The Alpha's Rejected Mate

Chapter 16

“When do you think you guys will be coming back?” Liz asks as we embrace. It’s been a day since the whole fiasco where Liz cheated on Brent and everything has been a bit challenging. Brent isn’t taking it well and was going to leave when he realized Liz was. He can’t be near her at the moment even though she tries to apologize.

“I don’t know. Probably soon. There hasn’t been a rogue attack and if they haven’t attacked by now they probably won't be. We’ve taught the pack how to defend themselves and that’s pretty much all we can do at the moment.” I shrug.

“Kaiden said something about coming back next week for a break.” She’s smiling now. “Do you think Brent would have forgiven me by then?”

“I’m not sure, Liz. You really hurt him. He’s your mate and you basically rejected him.” I smile faintly. “And I won't be going back for the break. I’m going to spend some time with my brother and parents and don’t even think about coming back and going after my brother!” I add when I catch the look of lust that crosses her expression.

“I would never.” I smile as she blatantly lies.

“’Yeah, yeah. Just go.” I say smiling one more time as she hops in the car and drives away. Kaiden had already said his goodbyes towards her and Brent wasn’t coming out of my room in the cabin. He wouldn’t be sleeping in the room he shared with Liz anymore and he didn’t want to move into the pack house with the person who slept with his mate.

I sighed as I began walking back towards the packhouse. This was all really messed up. I mean sometimes things happen that I really wish didn’t. Sometimes I wonder if, had Cade’s mother not passed so early, would he have accepted me as a mate? Would we be together in more ways than one? I quickly dismissed the thought, there was no room for that now, I was getting married to a guy that was completely amazing. The guy I was in love with.

Yes, you love him, but is it in the way you should love someone you agreed to marry?

Yes, at least, I think so…

“Don’t scare me like that ever again, Scar. Do you know what it felt like, not being there to protect you from my best friend? I can't believe he did this to you.” Kaiden whispers as he lay next to me on the bed that used to be the one Liz and Brent shared.

“I’m okay. It wasn’t his fault. It wouldn’t have happened had Liz not slept with Cade.” I try to reassure them, but it doesn’t work, just makes him direct his anger towards someone else. Liz.

“How could she do that though! She’s your best friend and slept with your mate. That’s like going up to a prostitute and asking for a hug. You just don’t do it!” He drags a shaking hand through his ragged hair.

I laugh at his terrible example. “What she did is nothing like that! That was a stupid example.” I pause as he laughs along with me. “But back on the subject, no. She didn’t sleep with my mate. You’re my mate, and she better be glad it wasn’t you otherwise her vagina would not be working right now.” I smirk, knowing I’m only joking, about disabling Liz’s vagina that is.

“You truly believe that? That I’m your mate?”

“If Fate wanted Cade and me to be together, we would be. But against all odds, I’m still with you, and you’re still with me.” I trace a finger along his delicate lips and smile as they pout at my touch. “I love you, and I’m going to marry you. Tomorrow. A few days from now. A year… more? Whenever it happens.”

“And we’ll have a million and three kids.” He grins a huge grin that could light all of Times Square.

“Perhaps not that many, surely my vagina would be out of order after that.”

“Good thing I like you for your personality along with many other attributes then, yeah? And do you really not care when we get married?”

“I don’t mind when or if it ever happens. We don’t need a title telling us what we already know; that we are committed to each other, both emotionally and physically.”

“I love you, Scar.” He whispers against my lips as he moves above me. “And I’m about to show you just how much I love you right now.”

“I love you, too.” I giggle as he nibbles on my neck. “More than the stars.”

“More than the stars.”

“Is this becoming a ritual or something?” I say as I spot Cade in the kitchen of the cabin making breakfast once again.

“I thought you deserved it after what happened.” He tries to give me a small smile, but it doesn’t quite work. “How are you feeling?”

“Actually pretty good, ready for the day. Kaiden is still asleep. Surprisingly.”

“I'm making chocolate and banana pancakes, I couldn’t get any blueberries. Sorry.”

I shake my head and tell him its fine. I am really loving the change in Cade’s attitude lately. He’s become more like the old him that I knew and had fallen in love with. On the other hand, I’m not exactly sure if that's a good thing after all.

Rolling my eyes at myself I head to the cupboard and get two glasses out and the orange juice out the fridge. Making a noise and then raising the orange juice in a silent question I smile as he nods.

Once the pancakes are made and were eating in a comfortable silence I relax my posture and finally let the tension from sleep out, a sigh escaping my lips.

“That was an interesting sound. What’s wrong?” Cade asks, turning in his seat to face me.

“Nothing, I know this sounds weird, but I’m actually just really tired lately.” I sigh, again.

“God, you’re not pregnant are you?” He laughs and I immediately laugh with him.

“No definitely not.” I smile and watch as his eyebrows raise, curious. “Why is that surprising, Curious George?”

“I don’t know, I just thought, you two might be trying…” He drags the last word out.

“God no, I’m only what? Twenty. I’m too young.” I giggle, oh god, I giggle. In front of Cade. Kill me now.

“If you were mine you would have been pregnant with our third by now.” He smiles that disarming smile and I melt.

“She was yours and let me remind you that you were the one that also rejected her.” My head whips to the side to see Kaiden leaning against the doorjamb of the kitchen door.

With a cute but reserved smile towards a certain someone— cough, cough, Cade—he saunters over to me to place a long, lingering kiss on my sugary lips. Safe to say some ended up on his lips and I chuckled.

“Good morning, Kaiden.” I smile up at him, completely aware that Cade is still right there sitting next to me.

“It is, future Mrs Kaiden Williams.”

I repeat:

Kill. Me. Now.
