While dancing with Helen, moving like a robot across the floor, I kept my attention on Sorin. He speaking to her, and I was anxious to hear, but there were too many sounds making it harder to focus.
“They move well together, don’t you think?” Helen batted her eyes at me. I had to suppress the urge to growl at her.
“Shouldn’t you be resting in your condition? Last night you were in such pain, supposedly.” My voice dripped with sarcasm which I hoped she’d
get.
“Oh, thank you for your concern, Amaris. But Sorin had the healer make me a restorative tea. It helped so much.” She smiled, tightlipped.
When the music ended, I couldn’t get away from Helen fast enough. I walked her back to my brother and took Raine back in my arms.
just a second too long and I couldn’t contain
“Thank you, that was delightful.” Sorin bowed slightly over Raine’s hand. He held her hand for ju myself. I pulled her away.
“Yes, quite. Come, Raine. We still have some arrangements to discuss before the ceremony tomorrow, Excuse us. With my hand on the small of her back. I led her to our table,
“Are you alright, Amaris? Raine asked when we were seated.
I filled our glasses with more champagne. “No, I just wanted to have you to myself.” I loved the way her cheeks flushed, and her eyes sparkled when she smiled at me.
“I wouldn’t mind going to your room,” she said her voice softly suggestive, and she lowered her pretty eyes shyly.
“Our room, ours. What is mine is yours, don’t forget that Ruine.” I touched her flushed cheek, tracing the fine bone structure of her cheekbone to her jaw with one finger, enjoying the softness of her skin. I would give her anything she asked for, the sun, the moon and the stars. She was my universe. Mine.
Why does everyone especially my Beta-keep interrupting our moments?
“Sire, I need to speak to you. In private, please.” Ross hovered next to my seat his hands clasped behind his back.
I groaned. “Can’t it wait, for once, in the name of peace!”
“I’m afraid not. Pardon, your Majesty, this addressed at Raine.
Raine smiled sweetly at me. “I understand, Amaris.”
We went outside away from t
the crowd where we couldn’t be overheard, keeping to the shadows to hide us from prying eyes.
Trouble is brewing in the other realms, Amaris. The kingdoms are divided amongst themselves. Because of your upcoming wedding to Raine.” Ross sighed deeply.
Instantly my
my irritation surfaced. The other realms had no right to meddle in my affairs. “This is outrageous. What the hell does it have to do with them whom I make my queen?” I leaned back against the stone wall, drawing strength from IL
Ross threw his hands in the air. “I know this is frustrating. But they fear that if your crown falls, the werewolves would once again turn against the other realms to claim supremacy. Even over the humans.” He touched my arm. “Most of them won’t attend the wedding fearing revolt.”

I slapped his hand away in anger. Rage seethed in my mind, needing to be let out. “Their fears are irrational. For f uck’s sake. Our bond will make
only me stronger
Ross frowned at me arms folded across his chest. “I am only telling you what I heard, Amaris. Don’t take your anger out on me.”

He glared back into my eyes but lowered his voice. “Amaris don’t say that. You will lose the peace we’ve fought so hard to achieve.”
I slapped the wall beside his face feeling my hold slipping on my wolf. My canines protruded over my lips, piercing them. I wiped the blood from my mouth with the back of my hand. Rage retreated sullenly.
“Can you calm down for a second? Ross straightened his jacket, wiping imaginary dust off his shoulders.
“I am c
calm. What is it?”
“Has she conceived yet? I haven’t noticed that her scent has changed. Well, except for having your scent all over her.” he said with a smirk.
He was touching on a sensitive subject, something that nagged at the back of my mind that I kept pushing aside. “I don’t know. Maybe we should have her examined by the healers.” Maybe there was something wrong with me.
“Hah! There’s nothing wrong with us: Rage huffed in outrage.
Ross was not letting it go. “What if she doesn’t get pregnant? What will you

“You know what would happen if there were no heir, Amaris. I am your friend, and I am telling
I snarled at him, “Then as my friend I need you to shut the f uck up. I will not take another she wolf.” My loud voice drew attention to us and the last person I wanted to hear us just happened to lurk around. He stepped forward.
“Oh, dear… Are you having trouble conceiving, brother? Maybe I could give you a hand?” Sorin sniggered and I saw red.
Losing control, I launched myself at my brother.
“No! Amaris… your Majesty…” I heard Ross screaming at me. “Guards!”
Blind with rage I smashed my fist into his arrogant face. We tumbled to the ground, grunting and swearing, tearing at each other’s clothes. “I will kill you, you bas ta rd!” I smashed his head into the g
grass, wanting to spill his brains into the ground,
The guards came running, grabbed me pulling at my arms, in an effort to get me off him. Our scuffle attracted a small crowd. Concerned and shocked calls from the onlookers brought more of them, curious to see what the fuss was about. Raine was among them.
He laughed at me, spat blood in my face. “Way to go, Amaris.

what a warrior you are.”
Beta Ross helped him up. “Your Highness, please. This is uncalled for.”
“Get out of my sight Sorin!” I roared at him. As I wrestled free from my guards, I saw Raine’s shocked face staring at me. I never wanted her to see me like this.
Wiping the blood from his mouth with his sleeve, he smiled and nodded, “I understand your frustration, brother. But don’t worry, your Your secret is safe with me.”
