined the alliance?”

Rex nods. “Yes and let me tell you, they’re more insane than the High Commander. Finn takes armed combat to next level.”

Hunter stands straight with a puzzled look. “I thought Canadians were nice.” He mumbles.

Zander eyes him. “Titus?”

Rex nods. “The bastards evil. Him and his sister are going to be hard to beat.”

Peter looks at him. “Ravens?”

Rex nods.

“Fuck.” Darcy mutters.

“The Atlas army isn’t huge. They’re slowly dying off. Zander has something on Titus that makes him comply.”

“The rock.” Zane supplies.

Rex arches a brow. “Rock?”

Zander lowers his head. “An artifact we found. It’s part of something called the Heart of Atlas. Without getting into it too much, it keeps Titus alive. My other self must be blackmailing him to fight.” Zander leans on the table. “We might be able to swing Titus the other way if we give him the rock.”

Sawyer nods. “Maybe. If not, you prepared to take your cousins off the board?”

“Blood doesn’t mean shit here, apparently. It’ll just be Zeta against Zeta. Well need some heavy iron weapons.” Zander says.

“There’s one more.” Rex says.

Zander looks at him. “Who?”

He looks to Jake. “Miracle.”

“Why do you all keep calling me Miracle?” Jake puts out his hands.

Rex leans on the table. “Tell me you don’t feel him slithering around in there.” He slams his hand on the table. “Tell me!” He was starting to get angry.

“Look man. I don’t know what your talking about. I’m an Omega. I’m no Zeta.” Jake scowls.

Zander puts his hand on Rex’s chest. “Ok. Jake is not Miracle. I don’t know what you think…”

Rex turns his head to Zander. “He’s not…yet.”

“Yet? What do you mean, yet?” Jake side eyes him.

Zander looks at Rex. “What do you know?”

Rex shakes his head and stands straight. “All I know is, when he does show up, all of you. Watch your fucking backs.” He growls.

The table looks at Jake. “Whoa…Guys, it’s me…I wouldn’t do…whatever he thinks I’ll do. You know me.”

“We think we know you.” Sawyer scowls at him.

“Listen…Sawyer…” Jake lifts a finger to him.

“Enough!” Zander says. “Let’s not start ripping ourselves apart Ok. This land and the people in it are different. Remember that.”

Sawyer and Jake exchange glances and turn back to Rex and Zander. I can tell there’s some animosity between them. I wonder what that’s all about.

Zander puts his hands behind his back. “Is Phoenix City clean?”

“Yes. We’re the only ones in it.” Rex confirms.

Zander spins on his heels. “We need six large mirrors. All lined against that wall. I’ll need transport secured and as much supplies you can gather from the security unit here. We'll bring what we have as well.” He walks to Rex. “Falcons armies may be big, but I can guarantee, what walks through that glass will make my counterpart shit his pants.” Zander smirks close to his face.

“You really think you can win this?” Rex says.

Zander nods. “Oh, I’ll win it and hand you Wonderland on a gold platter.” He ticks his head quick.

Sawyer leans on the table. “There’s one other thing. Eternity’s here. He has your power, Zan.”

“My power?” Zanders brows came together.

Sawyer nods. “You said yes and joined your dad. He sucked you dry, Zander. Your counterpart is a shell. He’s being kept alive by your dad.”

“Is this my dad or mirror dad.” Zander asks.

Sawyer shakes his head. “No. He can’t cross the worlds. The universe becomes unstable.”

“Well, that’s a bonus.” Zander grumbles. “So Eternity poses a threat?”

“I fought him and with the help of a friend, he blew up, but I’m sure he’ll show up at this fight. I’m only warning you because I have a feeling with you here, he’ll try to kill you and take your power too.” Sawyer warns.

“Alright. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen.” Zander folds his arms.

He looks to us all. “While we mobilize on our side, I need all of you set up your units. Gunners, combat, flyers, Comms. All of it. This is a war people. We aren’t leaving until this land is free from the Falcons.”

The Alphas nods and break away from the table. They start planning and talking with Rex’s men.

I turn to Sawyer. “I want to donate my venom.” I say to him.

Sawyer rubs my arms. “I won’t lie. It’ll be a great weapon, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. If it falls into the wrongs hands…”

“It won’t. I want to help.” I grab his hands.

He sighs. “Ok. I’ll see what we can come up with. I’ll bring my Ops team here and we'll figure out the best way to deliver it. In the meantime, you come with me and we’ll have Ricky milk your venom.”

I smile at him. “Sounds like a plan.”

He laughs and hangs an arm around my neck.

We join the others to prepare for the largest battle, I’ve ever seen. From what these people sound like, Rex’s Robin hood routine will be nothing compared to what these Alphas are preparing to do.

I can only pray that we win. Then the mirror world will be free from the tortures it has suffered for so long.
