Chapter CHAPTER 37
CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
BRINLEY.
"Brinley, I didn't mean to cause trouble between you and the Alpha King,"
I shake my head.
"You didn't," I hold my chin up and force a smile.
"Now, shall we find Amanda?"
Gabriel nods.
I walk back into the house with Gabriel following in suit. I head in the direction of the backyard where the kids are playing.
Gabriel and I look all over, but no sign of Amanda.
"Are you sure you left her here?"
Gabriel nods.
“I'm sure,"
I shrug my shoulders.
"Maybe she is getting some tea," I tell him and motion for him to follow.
Just before I open the door to the Kitchen, Amanda comes down the stairs holding a baby in her arms
"Gabriel, look,” Amanda says, showing him the baby in her arms.
I frowned.
I don't remember the nuns having a baby this small.
"We better talk to the nuns,” I tell them. "They may be just watching him," I inform the two of them, and the smile that spread across Amanda's face falls.
"He was dropped off on our doorstep last night with a blanket and note that said I cannot care for him. Find Henry a good home," Sister Mary Danvers says, heaving a sigh.
"Have he seen a doctor?" I ask her, and she shakes her head.
"I haven't taken him yet," She says, taking a sip of her tea.
"Can we adopt him?" Amanda asks.
The nun shakes her head.
"Afraid not. We cannot release a child until he has seen a doctor. And that might be a few more days; I don't have the time today or tomorrow,”
Amanda nods.
"Sister, I can take him to Dr. Jacob. I don't mind," I tell her.
"You've done enough for us, Luna. I cannot ask any more of you,” She says, shaking her head. "You didn't ask. I volunteered,"
"Are you sure you have the time?"
I nod my head.
“I'm certain.”
"Well, from my exam, he looks to be a couple of weeks old and healthy. So I don't see why Henry here couldn't be adopted,” Dr. Jacob says.
I nod my head.
"I was trying to be sure he was okay. My friends want to adopt him, and you can't adopt them out without being checked by a doctor,”
Dr. Jacob shakes his head.
"He is fine. Here is a note stating what I did when your friends take him home for a regular check- up," He says, handing me the paper.
"Thanks for your help,” I tell him as I walk out of the door and out of the office.
I can't wait to get back and tell Amanda and Gabriel the excellent news. I've been trying to focus on anything other than Xander and him being so mad at me. His words still ring in my rears as if he is roaring them out loud.
"You'll pay for this,"
'He has a right to be angry. You disobeyed him and let Gabriel come here; you knew of his intention he could have hurt you," My wolf Sage quips.
I shake my head.
'ls so wrong to want to mend my relationship with Amanda? Gabriel is her mate, and when I visit my family, I'm bound to run into him, so why not fix it all now?" I ask.
She shakes her wolf head.
"You hurt Xander and his wolf. I can feel it,’ She pouts.
I frowned.
"You're communicating with his wolf? Do you know how dangerous that is?" I replied.
'I haven't. But I feel his wolf, my mate. He longs for me, and I-1," She sighs, shaking her head.
'And you hate not being able to be with him?" I finish for her. She nods.
'I'm sorry, Sage; if you want, I can tell Xander about you,"
She shakes her head.
'l can't risk losing you, my little Human. I'll be fine," She says as she cowers in the back of her mind closing me off again.
I feel bad for Sage. She wants to be close to Xander, and Maybe if I tell him the truth about her, his wolf Might fight to keep her safe.
I have to do this for Sage.
"So, that's it?" Amanda pauses, looking at Sister Mary Danvers, "We can take him home?"
She shakes her head.
"You both have to take these papers to the King. He signs, then you both sign, and it is done. After that, you will be able to Henry home,” She tells them.
Amanda smiles and turns to Gabriel.
"Let's go get these signed,” She tells him. Her smile brightens up the room. She's that excited.
But Gabriel nor I have told Amanda about Gab’s encounter with Xander yet.
"Amanda," Gabriel starts.
"Let us go. I'll explain everything to her on the way," I cut Gabriel off. She frowns.
"Tell me what?"
Gabriel grabs her hand and kisses it gently.
"Nothing for you to worry about, my love," He says, and she nods.
"Gabriel, this is a bad idea. He thinks you made a move on Brinley, not to mention your attempt to hurt her at the party. He will kill you, and I'm not ready to lose you, so let's take Henry back to the orphanage,” She says, tears brimming her eyes.
Gabriel hits the brakes and cups her face.
"We are not leaving here without our son," He tells her firmly.
She sighs.
"I can't lose my mate," She says, her lip quivering.
"You won't," He tells her.
She nods, and Gabriel begins to drive the five minutes to the palace.
"I'll do what I can to make sure he doesn't hurt you," I tell Gabriel as we stand at the door to Xander's office.
"I can take care of myself," Gabriel says, grinning.
"Shut up, Gabriel; now is not the time to be a hero,” Amanda says, shaking her head with a smile and tilting her lips.
I open the door, and Xander is leaning against the window. He glances over his shoulder and sighs but doesn't turn around.
"Alpha King. I'm Amanda, Brinley's friend, and I would appreciate it if you would please sign the papers so I can take my new baby home,” Amanda tells him.
He doesn't say anything, only silence.
"Xander?" I say, walking over to him and placing a hand on his shoulder. He quickly pushes my hand away and turns to face Amanda.
"I will sign it for you. I am also sorry for your loss," Xander says as he scratches his name on the paper.
Amanda signs her along with Gabriel, and Xander meets his gaze.
"I gave your mate what she wanted. I won't kill you because she's been through enough, but make no mistakes, don't fucking back here. I won't be so generous next time,” Xander tells Gabriel. He walks back to the window, ignoring completely.
"Thank you,” Amanda mutters, clutching the newborn.
Xander nods to her as his reply.
"Xander, talk to me,” I try and touch his arm again, and he squeezes my arms tight as he pushes me against the window frame.
"Leave," He grits out, tightening his grip before nudging me towards the door.
Tear swell up in my eyes, but I've caused this. He thinks I chose Gabriel's side over his, but I didn't. I wanted Amanda to be happy.
"Can you ladies give us a minute, please?" Gabriel says, turning towards us. Amanda's face contorts, but she says nothing.
"Do you want to show me your baby’s room?" Amanda says, trying to get me to leave the door.
I nod and start moving. Amanda follows behind me.
Xander made Dominic a giant nursery. I put an extra crib and toys for Bane as well.
I have him most of the time.
Julia and Jerry are always having a mating session.
EW!
I open the door and motion her inside.
"Wow," Her eyes go wide.
"It's beautiful,” She breathed.
"Thanks," I mutter, rubbing my probably bruised arms.
"Are you okay?" Amanda asks.
I nod.
"I'm fine," I lied.
My arms hurt, but not near as bad as my heart.
"Are you sur-" Amanda started, then closed her mouth, and her eyes went wide when she heard a cry.
She looks down at sleeping Henry, then at my round belly, and frowns.
I laugh, shaking my head.
"It's Bane. He belongs to Julia, and I'm sure Katie told you," I tell her picking him up in my arms, and he stops crying.
Amanda nods.
"Can we see Katie? I want her to meet Henry," She says.
"Of course,” I tell her and show her how to Katie and Kyle's suite.
Amanda knocks on the door, and Kyle lets us in, and he excuses himself.
Kyle probably doesn't want to be the only man in the room with three women and three crying babies.
Xander.
"What the fuck was that?"
I turn around and face him. Gabriel stands with his hands fisted at his side.
I raise a brow and look him in the eye.
"And what do you plan to do with those?" I amuse.
"Don't put your hands on your mate when it's me your upset with," He says, shaking his head.
My jaw ticks.
The fucking nerve of this bastard.
"She's my mate. What I do with her is none of your concern,”
"She did nothing wrong," He says, taking a step toward me.
The rage starts to boil through my veins, pumping the adrenaline, and it takes all I have not to rip his head off.
Gabriel sighs.
"You don't know half of what she went through. She doesn't deserve your coldness,”
I lean against the window seal and raise my brow.
"Is that why you were the cause of most of her pain?" I retort.
He grimaces.
"I had no choice. My father warned me if I didn't do what he said, he would kill her," He paused, licking his lips. "I couldn't let that happen, so I did what needed to be done,”
My body stiffened, and I clenched my molars so hard that it felt like they were about to crack. "Owen told me you loved her and fought to be with her, but he wouldn't allow it, said he wanted better for her,"
Gabriel laughs. And I stay silent, he says.
"Oh, your serious?"
"Why would I lie?"
Gabriel shakes his head.
"Owen lied. He tried to force me to reject her because she wasn't fit to be a luna. He said the other packs would mock us having a piss pour omega as their leader. And when I refused to give her up, he went to my father, and he told me if I didn't reject her, he would kill her and banish me,"
Why would Owen lie? He was on his death bed when he told me this.
"So what, you're the hero in all this?" I gritted through clenched teeth.
"No," He shakes his head.
"I'm far from a hero. I know what I did to her was wrong. I apologized, and she accepted, and I know it was for the sake of Amanda, but still,"
"You tried to kill her," I say, fisting my palms at the memory.
"Yes. I was in the wrong place, Amanda had just miscarried for the second time, and she was hurting, and Brinley was pregnant, and Amanda was so upset that I-1," He sighs, shaking his head. "I was drunk and messed up. I admit that, but I wouldn't have hurt her,”
"Because you know I'd fucking kill you if you did. Which I will say don't fucking touch what's mine again, or you'll never walk away next time,”
Gabriel nods.
"Agreed. Thanks for doing this for Amanda,” He says and walks out the door.
"Fuck," I mutter and slam my fist through the nearest wall.
I Ignore the pain that shoots through my knuckles and hits twice a third time.
Pain shoots through my fist along with blood, but I don't stop; I can't.
