Chapter Chapter twenty-five
Evadiene
I had watched in horror as Navi tackled Spencer through the windows but the guards were already at my side. They covered me in their coats and bound my arms temporarily until we could see the doctor.
I didn’t have time to be embarrassed that all these men had once again seen me nearly naked in Covyn’s room in some sort of trouble. Someone had muffled my scream of pain and then scooped me into their arms and took off.
“What about Covyn?” I gasped trying to catch a glimpse before we were running down the hall.
“The Alpha will be fine, I’d be more worried about Spencer.” He grumbled his response but then looked at me. “Pardon me Luna, don’t worry. We’ll get you to the doctor and everything will be fine.”
I didn’t believe him and wished I could ask Spencer.
When I entered the medical bay all of the embarrassment i had by passed in the bedroom returned when the doctor didn’t know where to start. The bruises still wrapped around my neck, the split in my cheek, my swollen bite marks, or the gashes in my arms.
I was given a gown to wear that covered more of me than the unbuttoned shirt and put the guards coats aside. The doctor then peeled away the bit of sheet the guards had bound the wounds with to reveal the claw marks over my forearms that still bled lightly.
“These are quite the scratches,” Doctor Tina began, flushing and redressing the wounds.
“He didn’t mean it.” I blurted out suddenly. “He’s not himself right now.”
She seemed taken off guard and uneasily replied, “of course not Luna. We will treat your wounds and check him out when he calms down.”
I nodded pathetically, biting my lips against making the pained sounds I felt as she fixed me up. The guards remained, watching over me and the door like someone would burst through it any second.
“What’s wrong with him?” I asked quietly, thinking back to Covyn waking me up straddled above me, nipping at my shoulders and neck.
Tina was humming while she worked and stopped to look at me. “Sometimes finding someone’s mate can drive them sick with worry. From the small amount of things I’ve heard, he has a lot of worries for you.”
My shoulders slumped. “I knew I would him nothing but trouble.”
“Don’t say that Luna. You’re new to our world so let me assure you. These things happen, and our Alpha is not the first.” She pat my shoulder after she had secured the last bandage. “If I can be frank Luna?” I nodded. “He has been acting strangely for months now, and at his last few physically he has abnormally high blood pressure, for him, and now we know why.
“He was sensing you but couldn’t find you, and now I think his body is trying to cope with that absence of hormones. He is stuck in that sense of panic of not finding his mate. He will sort it out, just be patient and give him time.”
I nodded again, more sadly this time as I looked at my forearms. The bandages were already darkening with blood, and she had applied a salve to my cheek and something to lighten the bruising on my neck.
Some time later, stretchers with men were rushed in all looking beat and battered. I thought there must have been an attack or something but right behind them was Covyn, Ellion, and Spencer.
Even though Covyn looked the least messed up and I wanted to comfort him, I stayed put and wait for him. When he reached me his arms wrapped around me fully and he sniffed my hair. I stilled in his arms, looking over his shoulder at Ellion and Spencer.
Spencer’s shoulder didn’t look right and he had a fat lip and black eye. From what I could see, Ellion didn’t fair much better, sporting his own shiner and possibly broken fingers.
I pushed Covyn back and held him at arms length. “You scared me.”
His head dropped and his forehead touched mine. “I’m sorry.” His head twisted as he looked at both my arms. “And I hurt you?”
I pulled my arms back and hid them behind my back.
“I’m fine,” I muttered.

Covyn
“This is not fine,-“ I said softly, pulling her arms out front to look at.
I could smell and see the blood beneath the bandages and it made me angry. How had I let this happened to her and what could I ever do to fix a mistake this big?
She looked like she wanted to curl into a ball and hide, so I picked her up and nuzzled my nose into her neck.
“Are you okay?” I asked and she nodded against me, but her body was still rigid in my arms.
“Can we leave here?” She asked softly, looking around and I saw all my men watching us.
I nodded against her and picked her up. Despite her feeling a small amount of calm in my arms she still felt tense.
Right before we left fully she leaned up and whispered in my ear, “can Ellion and Spencer come too?”
My heart turned to stone with those words. She didn’t feel safe alone with me.
I nodded quickly. “Betas, my office.”
I heard Spencer’s shoulder get put in and the sound of ice bags being filled but I didn’t turn around. After a moment I heard their footsteps come up behind me.
“Right behind you Alpha,” Ellion confirmed and we headed off.
When we entered the room I put Evadiene in her spot and closed the sliding doors to make the room sound proof. Spencer followed my lead, closing doors and then sliding the second set together.
I watched Evadiene bring her feet up onto the chair and fold her arms behind it. I thought she was still scared but I tuned into her emotions and saw her face shift as she grew furious.
“Covyn what the fuck happened this morning?” She demanded and both Spencer and Ellion startled.
“Evadiene?… I thought you asked them to come because you were scared of me.” My voice did not correctly hide my absolute shock.
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. “I asked them to come because you have a tendency to neglect to tell me things. I went to bed with my mate licking my neck, and I woke up completely pinned to the bed with him shaking and growling over me. You weren’t hearing anything I was saying and you held me so tightly I couldn’t get away, and I want to know why.”
I shook my head, completely blank I understanding. “Then why did you act like you were scared?”
She felt even more frustrated. “And what would that have looked like if I acted like this in front of everyone? You walk in as you did and I run up and start yelling at you, which believe me I wanted to..
No I was scared, I was worried, but then the doctor said she thought it was a hormone imbalance caused by prolonged high stress, and blood pressure, from looking for me so long. Hormones my ass. You couldn’t even hear my begging you to let me go. You weren’t even in the same galaxy as me in those moments. What the fuck happened?”
I sat behind me desk and huffed. “I don’t know. I had that nightmare over and over all night, looking for you but never finding you. I kind of woke up and heard you calling to me, then there were men in our room and I thought you were in trouble.
“I lost it after that. All we could think about was eliminating anything threats to protect you.”
Evadiene huffed in her seat. “Well I’m not sleeping in the same room let alone the same bed as you until you figure it out.” Her tone was firm, the same way that mine was when I spoke. There was no room for arguing with her.
My wolf whimpered in my chest but we both knew she was right to be nervous. I could see the blood running towards her elbow through the bandage when she moved her feet to the floor and the guilt grew like a stone in my stomach.
“Evadiene,” Ellion spoke quietly, like he hated to speak at all but felt he should. He took a deep breath and began, “Me and the other mated guys have talked, and I want to be very, very clear here that it is not your fault and I would never blame you. Another man tried to mate you…
“Covyn is going against what the animal inside desires by waiting, rightly so, until you’re ready, but he’s an Alpha so that inner animal is strong. Everything that happened to you in the city and then yesterday, makes that animal instinct beg to claim you and make it clear to everyone not to go near you.”
“Isn’t that what the marks are for?” She demanded, untying the neck of her gown and showing both of them at once.
“Not with them like that,” Spencer added, gesturing towards them. “Don’t bite off my head Alpha, I know you’ve been trying, but marks like that say the bond isn’t complete, it’s not a Goddess given pairing, or that the mate doesn’t care. I would suggest tops that hide them until they calm down, though you’ll never be alone between Covyn and I, it makes you a target for advances.”
I went and knelt in front of her, taking one of her hands in mine, nails now all matching but several torn to the skin from scratching at her attacker. Her hands were firm in mine, no trembling or pulling away.
“I do not want you to feel unsafe around me. We’ll find a way to do whatever you need so that you can rest peacefully.” I tried to keep my tone soft and gentle, despite wanting to scream at how quickly our relationship had gone to shit.
“Let me think on it,” she said as softly, then stood up and tapped a book on my desk with her finger. “I’m going to get dressed, and then me and Sequoia are going to peruse the library. There’s a book I’ve been wanting and I’m sure that you have it.”
I nodded and Spencer followed her out, and back to our room. Ellion looked up considerately at me when he was sure they were far enough away and tried to gauge my state.
He got up and closed the doors again before he spoke. “You need to talk to her. Actually talk to her. Too much has happened in such a short time, and though what I said would be common among a lot of Wolven, it’s very unlike you. I feel like there’s more going on…”
I nodded. “I will, we will, I just need to give it some time.”
