Soul Searcher Book 1

Chapter CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

After taking a few sips from her mug of coffee, Cassie leaning against her kitchen counter eyeing me. “What’s your plans for the day?” She questioned right before taking the last gulp.

Peering over the rim of my own cup I gaze at her for a moment before giving her a grimacing smile (of sorts). “Unfortunately, I promised I’d meet up with Samael today. We have some business to attend to while he’s down here.” Glancing at the digital clock on her stove, I realize I am supposed to be catching up with him in half an hour’s time. “Unless you don’t want me to. I can totally see if he and I can meet up later instead.”

Shaking her head no, Cassie responds with “no, no that’s fine. I was thinking of seeing if Ginny and Khloe wanted to go have lunch with me. Ya know, have some girl time together.”

Nodding my head okay, I give her a quick peck on the lips. “Right. Well then, I better run over to my place so I can shower and put some clean clothing on. Do you want to meet up tonight?” I’ve never felt the need to be around someone constantly like I do with Cassie. I feel more complete when I’m in her presence. With that thought in my head, I make a mental note to reach out to my father to see if he can explain why this might be.

Before I could stop myself, I blurt out, “I think I’d like you to meet my father... Would that be okay with you?”

Cassie’s eyes look like two large blue sapphire’s as they go wide in surprise. Tripping over her words she attempts to say, “your-your, father? A real, live angel? You want me to meet your father? I would, I would be honored.” She jumps into my arms, making me wrap them around her so she can hug me.

“Yeah? All right then. I’ll reach out to him and see if he will be able to come visit me. I’ll let you know, okay?” The stupid grin is plastered from ear to ear upon my face and I know I look like a dork, but I don’t really care at the moment since the same grin is on her face too.

Tipping my head down so my lips can meet hers for a more proper kiss compared to the first kiss I had given her in goodbye, Cassie places her hands on either side of my face to keep me immobile for a few seconds longer before pushing me away with a smile and saying, “go, go. I will see you later. Text me if you find yourself bored.” Nodding my head okay, I give her a little wave at the door and then walk out of her apartment to go back to my place.

Having thrown on a pair of black jeans after getting out of the shower, I pad barefoot across the grey carpet as I rub a white cotton towel against my head in an attempt to get my hair dried faster since I am not in possession of a hairdryer. Pulling open one of the dresser drawers I had stowed my belongings in, I rifle through the articles of clothing for a tee-shirt and a pair of socks. As I slip my sneakers on, my phone vibrates against my leg on the bed. One guess who would be sending me a text right now... I pick it up and tap the screen to see Samael’s name flash on it. Bring the amulets the witch gave you and meet me at the Bay theater. I have an idea so you can complete your task for me. ~S~

Groaning I sigh dramatically to myself before sending him an ‘okay’ in response. I know I need to tell him that I’ve already found his ‘Pure Soul’, but I haven’t thought of any alternatives for Sam to become human and there is no way in Hell, I’m allowing him to get his hands on Cassie. Remembering I wanted to get in contact with my dad, I sit on the floor and closing my eyes, reach out to him through the mental link we share. If I can convince him to visit, maybe I can see if he knows of any solutions to my dilemma.

“Rim, what a lovely surprise. What might be the cause of this visit? You do not usually contact me more than once a month. Not that I mind, just curious.” My father’s eyes light up at my intrusion upon his mental state and I offer him a smile.

“Hey dad. I was wondering if you’d be able to do a visit on earth? There’s someone I’d like you to meet?” Lucian considers my request for just a moment but once he looks into my eyes and can see the hopefulness within them, he concedes.

“I can pop in later this evening if that will work for you? Where are you staying?” I see a twinkle in his eyes and a curious grin grace his lips as he awaits my response.

The laughter in his eyes has me asking ‘what?’ and shaking my head. Before he is able to reply though, I give him the address of my beach rental and then hearing the distant sound of my phone buzzing, inform him that I have to dash but that I look forward to seeing him tonight. Releasing the mental connection with him, I turn my head and reach out for my phone which I had placed down by my left thigh on the area rug where I sit. Where R U? ~S~, the text message flashes across the screen as I open it. On my way. Hitting send, I sigh loudly before pushing myself up from the floor. With keys in hand, I leave my apartment and make my way over to the Bay Theater.

Cassie sat on one of the red plastic covered cushions in a corner booth of the 50’s Café. She scanned the menu pretending to read it as she waited for Khloe and Ginny to arrive. Both girls walked in together, smiling and laughing at something they had said outside before heading in. Khloe spotted Cassie first and waved a hand hello as they quickly made their way over to join her. After taking their seats, Cassie asked, “so... Did you guys have fun last night?

“What we should be doing is asking if you had a fun night since you disappeared on us last night,” Ginny waggled her eyebrows suggestively at Cassie before giving her a wide grin as well. Cassie’s face flushed with tints of pink and red at the question but instead of answering, she rolled her eyes before allowing a mischievous twinkle to settle in them. Just then the waitress interrupted them as she came and sat their drinks down on the table.

After putting her straw into her cup of soda, Khloe asked with a shyness Cassie was surprised to hear in her voice; “hey, what do you know about Samael? He’s so different from other guys in this town. There’s a uniqueness about him that I just can’t pinpoint.”

Caught off guard by her question, Cassie choked slightly on the coke she had in her mouth. “Oh, uh, um. I probably know about as much as you do about the guy. I just know he’s a longtime friend of Rim’s.” She could see disappointment flicker in both Khloe’s and Ginny’s eyes, and she stared back at them in shock. “Don’t tell me you BOTH are interested in him?” They burst out laughing as they watch Cassie’s expressions turn from surprise to shock.

“Why are you so surprised? He’s hot as hell and looks like a vampire. Plus, he has a mysteriousness about him making him all the more alluring. Of course, we both are interested in him.”

“I don’t think he’s a very good guy you two. I suggest you both stay as far away from him as you can. I know the bad boy persona is appealing but he is genuinely a real bad dude.” As Cassie tells them this, her eyes go wide in eagerness to urge them to listen to her. Khloe and Ginny, however, begin to laugh instead at how serious Cassie’s voice sounds. Knowing she wasn’t going to win the argument; she takes a bite out of her cheeseburger as the waitress had just placed the food down in front of them.

Once they were done eating the girls stood to leave the restaurant when Cassie’s notification chimed on her cell. Seeing it was an email, she stopped walking so she could read it. The incoming message was from the reporter she had messaged forever ago or so it felt. “Are you coming?” She heard Ginny shout a few feet away from her. Glancing up from her screen she waved her off.

“I’ll see you guys later. I’ve got, I’ve got an errand to run.” Quickly she turned in the opposite direction so she could go to her apartment. Once inside, she grabbed her laptop and opened it, powering it on so that she could read the email on a larger screen. “Finally,” she mutters to herself as her email page loads. Clicking on the one unread message, she began to read: Dear Miss Arryn,

Thank you for reaching out to me. Apologies for the delayed response. I feel it may be easier to chat with you in person than try to convey via email what all occurred during the investigation into the explosion at the hospital. If you are free this coming Saturday, (two days from now) I would love to meet with you and go into more depth about what I know. Again, thank you. Tanya Wolf

Giddy excitement swirls throughout Cassie’s body at the thought of being able to have her questions answered. Without hesitation she began to compose a response back letting Tanya know she would love to meet with her and discuss the topic at hand. She asked what time and where they should meet before signing it and hitting send. Joyously she jumped up and down a couple of times well aware that she looked like a fool to passersby. At that moment though she couldn’t have cared less about the strangers who might have witnessed her ‘bizarre’ dance of sorts. Stuffing her phone into her back pocket of her faded jean skirt, she quickly headed back to her place.

Closing the door behind her, Cassie pulled her phone back out and sent a text to Rim letting him know she was done hanging out with the girls and back at her own apartment if he felt like coming by for a visit.
