Chapter Forty four.
" Finally, some peace and quiet." I muttered as I entered my dorm room. Rose and Ara were out training so I had the entire dorm to myself. I entered my room and pulled out a box from underneath my bed.
The journal felt warm in my hands as I lifted it from the box. The journal started humming like it usually did whenever I carried it. I involuntarily shivered.
' What ever this book is, it contains something powerful.' I concluded as I finally found the courage to open the book.
It took me awhile to comprehend the spells that were written in the journal. But when I finally did, I dropped the book like a hot potato.
Breathe Iris,
Breathe.
Liber Tenebris Magicae.
The book of dark magic.
I picked the journal up with shaky fingers and sat on my bed. I opened the journal again and brushed through it. It was filled with spells, as old as time. Dangerous spells. But it also had bits and pieces of dark information about every single supernatural to ever walk the face of the Earth.
" Oh." I whispered as I stroked the delicate pages.
" What am I going to do with you?"
There's only one thing to do,
Read.
And so I started reading.
I had just learnt how to blood bend using my water elements when I heard a door creaking. I walked out of my room to see Ara in our lounge.
" Hey Ara."
" Hey Iris, have you by any chance seen my journal?"
" Journal?"
" Yeah, it's small and leather bound- you know what, maybe I should check your room. I think I left it in there."
I suddenly remembered that the journal was still wide open on my bed and stopped her.
" I doubt it but I'll check for you. You should go, you don't want to be late for your next training session."
She wanted to object, but then she paused,
" You're probably right. Alright, bye."
" Yeah bye."
" Well that was close." I muttered the instant she closed the door behind her. I went into my room and stared at the book on my bed.
'You should tell Malika about this.' The rational part of me mused.
' So she can do what with it exactly?' The impulsive part of me countered.
I closed the journal and placed it back in the box before sliding it under the bed.

I got bows as I walked through the school. I rolled my eyes at their stubbornness. No matter how many times I emphasized the pointless of bowing, they still wouldn't quit.
Every single person in the school was training. School work had stopped, the war was more important. Magicians werr more powerful, but we were certainly not going down without a fight.
I never interrupted the training sessions, I merely observed. I cracked a small smile each time one of the guardians barked at our soon to be soldiers.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
They were acting just like me.
" Iris." I heard Cole call so I walked over to him.
" Good afternoon Coach Hernandez." I teased and he chuckled.
" How's training?"
" I finally understand how you felt when you were training us." He deadpanned.
" Oh come on!, They can't be that bad." I said jokingly but a part of me hoped he would admit they were doing okay.
" They're not."
I sighed in relief
" I don't blame them though, there's a lot of pressure on them."
" I know." I whispered.
He looked down at me and smiled. He took my hand and squeezed it slightly.
" We'll be fine."
" I hope so."
" Okay, how 'bout this evening we go out. Wherever you want. Just you and I. We need time for ourselves you know." He said brushing back my hair.
" I'd love that." I replied and he grinned.
" Gotta go." He kissed my forehead before jogging back to his trainees.
I stood there staring at him whilst grinning like a fool.
He always knows how to make me feel better.

" Where was I?" I muttered as I continued reading the journal. There were some helpful tips and spells, but there were also spells that I was never gonna try. Ever!
I set the journal down to pick a bottle of water from the mini fridge in my room. I turned to see the pages flipping on their own accord.
Well that wasn't weird at all.
It stopped on what seemed like a centre spread page. I spread the pages and gulped.
Et cor caritate.
My eyes skimmed through the words till they landed on one sentence in particular.
This spell is the only way of reversing the . It is a unique spell that can be used by anyone, magician or not. But, it can only be tried once. If casted wrongly on the first trial, that is the end. The spell requires a strong and pure heart and is a true test of love.
I read the spell over and over again till I had it memorised. I read the risk again and gulped
If I do it, Austin lives. But I-
" Hey Iris I-"
Rose barged into my room but before I could put up my walls, she had slipped into my mind.
" No."
" Rose."
" Iris no!"
" It's not your call. There's nothing you can say to change my mind. You can't stop me."
" But I know people who can."
She turned to leave but I stopped her.
" Prohibere!"
She froze.
" Iris let me go!"
" Rose, I can't. I'm sorry."
" I could've sworn I saw something on secrets in here." I muttered as I flipped through the pages of the journal.
" Iris."
" Clavis est ad secretum servandum in silentio."
I reversed my first spell and she shuddered.
" What did you just do?"
" I made you sure that it stays a secret between us. I'm sorry Rose, but I can't have you ruining my plan.
I picked up the journal and left the room.

" This is nice." Cole said entwining our hands as we took a walk round the school.
" Yeah."
" Cole!" Someone yelled, I turned to see Rose and I sighed.
" What's up?"
" Cole I have to tell you something very important."
" Okay, what is it?"
" Yes Rose, what is it?" I questioned slightly raising an eyebrow.
" I-I-I-, I…uh-"
" Rose what is it?"
" I still sleep with my stuffed animal!" She blurted out then slapped her hands over her mouth.
I smirked and Rose glared.
The spell works.
" Well I personally wouldn't count that as important but thank you for telling me that embarrassing truth." Cole replied barely holding back his laughter.
" You're welcome." She gritted out in reply.
***
" I have something for you." Cole said bringing out a necklace.
" Cole, it's beautiful." I breathed out.
" You like it?"
" Like it?, I love it. Thank you."
I kissed him and felt him smile into the kiss.
" Try it on."
" Yes sir." I replied cheekily.
He helped me with the clasps of the necklace and smiled.
" See, it matches your eyes."
He pointed at the lilac coloured diamond pendant and I smiled softly.
" Cole this is-"
" I have one too." He said bringing his out. His was attached to the dog tag necklace he always wore.
" Mine glows when you touch yours and vice versa. I got the necklace but I also had a little help from Seb."
" You didn't have to."
" I know, I know, but you've been working so hard that I decided you needed a treat."
" Oh and I almost forgot, double tap the pendant."
" Why-"
" Just do it."
" I see my bossiness is rubbing off on you." I mused as I double tapped the gemstone. It got warm and then a light burst from the rear end. It was a projection of our memories. Every single one of them, from how we met, to our first kiss, till a couple hours ago.
I wiped the tears that had escaped my eyes.
" Those are happy tears, right?"
Oh Cole.
I hugged him tightly in silence.
I'm sorry Cole,
I'm so sorry.
