The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon (Raine & Amari)

The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 75

Chapter 75

AMARIS

“Amaris, they are right.” Raine lifted a weak hand to my face. She was exhausted, all her energy spent on my useless brother.

I was concerned for our pup but when I concentrated, I heard the rapid flutter of his heartbeat, and I silently thanked the Mood Goddess for it.

“You should let me go with them before I hurt anyone else. I would never forgive myself if I hurt you.” A single tear trickled down her cheek.

“No, no! My love, you couldn’t hurt me even if you tried.” I wouldn’t survive it if they took her from me. There had to be another way. “We have Joanna. She will help us.”

“I still feel it’s best we take her to the High Magus.” Joyce was adamant, damn

her.

“And I said NO!” Rage howled in my head to rip all to take her by force. “We will handle this.”

of them apart if they tried

The witch backed off. She didn’t look pleased, but I could care less. She toyed with the many crystals around her neck, a deep frown creasing her brow as she stared at Raine.

Tahlia Yinfir smirked at me, her hands on her narrow hips. “You have no idea what you’re dealing with, Your Majesty. Your kind are not equipped for matters like these.”

That might be true, but whatever this was, together we would get through it. Raine had closed her eyes and by her breathing, slow and steady, I knew she was asleep. I was relieved.

“Do not test me, Tahlia Yinfir. You are guests here in my castle.” My eyes fell on the dagger that stuck out from the belt around her waist and almost laughed. Did she think that toy could protect her from a werewolf?

I stroked Raine’s hair from her face. Why would the Moon Goddess pair me with a half–witch if she didn’t want me to change our traditions and

prejudices? I would use that as an argument in my decree.

The Elf shrugged her delicate shoulders. “You take offence so easily. I was merely remarking.” She walked away to help herself to a drink.

I stood up with my sleeping mate in my arms. She needed to rest, and I was done with this meeting. Elder Mattias followed me to the doors which Lord Greyson and Ross opened when I approached.

“See that our guests are fed and shown to their rooms to rest before they take their leave, Elder Mattias. Ross, I need to see you in my office.”

“Of course, Your Majesty.” Ross inclined his head. “Should I take the prince back to the dungeon?” Gathering by the glint in Ross‘ eyes, he would be more than happy to do so. There was no love lost between the two of them.

Before I had the chance to answer, I was interrupted by the arrogant Pendragon.

“But we are not done here, King Amaris.” The dragon shifter barred my way. “There is still the matter of the Vampire King’s claim. And what of your brother? Surely you are not going to go through with your fight before we have resolved all these matters before the council?”

“Yes, what about me?” Sorin quick to jump to an opportunity when it presented itself said, “Let me say this before all of you, you are my witnesses. If anything should happen to me or my mate, Amaris will be held

accountable. He is not to be trusted. I have reason to believe that he sabotaged my mate and I. We’ve lost several pups…”

“Hold your tongue! Or I will rip it from your poisonous mouth! I will not stand for your baseless accusations anymore, Sorin!” I shifted Raine to a more comfortable position against my shoulder. “Lord Greyson, escort the prince to his quarters and see that he stays there. With his pregnant mate.”

“As the king wishes.” Lord Greyson motioned for Sorin to exit the throne

room.

Sorin must have some death wish because he trotted behind me while I strode down the hallway, eager to get to my bedroom before Raine wakes up.

“This is long from over, Brother. You will lose her and your throne before you get to lay a hand on me.” He was so sure of himself.

We were out of earshot from the emissaries and the others. Only Lord Greyson and his guards were close enough to witness. I was tempted to snap his neck right there and bear the consequences. But I had my mate in my

at me like a little lapdog. arms, and she meant more to me than his yapping

“I would advise you to be quiet, Your Highness.” Lord Greyson laid a hand on Sorin’s arm.

“Take your filthy hand off me, Greyson! You forget your place.” Sorin snarled at the older man. Lord Greyson was not someone to insult. Being much stronger than Sorin he stood his ground. Not only was he my general at arms, but he was also of royal blood..

“Don’t make me regret my decision to not let your rot in the dungeon, Sorin! I promised Raine I would be merciful. For Helen and your pup’s sake. That is all.” I turned around to face him. “Accidents can still happen.”

Sorin scoffed, “You do that, Amaris. The council won’t be merciful.” Sorin shoved Lord Greyson’s hand off his arm. “They will decide your fate, no matter what.”

“I make my own fate. Now get out of my face.”

Raine was still out like a light when I laid her on our bed. She looked like an angel with her fair hair spread out on the pillow, sweet and innocent. I left her in Rhona’s care and hurried to the office where Ross waited.

“Amaris, I think it’s best if we lock Sorin up in the dungeon. I don’t trust him as far as I can spit.” Ross said as soon as I walked through the door.

He was the least of my troubles. “He doesn’t have the balls to try anything, Ross.”

“Why don’t you just banish him, Amaris? I know you don’t want to kill him. You’re still bound by the oath you swore to your father.”

Chapter 75

It was something I have considered over the years, but how could I banish him when I never had any concrete evidence to warrant it? “I have thought about it.” I sat down behind my desk with my forehead resting against my fists. I sighed. “I blame myself for Sorin’s hatred. I haven’t been a good brother to him. It’s true what he said. I bullied him.”

“To make him tougher.” Ross said, “I know.” He chuckled, handing me a goblet of wine. “Unfortunately it didn’t help much.”

I inhaled the spicy, berry aroma of the wine, swirling it around in my cup. “Yeah, that too, but I was jealous of him as well. He had my mother’s love whereas she despised me.” I never wanted to admit it to myself, but there it

was.

“You’re not boys anymore, Amaris.” Ross said, “You’re the king and Sorin is going out of his way to poison everyone against you. It’s you or him.” He lifted his goblet to salute me.

But getting rid of Sorin wouldn’t be enough to keep Raine.
