The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 74
Chapter 74
“Yes, you heard me correctly.” Amaris told Sorin who stared at him open- mouthed. He was as shocked as I was, as the rest of the elders were. They were milling about, uncertain of what to do, to intervene or not.
“You want me to fight you?” Sorin’s voice sounded hoarse as if he’d swallowed ́a handful of dirt. “Why now?” His boots squealed on the marble floor as he retreated from Amaris who kept on advancing.
“You wanted to be treated as my equal, don’t you? I’m giving you that chance, Sorin.” Amaris flicked something off Sorin’s jacket. He was right up against
him.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the violence to erupt, barely breathing. That strange pulse slowly beginning to build in the pit
of my stomach. I had to fight to push it down. Not now. Not now. Who knows what would happen.
Pendragon and the women stood aside, clearly distancing themselves from the king and his brother. But they were observing the exchange attentively. Joyce Rowe, however, was focused on me. She tried to be discreet about it, but still I felt it. Maybe she was drawn to the power I felt coursing through my blood, like an itch that begged to be scratched, it wanted out.
A forceful knock at the doors broke the tension and heads turned towards the sound. Elder Mattias rushed to open the doors to admit Ross and Lord Greyson. I noticed a handful of guards waiting in the hallway before the doors closed. Amaris nodded briefly in their direction to acknowledge their
presence.
“Do you accept my proposal, Sorin?” Amaris was oddly calm, and it was frightening.
I noticed Sorin’s fists clench and unclench at his sides. His eyes flicked from Amaris to the emissaries back to Amaris. “You’re running scared that is why you want me out of the way. Because I have the only legitimate heir to the throne.”
“Is that so?” still using that same cold, calm tone of voice. “You’re still going

with that argument?”
I bit my tongue to keep myself from shouting out. My fingertips were beginning to tingle. I couldn’t, I shouldn’t… I met Joyce Rowe’s stare across the room. Steady breaths, keep on breathing.
Amaris smoothed down the lapels of Sorin’s jacket and left him standing there. He went to the three emissaries. “As for the absurd allegation that I am under my mate’s spell, let me make it clear for you. Yes, I am under her spell. The spell of the mating bond. That and the fact that I am in love with her, and she is carrying my pup, the heir to the throne. Mine. Despite what my brother is saying. He is talking out of his .”
“She laid with Athan!” Sorin screamed out.
That was it! “Were you there? Watching me from the shadows?” I couldn’t keep quiet any longer. “Or was that what YOU desired when you lured me to the rampart that day or when you cornered me in my bedroom while your king was being held prisoner by the vampire?” Briefly I saw Ross hiding a smile ast my legs carried me to where Sorin stood. Show no fear. I didn’t fear Sorin, I only held contempt for him. He was poison.
He folded his arms across his chest, looking at me up and down, letting his wolf glare back at me to intimidate me. “What are you implying, Witch?” Sorin snarled at me. “I never touched you.”
I refused to be threatened. With my hands on my hips I glared back at him, feeling the power sizzling at my fingertips, and I pressed them tight against my hipbones. I couldn’t risk touching Sorin. “That you are so blinded by jealousy and envy of your brother that you would go to any lengths to hurt and discredit him. And what better weapon than using our bond against us. You should be ashamed of yourself Sorin Black.”
Sorin scoffed at my words. “It is you who should be ashamed. You have no right to be queen.” He turned to the elders. “You know that. All of you! Are you all blind or are you just spineless?!”
Elder Mattias shook his head. “Your Highness, please this is not the time…”
“No, this is the perfect time! Look at her! She is practically about to explode.

Yeah, come on. Show them. Show them what you are!” He reached for me, but I stepped back.
“Sorin, don’t…” I didn’t want him to touch me, afraid of what might happen. It had no control over it.
But that didn’t stop him. Amaris lunged forward to stop him, but it was already too late. Sorin had me in an iron grip, his extended claws dug into my flesh. The pain turned to anger, and the anger brought the power surging through my blood, flesh, and bone. It played on my skin, purple lightning–like bolts. It didn’t hurt me, but Sorin was screaming in pain. I watched, fascinated, as he writhed, dropping to his knees but unable to release my arm. His eyes. rolled to the back of his head and still the bolts surged through him.
Joyce Rowe ran towards us, stopping Amaris from touching me. She snapped her fingers in front of my face. “Raine! Release him!”
I felt detached from my body. I heard what she said, heard everything but I couldn’t move, couldn’t stop what was happening. And a part of me didn’t want to. I wanted to kill Sorin.
Amaris pushed Joyce out of the way and grabbed me by the shoulders. “It’s okay. You’re safe.” I heard him say and I collapsed into his arms.
“You’re alright. Raine, look at me.” Amaris held me against his chest. I was vaguely aware of a commotion in the throne room.
–
“What happened?” I managed to say I was drained so tired. Could hardly keep my head up. Amaris lifted me up into his arms and carried me to a bench.
I saw Sorin being helped into a chair and given something to drink. Then I remembered the power surging through me. I clung onto Amaris shivering as if I bathed in ice.
Sorin looked up from where he sat, and his face was a mask of hatred. “See! You all see what she did. She is dangerous.”
“Shut up!” Amaris roared at him, “You brought it on yourself. I should hang

you for this!”
My sleeve was torn and bloodied but my skin had already healed where hist claws punctured my skin. The thought that I could have actually killed him terrified me, but more so that I wanted to. I wanted to kill him, and I would have if Amaris hadn’t stopped me.
Joyce Rowe and the Elven girl approached us. “You have no control over it, Queen Raine. You need instruction.” Joyce said. “Come with us and our High Magus will help you.”
Amaris held me even closer. “Over my dead body! She will never leave my side!” I felt his heart thudding against my cheek, he was afraid. It tinged his scent, it was faint, but it was there.
“Your Majesty, you have to consider the safety of your subjects as well as yourself. The queen is unstable.” Elder Jonas stood shoulder to shoulder with. the redhaired witch. “There’s no telling what damage she could do.”
“The only damage that will be done is by my hand! She was defending herself!” Amaris lashed out at Elder Jonas and the older man retreated with his head bowed. “Raine does not need to explain herself to any of you. She is your queen, and you will respect that!”
