Symphony of Death

Chapter 27

Anastasia’s POV

I stirred awake and looked at the clock. Five hours! I sat up and rubbed my face tiredly. I couldn’t believe I fell asleep.

I fixed the strap of my nightgown and combed back my hair with my fingers. I was grateful to Clarissa. She was angry but she was considerate enough to bring me a change of clothes.

Though the sleepwear was too provocative for my liking.

It was only an inch or two below my hips and I was not wearing underwear beneath.

I switched on the lamp and turned towards the bed. Blood rushed to my head when I stood up quickly. The bed was empty. And there were no signs of Cain in his gigantic room.

“He woke up!” I rushed out of the room. “When did he? Why didn’t he tell me?”

I ran around the hallways wildly. This entire wing was Cain’s residence. I hoped with all my might that he would be in one of the many rooms here and not outside.

I came to a more secluded area of his property. The light was almost nonexistent and there were only a pair of doors that were extremely strange-looking.

I felt dubious entering what was behind those closed doors. I wasn’t familiar with this place yet so I couldn’t tell or guess what I might end up running into around the corner without Cain or his family.

I was afraid of losing my way back to his room if I didn’t find him here.

I took a deep breath and opened the doors. They were much heavier than my assessment. I walked inside a spacious roofed veranda. It was illuminated with torchlights along the pillars.

My eyes explored it in the semi-darkness until they landed on a lone figure sitting in what looked like a hot spring in the middle of the veranda.

“Cain?” I called out cautiously. “It’s you, right?” I walked up to him reluctantly.

My senses relaxed a little when I saw his side profile.

Cain was sitting inside the purplish water. Its appearance gave the feeling of silk. His back was resting against one of the rocks surrounding the hot spring. His one leg was bent at the knee and the other seemed stretched wide. He was holding his sword in-between them.

He was in his other form.

I felt no fear while looking at him. My heart pounded with something else. The bandages were gone from his upper torso and I suppose lower one too. There remained no wounds or marks on his skin.

“I’m sorry if I disturbed you.” I frowned at the steamy purple water. “I’ll leave.”

“Come here,” Cain said in his gruff voice. I complied silently and climbed my way to him carefully. Cain glanced at me sideways when I sat close behind him. “What are you doing here?”

“I didn’t find you in bed,” I replied awkwardly.

“It’s not safe to wander here alone,” The heaviness of his voice sent weird sensations all over my body. “Stay. I’m almost done.”

“What are you doing?” I frowned in confusion.

The purple water glowed wherever it touched Cain’s body and the blade of his sword before being absorbed into them.

“What is this?” Cain grabbed my hand to stop me from touching it.

“Don’t touch it,” he warned. “It will consume you.”

“What is this?” I asked curiously.

“It’s better if you don’t know.” Cain got up and faced me.

He was stark naked.

I looked away immediately with burning cheeks.

But I saw it alright.

My heart started thundering when he got out and sat next to me.

“Why didn’t you ask Einar to heal it?” Cain pulled my face back and touched my neck. I was glad he wore lowers or I would have fainted right now.

“It was not that deep.” I couldn’t tell him that I wanted him to heal me.

Cain pulled off the bandage carefully and tilted my neck to have a better look.

“You were stupid,” he murmured.

“You were reckless,” I retorted.

His eyes bore into mine through the curtain of his stray locks. I was drowning in the ferocity of his gaze.

“You are not scared?” Cain asked without breaking the hold of his intense gaze on me.

“No,” I whispered.

My lips parted slightly when Cain pushed my hair back and cupped my neck with one hand. His face inched closer ever so slowly and I found my eyes closing when he was just a mere breath away.

“I’m sorry,” I murmured.

“For what?” Cain asked huskily. My heart pounded furiously when my lips brushed his coarse mouth. “Are you repulsed now?”

“No,” I replied honestly. “I know you are angry. I shouldn’t have trusted Logan.”

“What makes you think that I’m angry?” Cain caressed my cheek with the back of his hand. “Aren’t I after the same thing as them?” He cupped my cheek and tilted my face so I was looking at him instead of his chest. “Why choose me?”

“I don’t know,” I shook my head. “Maybe because you never hide your intentions behind sugar-coated lies?” His eyes darkened at my answer. “Or maybe I’m being a fool into believing that you may find a middle ground for both of us.”

“You are hoping too much from a monster,” Cain muttered darkly. “I haven’t forgotten anything.”

“I know,” I smiled bitterly and looked at his chest. “Wow,” I whispered to myself while observing his ashy blue skin and the hollow ridges. “Can I touch it?” I asked innocently. “I want to see how it feels.”

I took his silence as a yes and let my hands roam over his upper torso. My heart was close to bursting because of all the excitement and adrenaline. My body was turning lava and restless.

I grabbed his right hand and ran my fingers over its hard skin.

“It feels like an armored glove,” I whispered in awe. “What happened that day?” I looked up at him. “What happened to Hannah?”

“You are not going to ask me again why I killed her?” Cain taunted.

“I was not in my senses,” I responded calmly. “She wanted to talk to both of us. Why would you kill her then?”

“Maybe, I didn’t like what she said” Cain sneered and pulled his hand out of my grasp. “Don’t push your luck too much.”

I watched him calmly.

“Damn you, Ana” Cain pulled my face closer to his by my hair. I watched in awe when his form shifted back to normal. “Damn you to hell.”

I shuddered when he buried his head in my neck and his nose skimmed over its length feverishly.

“You didn’t kill her, right?” I asked breathlessly when his lips connected to my injury. “Please, I want to know what happened to her.” I fought my moans when Cain kissed his way up my jaw and to the corner of my mouth.

“Catsya got to her,” Cain murmured against my lips. “Harold and Blue Bloods are working together.”

“So, it was all planned?” I asked in disbelief. “Laurel’s death too? Why would they do this? What did they ever do to them?”

“They won’t stop at this.” Cain sighed and pulled back slightly. “Whatever Hannah wanted to tell us, they didn’t want us to know.”

“What could it be?” I asked him. “There must be something—this is so frustrating.” Cain didn’t say anything in response. He just kept looking at me.

His scorching gaze sent a shiver down my spine.

“I will leave” I gasped loudly when Cain pulled me between his legs and turned me around so my back was to his chest. “What?”

“You owe me,” he murmured in my ear. “And didn’t you say you will do anything I asked?” Cain pulled down the strap of my nightgown and began kissing my left shoulder.

“When?” my cheeks burnt in embarrassment when I looked at him over my shoulder. “You were listening!”

“I told you I never went into a deep sleep.” I bit my lip when Cain kissed behind my ear. “So you will do anything, huh?” His mouth moved to my right shoulder.

My heart thudded against my chest when the front of the nightgown fell lower on my breasts. His hands moved over my collarbones and lowered over my swells while his mouth burnt my skin with open-mouth kisses.

“I-” I stuttered incoherently. “What are you–” I threw my head on his shoulder when he cupped my right breast and squeezed it.

“What’s with this nightwear?” Cain whispered seductively in my ear.

“It’s Clarissa’s,” I moaned. “She gave it to me because I had no spare–” I cried out in pleasure when Cain cupped my left breast and began massaging both of them sensually.

“Have you ever been touched, Ana?” I fisted his thigh when his fingers skimmed over my nipples. “In any way?”

“N-no,” I said breathlessly. “Never.” I looked at him hazily when he turned me slightly. “I-” I moaned heavily when his mouth took the place of his left hand. “Cain!” I cried his name when he sucked and licked my tender nipples one by one.

“Why?” My body writhed in his hold when his hand reached for the hem of my gown. I put my hand on his to stop him from climbing any higher. “You want me to stop?” Cain whispered against my lips. “You stop me then.”

I threw my head back when his fingers teased my core. Cain drove me over the edge and then pulled back. I couldn’t tell whether my cries were to stop him or to beg him to continue.

My senses were muddled and completely drowned in him.

It was frustrating and embarrassing but it felt so good, whatever he did with his hands and mouth.

I was in heaven and hell simultaneously.

I gasped loudly when Cain threw me on the soft mattress of his bed. He climbed on top of me and kissed me full on the mouth. My hands went to his hair and I tugged on them hard when his tongue plundered every corner of my mouth.

“You want this?” His gaze pierced my soul with burning intensity. I dug my nail in his back when Cain kissed me all over my face and moved down to my neck before coming back to my lips for another rough and aggressive kiss. “Tell me you want it.”

“I-” I struggled to breathe and speak. “I want you.”

Cain kissed me again deeply and passionately. I never let anyone come this close to me before so I didn’t know this felt so Goddamn good.

Or maybe it was Cain.

He ripped the measly gown off my body and took off his lowers. I didn’t look away and let my eyes soak in his masculinity. The mere sight tingled my skin with something electrifying.

“Fuck, Ana,” Cain pulled me up and made me straddle his lap. “I wanted this.” I buried my face in his shoulder and threaded my fingers in his hair when his hands and mouth filled me with unbearable pleasures. “So fucking good.”

“Cain,” I moaned.

“Ana,” Cain grunted when I pushed him back. I kissed his neck and shoulders and moved down to his chest. I couldn’t stop myself from exploring his hard contours.

He was the epitome of perfection.

“Fuck!” He pushed himself up on his elbows and pulled my head back by a fistful of my hair. “You want to play?” Cain nipped on my chin.

I gasped when he rolled us around and kissed me senselessly.

“Oh, I am going to show you what happens when you play with fire.” Cain flipped me on my front. He pushed my hair aside and kissed my spine down its length.

Everywhere he touched me, it burnt. It burnt me to the point that I couldn’t stop myself from screaming his name loudly. Cain drove me to the edge of ecstasy over and again.

My legs were throbbing for him and I couldn’t take this teasing anymore.

“Let me know if it hurts,” Cain kissed my left wrist. He entwined our hands and held them on either side of my head. “Do you want it?” He asked me again.

“Yes,” I replied. My breaths quickened and my body pulsed when Cain positioned himself between my legs. He kissed me deeply and I wound my arms around his neck when he let go of my hands and pulled me up against him.

“I’m going to fuck you senseless, Ana” Cain said devilishly while looking into my eyes. “I’m going to fuck you so hard that you will forget the difference between day and night.”
