Syble (Magnolia)

I make my way back to the pack house to start getting ready for the party. Accalia has given me a lot to think about and I’d like to get back in control of my mind and body before I’m faced in front of the twins again. I’m walking through the main hall when someone grabs me by the arm, pulls me into the twins’ office, and pins up against the wall.

When I finally look up, Ro’s forested eyes are drinking me in, his hunger palpable. He stands mere inches away from me, both hands on either side of my head. He leans in, burying his nose in my neck and hair.

“Where have you been?” He asks, his voice a pained whisper.

“In the gardens,” I answer honestly, my body buzzing from his proximity. “I flew back here and ended up in the gardens talking to your mom.”

He sighs, drops his hands to my waist, and pulls me to him.

Wrapped in his arms I feel guilty for leaving them so suddenly at the lake. The desire I felt for him then comes roaring back and I wrap my arms around his neck, running a hand through his hair. He holds me to him with only a breath of space between our lips. I swear I can feel the air around us getting warmer the longer we stand here, tethered together by some invisible, inescapable force.

His hands leisurely begin to massage my hips and explore across my back before settling again on my waist. Inky blackness slowly diffuses across his eyes, unhurriedly overtaking his entire iris. If I linger too long in his gaze the darkness of our unspoken desire will undoubtedly consume me.

A needy ache burrows deep in my belly and my skin is alight with heat. Each touch of his sends sparks ricocheting through my body and between my thighs. I blush furiously when he growls appreciatively at my undisciplined arousal. But it’s not just him my body yearns for.

“Where’s Varian?” I ask quietly whilst attempting to bring my body to heel. They’re hardly ever apart and I need to talk to him about what happened – to apologize for running. I just didn’t know what else to do at the time, my body was on fire, my thoughts were incoherent – like it is now and pretty much every time I get close to the twins.

“He’s upset with himself, went for a run when we couldn’t find you in the house.” He unwraps his arms from around me and cups my face in his hands. He presses his forehead to mine and sighs, breathing me in.

“You should go get ready, let’s just enjoy the party. We can talk afterwards or tomorrow.” He says softly.

I simply nod and slip out of their office to head up to my room and get ready.

I open my door and find Incandis and Kat lounging in the arm chairs. She’s talking animatedly and he’s watching her, listening, completely enraptured by what she has to say.

I clear my throat loudly. “What are the two of you doing in my room?”

Incandis’ head snaps to me and he blushes. He blushes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so embarrassed. Kat turns as white as my bed sheets and the way her knees practically give out upon standing makes me think she’s going to pass out at any second.

“Well I came to find you so we could get ready together and then Incandis came knocking looking for you so we’ve just been —“

“Talking… and now we’re done, so I’m going to go.” He says hastily.

Incandis hurries out of my room and across the hall into his without another glance.

What the fuck?

Kat puts up her hands defensively, like she’s afraid I might attack her. I know I’m not the most approachable person but I thought she knew me better than that.

“Syble, I swear we were just talking.”

“Kat I’m not mad I was just surprised you both were in here, that’s all.”

She lets out a long sigh of relief and smiles at me, the color returning to her face.

“How was the lake?” She asks, always eager for the latest gossip. She grabs two garment bags from my closet, presumably our dresses for the evening, and hands me one.

“It was good, warm. They showed me the mud pool and the falls.”

I walk into the bathroom and strip down not bothering to close the door, it wouldn’t stop Kat anyway. She follows me into the bathroom, hopping onto the counter as I step into the shower.

“I can’t help but notice you wore the new lingerie we bought yesterday. But it’s interesting, your bra isn’t here in the pile.” She teases, but I know what she’s asking.

“Is that a question you really want to know the answer to, Kat? Gods, they’re your brothers.” I chuckle at her from in the shower.

“My brothers rarely give any woman the time of day, so when they drag you off to the hot springs and you come home braless, then yeah, I kinda do want to know.”

I turn the shower off, heating my skin so the water evaporates off of me leaving me dry, and walk out into the bedroom.

“There’s not much to know, Kat. I mean, we went swimming.” I smile remembering how their jaws hit the water when I took my shirt off just like how Kat said they’d react.

I slip on a skimpy black t-back, another new purchase from yesterday, before slipping into my dress. It’s a floor length, fitted, backless, black dress with a slit all the way up to my left hip. It has thin straps and a neckline that plunges to a few inches above my navel. The only thing keeping my breasts from popping out are two black straps holding the dress together just under my bust. The whole dress is littered with crystals, giving it the appearance of the night sky. I adorn the dress with a single black arm cuff on my right arm.

“Do you like them?” She says quietly, all playfulness gone from her tone.

Do I like them? I still don’t know a whole lot about them. I know they’re fierce, brutal, feared, and respected. I know it drives them nuts that I don’t succumb to their alpha commands. I like their scent. I crave it. Breathing them in makes me inexplicably calmer. Their touch singes and electrifies me in the most delicious way. They’re the only men who won’t take shit from me, which is refreshing and infuriating in its own way. But most of all I’m afraid — afraid to give in, to fall for them, to be hurt by them. I remember Accalia’s advice from before, about recognizing that while I hold my people together, I need someone who will hold me together. Maybe I can trust them, maybe I should let them in.

I smile shyly at Kat, “I do like them, Kat, it’s just…complicated.”

Kat has gotten herself dressed in her red, off shoulder, floor length gown. The entire thing is lace with a nude underlay. Her normally straight, brown copper hair has been curled to perfection.

I apply a dark burgundy lipstick to my lips while she finishes her mascara. She turns to me and hands me a small, flat, rectangular box. I open the box to find a black, lace mask embroidered with black rhinestones but there’s a black fabric covering the space for the eyes.

“It’s a masquerade party,” Kat says, reading my expression. “I had them cover the eyes for you, it should work just like your blindfold.”

A wide smile breaks out across my face as I dart to the bathroom and try it on. Kat was right. The mask covers my eyes while allowing me to see through it, and it’s more subtle than the regular blindfold I wear.

I rush back out for her appraisal and she clasps her hands squealing with delight. Her mask is red lace with feathers on the sides, complimenting her dress perfectly.

Three loud knocks on the door startle us. “Ladies,” it’s Runidar, “the guys are waiting downstairs to escort you to the party. You have five minutes or they’re coming up to get you.”

Kat and I slip on our heels and make our way slowly downstairs. Kat goes ahead of me, wanting to be the first one down the stairs. I hear her parents gasping and cooing at the beautiful birthday girl as I round the corner of the curved staircase. When I finally come into view everyone stops speaking and stares at me, mouths agape.

I frown, looking down at my gown, feeling like perhaps I’m not dressed appropriately for this event.

Accalia is in a gorgeous long sleeved silver gown, and the men in full tuxedos. The twins look especially good, their brown copper hair tousled in a just fucked kind of way, their dress pants clinging snuggly to their thick, muscular thighs. Both wearing matching black masquerade masks.

Varian makes the first move, walking up to me with easy grace. He closes the distance between us in three eager strides, as if I’d slip through his fingers if he took any longer, his chocolate gaze never leaving mine. He takes my hand in his and brings it up to his lips, planting a light, but lingering kiss on the back of my hand.

He slides his other hand up to my cheek and then around to the back of my neck, pulling me flush against his body. His mouth is next to my ear as he whispers, “You look absolutely breathtaking.” My body warms at his compliment, his scent intoxicating me. His fingertips trail down my exposed back ending where there’s finally fabric. My desire follows his hands all the way down my spine, pooling low in my belly. Varian’s eyes darken and he groans. I clench my thighs together remembering what they admitted to me earlier about scenting my arousal.

Runidar clears his throat effectively breaking up our moment lost in our own world. My cheeks pink with mild embarrassment that their entire family and my brother are witnessing me eye fucking him like we’re the only people in the room.

“You girls look beautiful,” Accalia fawns over us.

Incandis bows to me at the neck and plants a kiss on my forehead. “You look lovely, ma—gical, Syble, truly magical.” He pulls his mouth back in a tight grimace knowing he almost fucked up, again, this time in front of their entire family.

Ro slides a possessive arm around my waist, and fuck if it didn’t just send a pulse of desire directly to my center. I’m not accustomed to men being this possessive, this dominant, and I’m surprised not only by how much I like it, but by how much it turns me on.

He gives me a lecherous grin, pulls me away from Incandis, and leads me with the rest of their family to the party.
