The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 68
Chapter 68
I stopped them. I actually stopped them. I couldn’t believe it. But now everyone was looking at me like I was some kind of freak. Well, maybe I was.
“What the hell just happened?” Amaris shook his head like he’d come out of some trance. He picked himself off the floor. “Raine?”
“You see! This is what I was talking about!” Sorin scrambled to his feet, pointing at me. “She’s a witch! She has you under a spell. That’s the only explanation.”
The elders huddled together, talking amongst themselves, Lord Greyson secured the doors to the throne room, preventing anyone from leaving. Helen ran to Sorin, putting herself between the two brothers. As if that would stop Amaris.
“You could have killed them.” She shot at me over her shoulder.
“I prevented Amaris from killing your mate.” Although I wasn’t sure if that was what I was aiming for.
Amaris stood in front of me, so many questions in his expression. No matter what? Did that still apply?
“Does no one see her for what she is? She is dangerous, and you’re too caught up in her charms to see it. She is cursed.” Sorin held Helen close to him, probably using her as a shield no doubt. I could smell his fear.
“You’re being ridiculous!” Ross growled at Sorin. “You don’t understand a damn thing.”
“Hah!” Sorin leered at him. “There it is! She’s got your Beta fawning at her feet. How many more men have tasted you, Raine? Huh? Seems it wasn’t only Athan whose spawn you’re carrying and trying to
Wh it off as my idiot brother’s.” His face was contorted in a hideous smirk filled with contempt
directed at me.
Those words lashed into me, cutting into my heart but what hurt worse was the doubt I saw flickering in Amaris‘ eyes. No, please… please don’t listen to him. I wanted to
reach for him but found myself rooted
to
the floor, shaken by the viciousness of Sorin’s verbal attack.

“Are you just saying that because I stopped you from violating the queen in her bedroom when she was alone and defenseless? I can call Rhona to attest to that.” Ross snorted a bitter laugh. “It makes me think the prince is only finding ways to make us look away from the actual problem.”
Amaris whipped his head around to glare at Ross and then at Sorin. “What did you say?”
Sorin growled at Ross and shoved Helen out of the way. “Lies! I wouldn’t touch her with a red hot poker.”
Elder Mattias and Elder Jonas rushed forward to stop Amaris from going for Sorin again.
“Please stop this Your Majesty.” Elder Mattias held his hands up in a pleading manner. “These accusations are keeping us from the more important issues, like Beta Ross rightly stated.”
“Lord Greyson! Get the prince out of my sight!” Amaris roared, making Elder Mattias flinch back. “Throw him in the cells. Until further notice.”
“Yes, try and shut me up!” Sorin screeched, “But the truth will out, Amaris and everyone will know the disrespect you have for the traditions. We cannot have a witch for a queen.”
Lord Greyson opened the doors and the guards marched in to take Sorin into custody. Helen sank to her knees before Amaris.
“Please, you can’t do this, Amaris. Sorin only wants to protect the kingdom. He wants…”
“I know what he wants, Helen. Get the out of my throne room or join your foolish mate.” Amaris pulled her up by her arm and shoved her into Ross’s. “See that she stays in her quarters.”
‘Right away, Your Majesty.” Ross said and dragged the cursing princess away.
Amaris took my hand and led me back to the throne where he sat down and pulled me onto his lap as if nothing had happened. But I heard the wild beating of his heart drumming against his ribs and felt the nervous energy coursing through his tight muscles.
“Elder Mattias, proceed.” Amaris clutched the armrests of the throne, bracing himself for what the elder would say.

I wanted to talk to him through our link, explain to him what happened. But how could I when I don’t
really know myself.
“Yes, about the werewolves you brought back, Your Majesty…”
Lord Greyson stepped forward to take a stand next to the elder. “If I may, Your Majesty, I’ve temporarily for them to be housed in tents close to the kitchens.”

“But is it safe. For the rest of the castle?” Elder Mattias countered, “Are you going to incorporate them into our pack, Your Majesty?”
“I will give them a choice, Elder Mattias. If they do not want to be part of this pack, they will be free to leave.” Amaris said. “The vampires took everything from them. Far be it for me to force them to pledge their loyalty to me.”
Elder Mattias bowed his head respectfully. “As the king wishes.”
Ross came into the throne room having taken Helen back to her wing. He bowed briefly and walked rapidly towards us.
“Your Majesties, I have received word that the emissaries of the High Council is requesting an audience with you.” he added in a lower tone. “Actually, it’s more of a demand.”
Amaris nodded. “I will receive them tomorrow at their convenience. Thank you, Beta Ross.”
I swallowed hard at the dry lump that had formed in my throat and Amaris whispered next to my ear, “It will be fine. You have nothing to fear.”
“What about the prince, Your Majesty?” An elder suddenly spoke up. I didn’t know who he was, he was somewhat older than Elder Mattias.
“What about him, Elder Francis? He disrespected the queen and thanks to her, he is still breathing. Although for how long…” Amaris‘ chest heaved as his temper flared once again. I placed my hand on his
arm to calm him.
Elder Francis lifted his hand, “But he had a point, Your Majesty. The traditions…”

“Well, he was right about one thing, I don’t give a about the traditions!” Amaris voice slammed against the walls, “And that is one of the issues I aim to change.”
“Amaris, don’t say things you can’t take back.” I cautioned him, afraid that it would make everything
worse.
“Come now, Elders, you are all avoiding the elephant in the room.” Amaris once again rose from his throne, lifting me off his lap. He held my hand tightly. “Let me make it easy for you. Sorin brought up the issue of Queen Raine being unfit to rule by my side. I dare you, anyone of you to challenge me. She is and will be the only one I chose.” Amaris turned to me and cupped my face with one hand. “Whether she is a witch or just an Omega she–wolf with special abilities, I do not care. She is my soulmate, and this pup is mine, the heir to my throne.” He turned his gaze back to the elders. “And anyone who has something to say on this matter better beware. Heads will roll. Starting with my brother’s.”
