Soul Mate: A Novella

Chapter 11

Ch. 11 Khloe

When I get home, I am going to have a complete mental breakdown or freak out. For the moment though, I’m proud for how well I’m pretending to handle this information. I will admit that I love feeling the little jolt of electricity that runs through my hand and up my arm when Sam touches me and I’m very curious to find out what could happen should we kiss. At the moment though I push that thought aside as Sam walks me out of Cassie’s apartment and down to my car. I unlocked the door to my powder blue Fiat my parents had given to me for my ‘sweet 16’ a few years back but for some reason I hadn’t opened the driver’s door yet. “So where do we go from here?” I ask as I lean against my car door and gaze into Samael’s hypnotic eyes.

Sam shrugs his shoulders as he stares into my honey-brown eyes releasing a slow breath of air. Chuckling he says, “I honestly have no idea what happens next. I do know I’d like to have a real date with you though... One uninterrupted by crazy talk, where we can pretend to be normal, or at least I can pretend to be normal for a night...”

I smile, “I think I would like that,” I say in reply as I tip my head back slightly as Samael leans to me and I think, finally! The kiss I’ve been hoping for is going to happen! But at the last second, he shifts his lips from mine to my forehead resting them there briefly and I sigh in disappointment. Before he pulls away, I hear him whisper ‘soon’ and I give a barely noticeable nod of my head and whisper back, “okay.” He steps back and offers a faint smile.

“I’ve got your number so I’ll give you a text tomorrow and we can set up that date.” Saying okay once more we say good night and I hop into my car. Putting the key into the ignition I turned on the engine, backing out of the parking spot I had been in and glanced up to wave goodbye to Sam only to see him disappear into the shadows, literally! My mouth falls open in surprise to see him physically do this and I sit with my foot on the break in reverse, stunned for a moment. Shaking my head to rid myself of the shock coursing through me, I put my car into drive and go home.

Beyond tired I’m barely able to say hello let alone goodnight to my parents before trudging lethargically up the steps and into my bedroom. Leaning my entire body against the ash-white oak of the door, I manage to shut it and then push myself slowly away from it and stumble over to my bed where not even bothering to shove the blankets aside, I flop face first onto the bedding and fall asleep.

Dreams, if I had any I don’t remember them when I’m finally able to stir from my slumber. I take a shower then go into the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee. Lost in thought, I stare out the window above the kitchen sink as I contemplate what Samael and I could do on our date. Picking up my phone which I had laid on the kitchen counter while I made myself coffee, I sent Sam a text suggesting we could go to Broadway at the Beach since there are tons of things to do there and where he could most definitely be ‘normal’ for a night. Within seconds I receive a reply from him and smile at the screen as I see in all caps ‘YES’.

With a squeal I bounce up and down on my feet a couple of times and then write back to him suggesting 6p.m. for a meet up time. Once we agree on the time I hop into my car and drive out to the Star-Sky venue to help Cassie and Ginny do inventory and prep the back room for a catering team that would be utilizing the space to serve a band who had our entire venue sold out in under 10 minutes! Me and the girls talk excitedly about the prospect of meeting the members of the band. Squeals and giggles may have been involved in between the chattering but can you blame us, we are only 19 and twenty-ish, respectively.

Minutes after the catering has been set up, the band Falling in Reverse arrive and come inside to scope the place out. We totally fangirl them but get the urge out of our system quickly as we still have a job to do, and we do our best to get the guys comfortable before their sound check.

Roughly an hour later our sound dude arrives and begins to work with the band and their sound check. In between the noise Brian plays his playlist for us to listen to and me and the girls’ goof around singing obnoxiously to the songs that come on.
