Chapter 1 - Siofra's POV
This was my favorite part of the morning: the dew glistening on the grass, birds chirping in the air, and flowers and plants were blooming everywhere. Everything was peaceful.
The land of the faes is always beautiful. No other creature is able to come to the land of the fae. However, fairies are able to leave the land of the fae. Fairies take pride in the land and each fairy has a role. Every fairy helps one another.
Earth fairies keep the flowers, trees, and every plant life blooming and healthy. Most earth fairies tend to work more towards being florists, teachers, and architects.
Water fairies keep the water; such as lakes and rivers, in pristine condition. Most water fairies tend to work as nurses and doctors. Water helps heal fairies.
Fire fairies create fire. Fire can be useful when keeping warm or when cooking food. Most fire fairies tend to work as firemen or cooks.
Air fairies create air. They also make sure the air is clean. Most air fairies tend to work as musicians, librarians, or someone one delivers mail.
Every fairy can only control one element. Each royal family member is able to control more than one element.
No royal fairy has ever controlled all the elements. Except me. Not a single person knows that I can control all the elements. Not even my family.
There is so many reasons why I keep my powers a secret. The main reason for me to keep this information from my family is because of my brother. My brother will soon be king. I don't want faes to think my brother is weak because I have more powers than him.
Truth be told, with me having control over all the elements, I feel like I am meant for something greater.
After staring outside for a couple of minutes, I then decided to go get dressed before breakfast. Being the princess of the fairies, I always had to be well dressed. My wardrobe consisted of mainly dresses that were elegant and soft.
I ended up putting on a white lace dress. I also put on some white flats which accentuates the white lace dress I have on.
I then went to my bathroom and put on makeup. I made sure that I only put on enough makeup to look delicate and soft but to mainly bring out my eye color. Once I finished getting ready I headed downstairs.
As I entered the dining room, I noticed my mother and father were discussing something important, yet they didn’t notice when I walked in till I sat down.
Their conversation stopped.
“Good morning sweetie, you look lovely today,” mom said.
Before I can even speak a word, my brother walks in the room.
My brother seems different this morning. Like our father, he usually doesn't talk during breakfast. They are not a morning person.
“Mom… Dad!” Surgon says excitedly.
Surgon looks like he just took a cookie from a cookie jar. He seems euphoric this morning.
“I have been up all night thinking about Jillianna. I know this may be to soon to ask either one of you, but I can't imagine my life without her. I want to ask your permission to take Jillianna’s hand in marriage.” Mother and father looked at each other smiling and I knew exactly what they were thinking.
“Son, you don’t need our permission to take her hand in marriage. As future king, you can make some choices on your own. However, it is wise to ask her parents for her hand in marriage,” father said while chuckling.
Surgon started to blush.
Mother looked at Surgon before speaking. “Surgon, she is a very sweet girl. We will bless the marriage.” Before we started to eat, Surgon let out a soft grin. He knew his world will be perfect with Jillianna by his side.
As we were eating, thoughts were racing through my head.
‘Marriage.’
One day I will find the love of my life. But who and where is the question I want to ask but have no answer.
I felt a change going inside me. A feeling that I was destined to be with someone who is not a fairy like me. Someone who I will love passionately every single night. My body is yearning for him. The question I couldn’t find an answer to at the moment is, who am I meant to be with?
Once we were finished eating, mother and father asked Surgon if he can leave the room as they both had something they needed to discuss with me. I was curious as to what they both have to say to me. My father ushers a maid to quickly come in the room. In her hands she hold a red envelope. She places the envelope in front of me.
The envelope had beautiful gold writing with my name eloquently written on it with beautiful designs.
“What is this about?” I raised an eyebrow questioning. I then proceeded to open the envelope. “What you have in your hand is an invitation to the Lockwood ball. Every year they host a grand ball where every unmated creature comes together near and far. Since you just become of age a couple of months ago, you have been invited to attend this years ball. If you chose to go, you have a chance to meet your true love there. However, most fairies don’t attend the ball as they like to reserve themselves for other fairies,” my father said.
Taking the time to think about what he just said, my mother spoke next. “Sweetheart, the choice is up to you. We do need an answer soon since you will be the only fairy representing our kingdom. Preparations must be made if you decide to go.”
I don't know much about this ball. I do know that only a couple of fairies went to this ball in the past and they did not find someone that was destined for them while there.
I looked at the envelope one more time. Something was drawing me towards going to this ball. A feeling where I knew that my true love will be there.
I looked at my mother first and then I looked at my father. I knew the answer and I believe they know what I will say next too. The next words I said will change the rest of my life. Without hesitation I said, “I will go to the ball.”
