Chapter CHAPTER 38
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
BRINLEY.
"Tell my family hi for me," I say, hugging Amanda.
"I will. Thanks for everything, don't be a stranger now, okay,” Amanda says, wiping away her tears. "I won't," 1 shake my head.
"Look at us,” Katie says, wrapping her arms around Amanda and me. "The Three Musketeers back together again,”
We all laugh at that.
We used to call ourselves the three musketeers because we were together all the time. They were there for me during the hard times.
I will never forget that.
"I love you both. But, Brinley, I'll come back and see your baby once he is born,” Amanda quips.
I nod to her.
"I'd like that,”
"I'm sorry I won't be here. But Amanda will send me pictures,” Gabriel says, smiling as he wraps his arm around Amanda's waist.
"Xander might be okay by then. I'll talk to him," I tell Gabriel.
He shakes his head.
"Don't. Look, Brinley, I don't want you fighting with your mate over me,”
I frown.
"But it's not like that. You're my best friend, mate, he will have to see you at some point, and it would be nice if he didn't want to rip you a new one every time he saw you,"
Gabriel chuckles.
"True," He nods.
"But we need to get going. I had mom go by and get the baby some pajamas and formula for tonight,” Gabriel tells Amanda.
"Good. I can't wait till everyone meets Henry," Amanda says.
"The soon-to-be Alpha of the shadow pack,” Katie and I say in unison.
"Oh, I cannot wait," Gabriel mutters. Amanda smacks him playfully.
"Don't rush,”
He chuckles at her and kisses her cheek.
"Bye guys," They say and wave as they pull out of the driveway.
"I'm gonna go lie down. My back is killing me," I tell Katie.
"Are you okay?" She asked with concern-filled eyes.
"I'm fine; just been on my feet all day with this belly being so big is a killer on the back,”
"Oh, I hear ya," She says.
"You're such a good boy," I tell Bane.
I'm currently leaning over the porcelain tub, bathing Bane for the night. I rested my back for about an hour, but the pain hadn't subsided yet. Bane was fussy from being hungry, so I fed him a bottle and bathed him.
Bane's brightly blue peered up at me as I poured the warm water over his body and made crashing sounds like the waves.
"What are you doing?" Julia asks from the doorway.
"Bathing Bane. He loves the ocean sounds,” I say, smiling at her.
"Oh yeah. He also likes the tickle monster,” She said in a crazy voice as she tickled Bane's belly. "Thanks for bathing him. I know you have grown attached to Bane. Which is why I want to be the first to tell you," She says, lowering her gaze.
"Tell me what?"
"Jerry and I are moving in together. Mrs. Bates will give me a different time to be here to do my duties in the palace still."
"Who will watch Bane?"
She shakes her head.
"Jerrys Mom,"
I can feel the tears begin to brim my eyes. I love Bane. I don't want Julia to take him away and not bring him back.
"Can I still have him sometimes?"
Julia smiles and nods.
"Of course. I wouldn't take him away from you completely, and I was letting you know."
I nod.
"When are you leaving?"
"Now," Julia sighs rinsing Bane off and wrapping him in a towel.
"I'll bring him back to see you,” She tells me before walking out of the door with half of my heart in her arms.
I walk into mine and Xander's room empty-handed.
I planned on keeping Bane tonight. But I am happy for Julia and her mate Jerry.
I miss Bane.
Xander was sitting on the chair, reading over some paperwork.
He always brings paperwork to bed if he doesn't want to make conversation with me. He is still pissed at me as he should be. I disobeyed his orders, knowing the consequence.
"Do you need some help?”
"No."
I sigh and walk into the bathroom to get ready for bed.
I stand under the hot water, letting it cascade down my body. My stomach tightens, and pain shoots through my back and torso.
I need to finish this shower and lie down and relax the rest of tonight. But something happing that doesn't feel right.
Something is gushing from between my thighs, and I'm getting light-headed suddenly. I look down, and my eyes widen.
Blood.
"Xander?" I yell, or I think I do before everything goes black.
XANDER.
The familiar Metalic scent of blood spreads through the room.
I stand from my chair and walk to the bathroom door. I can hear the sound of the shower running but nothing else.
I knock.
"Brinley?"
No answer.
Fuck.
I open the bathroom room, and my eyes widen at the scene in front of me. Brinley is lying on the shower floor unconscious, and blood is oozing from between her legs.
"Fuck," I curse and pick her up into my arms, her body limp in my arms.
I open my mind-link to Dr. Jacob.
“Meet me at the hospital Something is wrong with Brinley. She's unconscious, and blood is pouring like a fucking pool from between her legs.’
I ended the mind-link and headed for the hospital.
"Do you need anything?" Kyle asks.
I shake my head.
This is all my fault. I was too hard on her. All she was trying to do was mend her friendship with Amanda, and I acted like a fucking dick because of my jealousy.
"Kelsy and Delores are on their way," Katie says, sitting next to me.
"Has the Dr. Come out yet?" She asks.
"No. And if he doesn't fucking tell me something soon, I'm going fucking strangle him,"
"Calm down, Xander,” Kyle mutters.
Easy for him to say it's not his mate.
My jaw clenches.
"Kyle, go home and check on Ana, will you?" Katie asks him. She probably knows I'm going to break his straight nose if he doesn't shut up.
"Fine,"
I watch as he leaves the waiting area and sigh.
"Thanks," I tell Katie, who nods.
Katie nudges me with her elbow, and I narrow my eyes at her, but she focuses on something else. I follow her gaze, and my heart stops seeing Jacobs walking toward us, his scrubs covered in blood. "How is she?" I say, walking over to him.
"The placenta detached from the uterus. But the baby is okay. You got them here just in time," He says.
Katie wrapped her arm around my waist and dug her nails into my skin.
"And Brinley?" She asked.
He shakes his head.
"She lost a lot of blood which is why she fainted. She is on a blood transfusion as we speak, but she will be fine."
I sigh with relief, and so does Katie.
"What about Dominic's heart? Can I see them?"
"You can see the baby. But Brinley is resting, and it's best to let her for a while,"
I nod.
"take me to my son,” I tell Jacobs.
He nods.
I turn to Katie.
"When Kelsy and Delores get here, tell them what the DR. said. No need to wait around here; once they arrive, take them to the palace, prepare them a room, and you can see Brinley tomorrow," Katie's lips part. "I want to see the baby,”
"I need time alone with him before Brinley gets her hands on him,” I chuckle.
Katie smiles, nodding her head.
"Oh yeah. No one will get him once she wakes up," Katie says, waving me off.
I follow Jacobs to a massive room full of babies.
"He's right there," Jacobs says, pointing to the trim cover bed.
"What's that?"
"It's an incubator to help him breathe until we're sure he can breathe independently. This is just a precaution because of his heart,"
I nod at the Dr, not taking my eyes off the tiny baby lying with tubs in his nose and wires all over his body.
“l want to see my mate,"
He sighs.
"Xander, she needs rest,"
I narrow my eyes, and he shakes his head.
"Fine. Follow me,"
We walk and make bends until he stops in front of a door and motions me to go in.
"Don't wake her," He says, shaking his head as he walks away.
I open the door, and Brinley is lying in bed asleep I stride over to her, pull the chair up to the bed, and hold her hand.
"I'm sorry little mate,”
I shake my head and kiss the soft skin of her hand.
"This is all my fault. I put too much stress on you, and you probably hate me,"
"I could never hate you,"
Brinley says, stirring in the bed, her eyes barely open. She scrunches her nose.
"My stomach hurts.” She says her voice horse.
I grab the cup of water with the straw and bring it to her lips. She takes greedy sips.
"Why am I in so much pain?”
"The placenta detached. You were unconscious, and you underwent a C-section,” She groans. "You better get fixed if I get pregnant again. I'm cutting your balls off,”
I chuckle.
"Deal,"
My little mate holds her belly and glances over at me.
"How's Dominic? Is he okay?"
I smile.
"He's fine. He is hooked to many machines to make sure his heart is okay on its own,”
"You seen him?"
I nod.
"Does he look okay?"
"He is beautiful as his mother,"
My little mate's cheeks turn red, and she hides her face.
I remove her hands from her face and stroke her cheek softly.
"You're adorable when you flushed,"
"Shut up.”
Well, her attitude is back.
"I'm sorry little mate. I knew you wouldn't do anything wrong, but when I saw his hands on what belongs to me, I-1,"
"You were jealous,”
I nod.
"Crazy jealous. I wanted to brake his hands,”
Brinley laughs only to wince from the pain.
"It hurts to laugh,” She pouts.
I lean over and press the button that releases pain meds.
"There, that should help,”
"Thanks," She mutters.
"I love you, little mate,”
"I love you too, Thomas," She smirks.
I narrow my eyes at her for using my middle name.
"The names Xander,"
She shakes her head.
"You will always be my Xander Thomas Caputo,” She whispers, shutting her eyes.
The medication is making her sleepy.
"Go to sleep, little mate. I won't leave you,”
She nods but doesn't open her eyes.
I lean back in my chair and try to relax now that I know my mate and baby are okay.
A noise from the hallway caught my attention. I walked over to the door nurses and doctors were running around.
Code blue, someone said through the speakers. I followed the commotion.
“What's a code blue?’ Bane asks.
I shrug.
'l don't know. But I'm going to find out,’ I replied.
I frowned.
They were headed the same way Jacobs showed me, Dominic.
I pick up the pace and push everyone out of my way.
It can’t be Dominic.
Jacobs said he was fine. I remind myself.
I rounded the last corner and walked over to the glass window.
My heart dropped.
They were trying to revive Dominic's heart.
