The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 13
Chapter 13
RAINE
14:59
I woke to an empty bed and a strange feeling of longing. His scent still lingered on me and on everything else in the room, but still I missed him, his body next to mine. Could it be true, was he really our second chance mate?
‘I know you want him to be, Raine. Tasha’s soft voice sounded in my head.
“But you felt something too, didn’t you? Didn’t you accept his wolf?” I asked her, but I knew she did because I felt it.
‘Rage? Do I have a choice? Seeing as you seem to enjoy what the king is doing to you.’ Tasha scoffed. She replayed last night’s images in my head making me blush from head to toe. ‘Don’t even deny it, Raine.”
I couldn’t. They way he made me feel when he touched me, kissed me, it was heavenly.
“Yeah well, be careful with your heart, Raine. Men like him could break us when it suited them.”
I refused to listen to Tasha further and I was relieved when the Omega ser vants knocked at the door. They were the same girls that helped me the day before. Rona, or the bossy one, as I nicknamed her, strode in with the two others following.
“Glad to see you’re awake, your Majesty. I imagine you had a pleasant night, because the king is in such a good mood today.” She actually smiled at me, and I was amazed at how it softened her somewhat harsh features.
“Uh… Yes, thank you.” I got up and took the robe Lily held out to me.
“I’ll get your bath ready, your Majesty.” Sarah bowed her head and immediately went to the bathroom.
“What outfit would you like to wear today?” Rona opened a large walk-in dressing room I didn’t even know was there. It was stacked with clothes and shoes and accessories. Yesterday she didn’t give me an option. I wondered what changed.
I couldn’t help but gape at all of it. “Are all these mine?”
“Well, I don’t see any other woman in the king’s bed.” She rolled her eyes at me. “Mind if I suggest something? I hear you will be going to the consort Princess Helen today to discuss the wedding.”

Rona pulled me into the dressing room and looked me straight in the eyes. I noticed her eyes were of two different colors and I found it interesting.
“Don’t be fooled by her pretty face, your Majesty. She is a real bit ch. And not in a good way.” She lowered her voice so only I could hear. Then she spoke normally. “I think this violet dress will be suitable, it compliments your coloring.”
“… Thank you, Rona.” I didn’t know what to make of her warning and her sudden change towards me.
“Your bath is ready.” Sarah called out in a sing-song voice.
Lily was changing the bedding when I walked out of the dressing room with Rona arranging my clothes, shoes.
and accessories. –

“Remember what I said.” Rona said in passing.
Like a lamb led to slau ghter, that is how I felt being led down the stairs to the parlor where Helen waited for me have breakfast with her, thanks to Rona’s warning. Being bullied throughout my school years, I expected nothing less, although a part of me wished that this time it would be different. I really needed to feel safe, and I longed
for a friend other than my wolf.
Helen looked beautiful and elegant in a blue wrap-around dress, her blonde hair done up in a chignon and a p earl nec klace around her slender neck. She stood up when I came in and stretched her arms out to me.
“Oh, my… Raine, you look gorgeous. Come, sit and eat with me.” She took my hand and led me to the chair next to hers. The table was laden with food, croissants, fruit and meats. My mouth was salivating.
“Thank you, your High…eh… Helen.” I still felt uncomfortable using her name.
“Please, help yourself. I still feel a bit sick in the morning, so I only have fruit.” She stroked over her tummy.
“You’re pregnant?” I didn’t know.
She tittered, “Amaris didn’t tell you?” she shook her head thoughtfully. “Of course…

The croissant tasted bitter in my mouth. “Of course, what?”

She wasted her hand at me. “Nothing, nothing. So, the kitchen wants to know what menu they should prepare for the wedding and how many guests you will be inviting. Have you decided?”
I stared at her blankly. Amaris hasn’t discussed anything of the kind with me. I was at a loss.
“Poor dear, of course, you wouldn’t know.” She reached out a hand to mine. “Don’t worry, I will handle it. I’m sure Amaris will want to have all the important Alphas and their Lunas to attend. It’s so easy to forget someone. and then have them be offended. We can’t have that.”
I zoned out when I realized just how out of my depth I was. How could he do this to me? I didn’t know the first thing about hosting a feast, being a queen, hell, I don’t even know how to dress properly.
….and of course, then there is your family.” I heard her say.
“What?” My eyes snapped to hers.
“Your family, dear.” She inclined her head like she was waiting for me to say something.
“I don’t have any family.” Peter was not my family.
Her mouth made an O form. “Oh, I’m so sorry. No matter, let me handle the invitations and the menu then.. About the dress…” Her blue eyes weighed me, measured me, and found me wanting. “You’re very small, I think something plain would suit you.”
“She would look beautiful in whatever she wears.” Amaris’ deep voice boomed behind us. “And Raine will make
her own choice, Helen.”
Both of us got up when he sauntered into the parlor, making it seem smaller.
“We were discussing your guests, Amaris. Raine needs help in preparing the guest list.” Helen smiled slightly at
me.
“I’ve given the list to the steward. He knows what to do.” Amaris held out his hand to me. “Come, Raine. We need
some fresh air.”
I nodded to Helen, “Thank you for breakfast,” I said and followed the king out.

We only spoke once we were outside in the garden.
“She was only trying to help.” I felt the need to defend Helen, because she seemed kind.

Amaris snorted. “Yeah, I wouldn’t be so sure. Be careful, my sweet Raine. Not everyone is what they seem at
court.”

“But I don’t know anything, Amaris.” I turned to him, “I have no clue what to do. You should never have chosen me.” He had thrown me into the deep end, and I didn’t know how to swim.
A growl burst out from his lips. “Never say that again. I didn’t choose you, Raine. The moon goddess chose us to be together.” Hands of steel gripped my arms. “I don’t care whether no one comes to our wedding, as long as you and I are present. That is all I care about.”
I looked up into his smoldering dark eyes. He was dead serious.
“You know the packs would never accept me.” I wasn’t oblivious of the chatter going on in the hallways and the stares I got as I passed the ser vants and other pack members. They regarded me as no better than them, a sla ve
or a ser vant.
“Does it matter to you that much what others think, Raine?” Amaris stroked his thumb over my cheekbone, and I leaned my face into his palm. “You should only care what I think of you. I won’t let anyone come between us.”
It was easy for him to say. He was the king.
“I will ask my personal secretary Beta Ross to instruct you in the, business of the court and what would be expected of you, Raine. But after the wedding. Now I just want you to focus on me, on us. Can you do that?” He
smiled down at me. His warm hand on the small of my back sent tingles up and down mysime My body was
quick to react to even the slightest touch from him. He was fast becoming my addiction.
“Yes,” the words came out breathily.
“Good.” His lips brushed mine, so lightly it left me wanting more and I closed my eyes, waiting for him to follow through. When he didn’t, I opened my eyes to find him staring at me, grinning slightly, his eyes hooded.
“Amaris?”
“You have no idea what you do to me.” he said, his eyes roving over my face as his hand travelled from my cheek. to cup my breast. “I have a good mind to take you right here on the grass. But the gardeners are watching.” He

I gasped which turned into a laugh. “Oh, my g od…”
He lifted me into his arms and carried me away into the castle.
