Chapter CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
I feel my phone buzzing against my butt inside my back pocket as Samael and I walk away from the Bay Theater. Somehow, he had got it into his head that he would be able to find his Pure Soul inside the building hence the reason for the amulets clinking in my front left pocket of my torn jeans. It was of course a bust and I could have told him before we ever walked into the place that he wouldn’t find that soul inside but if I did that then I would have to inform him that I had indeed found his soul ‘completing’ my mission for him. Since I had sworn to myself that I wouldn’t let him know about who Cassie really is, I diligently followed him inside.
Together we wandered through the lobby going into different corridors, rooms until we found ourselves in the back of the auditorium. “Were you told what to look for while searching for this human soul of yours?” I ask as I am slowly becoming bored with this task. “You know like we should be keeping an eye out for a specific type of male or a specific type of female?” I lean against one of the theater seats, crossing my arms and looking at him pointedly as I do so.
“No, Rim, no specific details were given to me. That is why I had you bring the amulets with us. So, if you would be so kind as to remove them from under your shirt, then maybe we could move things along a little quicker...” Sam replies with a bit of brashness in his voice.
“Dude, chill,” I say raising my hands in mock surrender. “I just meant there must be something we can do to be able to find the ‘Pure Soul’ that doesn’t require us walking up to every single person we see and wave the amulets in front of them to see if they are ‘The One’? I sigh frustrated with him.
“Right. Well, this is what we’ve got to work with at the moment so we will just have to make do. Follow me down towards the front where those groups are milling about on that stage. If the amulets don’t show any signs, then we’ll be on our way, okay.” Samael doesn’t even give me a chance to say anything before he is marching down the aisle way. With another sigh escaping my lips, I follow him, already knowing nothing will come of his search. Grumbling louder and louder as we walk by the little groups of humans, I hear Sam growl out his frustration before saying, “whatever, let us take leave of this place,” and then turning on his heels, I watch as he stomps out of the building.
Grabbing my phone from my back pocket as I walk out into the afternoon sun, I squint my eyes to keep the glare low as I try to see who has messaged me. My heart skips a beat as I see Cassie’s name. Swiping the screen to open, I see that she sent me a text to let me know that she was done hanging out with her friends and that I could come by and ‘visit’ her if I wanted to. I shoot her a quick text to let her know that I’m almost done with my errands and hope to see her very soon. Unfortunately, as I hit send, Samael happens to look back at me just then, catching the cheesy grin that is plastered from ear to ear upon my face. “Might I ask what has caused that hideous grin to take hold of your face?”
Hesitating for a decent answer to give him so that I don’t trigger his suspicion, I take my time replying, “oh apparently being around humans has caused me to take on some of their characteristics,” I force a laugh and push my fingers through my hair. “Cassie sent me a text telling me I could come over if I wanted to, that’s all. I’ve no idea why I keep getting this grin. I can’t seem to get control over it. It comes and goes as it pleases.” To my surprise I hear him genuinely laughing at my answer.
“Those times before when I was saying you were in love, I was joking but seeing your face now, I can’t believe I was right. You really are in love with that chick!”
I want to growl at him for calling her chick but instead I mutter, “whatever.” Shaking my head I add, “you’ve no idea what you’re talking about dude. That’s just ridiculous.”
“Yeah, okay. You’re deluding yourself if you really don’t think you’re in love. But something tells me you know you are.” Standing next to an empty bench, he stares at me. “I’ll swing by your place tonight; I’ve got a job that just popped up that I’ve got to go attend to.” And then with a nod of his head, and a poof! he is gone from sight.
Thank the stars above, I think to myself and then mutter, “at least now I don’t have to think of an excuse to leave him so I can have Cassie come to my house and meet my dad.”
I stopped over at Cassie’s place first figuring I could walk her to my place a bit later as I had a feeling my father would show up around seven o’clock that night. Which would give me plenty of time to visit with her at her place and then even be able to grab a bite to eat. I grin at the naughty thoughts that flit through my mind of all the things we could do before getting food and am not able to control the smile as it consumes my face and of course I am standing at her door having knocked at the same time.
Seriously I love the fact that she shares my dorky grin. She’s the cutest thing imaginable! “Hey handsome,” Cassie says as she opens her door and tilts her head against it. “What you up to...”
Leaning my head into her ‘space’ and kissing her, I respond with my lips against hers; “Nothing at the moment. What are you doing? Hmm.” She smiles against my mouth but instead of answering my question, Cassie grasps a handful of my tee-shirt, fisting it in her right hand before yanking me through the doorway.
I laugh as I stumble through, trying to catch my balance I take hold of her, wrapping her into an embrace before tumbling into the wall, taking the brunt of my fall against my left arm and bicep. “I can honestly say I’ve never had a greeting quite like that before Cass!”
“Well, I can say I have never greeted someone that way before. A first for us both!” She wiggles out from between the walls and my hold on her before making her way into the kitchen. “But really, did you have any thoughts on how we should spend our time this afternoon, evening?” Her back side is to me as she sticks her head into the fridge before reappearing with a flavored water in her hand. “Oops, forgot to ask if you wanted something to drink?”
Shaking my head no I watch as she grabs a cup from a cupboard and pours a portion of the water into it. “I spoke to my father earlier and I’m pretty sure he will be at my place around 7 tonight so there’s that but as for the next three and a half hours...” I maneuver around her kitchen island until there isn’t an ounce of space left between us. “We do need to make up for what we had begun to do this morning.”
Cassie tilts her head back slightly, so she has a better view of my face, “ah, that we do!” She absent-mindedly sits her cup on the counter behind her before snaking both arms around my waist, pulling me even closer to her than I already am. I groan against her lips as she begins to walk forward causing me to walk backwards and being able to do nothing more than trust that she will guide me safely into her bedroom.
Hearing the chime of my phone I begrudgingly roll myself away from Cassie. We had fallen into a bliss filled slumber after having spent two passionate hours making up for the time, we hadn’t spent together this morning. Slowly we found ourselves snuggling into each other before happily drifting off to sleep. As I question why my phone is chiming, I realized quickly that it wasn’t a notification sound but my alarm going off. Picking the phone up from Cassie’s nightstand I see the time as it lights up on my screen. “Shit Cass! We’ve got to get up. We have roughly twenty minutes to get dressed and head over to my place before my father arrives.”
Cassie groans but hops out of the bed, “I’m going to take a quick shower, care to join me?” I stare at her as lust fills my eyes, but I swiftly squelch the urge to follow her into her bathroom.
“No-o-o-o,” I draw out the O. “If I join you, we definitely won’t make it on time.” She pushes her lips out in a pout, turning away from me, the water is turned on and then Cassie closes the door. To my surprise her shower truly is a quick one. I, having already put my own clothes back on, am perched on the edge of her bed when I hear the bathroom door open ten minutes later and see her saunter back into the bedroom. Since her body is only being hidden from my view by a white cotton towel, I stand, “I’m going to go out to the living room and wait for you there while you dress.”
Cassie laughs at me as I walk towards her door, “are you serious? You’ve already seen me naked. I don’t care if you stay in here while I get dressed.”
“If I see your naked body right now, we will have a problem because I will want to ravish it and we do not have the time for that. No, it is much wiser for me to wait out there.” Giving her a wink, I turn and walk out of her room, making sure to shut her door as I do so. Five minutes later she walks out and asks, “does this look okay? I want to look nice when I meet your dad.” She looks more than nice. She is model gorgeous.
She spins around once for me and then looks at me expectantly. Cassie has decided to wear a cream-colored dress that has a bo-ho/hippie vibe about it. She has sparkly flip-flops on and had put her hair up into a messy bun. I have to force my hands to stay at my sides as my eyes scan her legs. They are so soft and smooth that desire stirs in the pit of my stomach and my fingers tingle at the thought of skimming them along her luscious skin. “You are beyond beautiful. You look like an angel. My dad is going to love you!”
Smiling widely at me, she gives me a kiss and then sticking her hand out to me, she takes hold of my hand, pulling me up from her grey couch. “Alright, are you ready to go then?” Cassie releases a nervous breath before nodding her head yes. She then takes my hand in hers, entwining our fingers together before we leave her apartment.
