Chapter Attack At The Sanctuary
I felt my blood begin to boil and excitement rush through me at the possibility of a fight. This was the reason I had come along, and I was feeling pretty damn disappointed that there weren't any hunters. Luckily, the universe granted me my wish.
"Hello, boys." I called, lifting my hand with a smile. "I'm glad to see you here!"
Instead of responding, the hunters placed their fingers on the triggers of the weapons. It seemed that they were the quiet, stoic type. Good, those were my favorites.
"I see you want to play with me as much as I want to play with you." I giggled, taking a small step forward.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Glancing over my shoulder, I looked into Ivan’s annoyed eyes. When did he arrive?
"Picking fights with the enemy.” He continued, seeming oblivious to the danger at hand. "Is this another one of your attempts at death?”
Rolling my eyes, I looked away and met the eyes of one of the hunters. His dark brown eyes shone with fear, and his hand quivered ever so slightly. From the way he was poised, I knew that he was newer and decided he would be my first victim.
Clenching my fists, I let my knuckles pop as I readied to attack. It's best not to announce and just move.
Smirking, I rushed forward and grabbed the newbie hunter, catching him by surprise. As his buddies attempted to stop me, Ivan moved next, grabbing at whichever was closest to him.
Grabbing my opponent's head on either side, I lifted and gave a jerk, snapping his neck cleanly. He was too easy, and I found myself disappointed by how easy it was. Turning, I found my next opponent and hoped that he would give more of a fight.
Chaos erupted around the room as Hans appeared, followed by the remaining elders. Though the elders remained in place, Hans surged forward and jumped into the fight.
Arrows exploded from weapons as I attacked another hunter, sinking my teeth into his neck, while my nails dug into his flesh. The smell of fresh blood tickled my nose, driving me to draw more. Goddess, it was so intoxicating and I could never get enough of it. I guess that was the result of growing up a killer. Now that I knew the smell, it had become a comfort for me. It was the only thing that reminded me I was alive, since I was numb to pain.
"Let go." The hunter I was fighting growled, lifting his weapon in an attempt to slam it against my back. "You psycho bitch.”
"Thank you.” I purred, taking another bite and pulling his flesh cleanly off. "Because you were so sweet to compliment me, I'll make this quick.”
The hunter's eyes grew wide as I pushed my hand against the center of his chest. With little to no effort, I easily felt the bones beneath my palm beginning to snap until I was sure they were breaking and stabbing into his lungs.
With a gasp, the hunter's mouth opened, allowing blood to spurt out and stain my skin.
"Bye bye." I laughed, stepping back and watching as he gasped for air on the floor.
"Hey, vicious woman! * Ivan called, drawing my attention from the hunter that was unmoving at my feet. "Get the elders out of here!"
"Do I have to?" I whined, placing my hands on my hips. "They are assholes and think I'm an omen. Can't you do it while I stay and fight? *
Grabbing his opponent's throat, Ivan twisted, snapping it before setting his blazing gaze on me. "Hans and I can handle this." He huffed in irritation. "Get them out!"
"Uncle," I sighed, shaking my head. "I think you forget that I don’t take commands from you or anyone else."
For a moment, Ivan glared at me, not speaking. But soon his lips twitched into a terrifying smile.
"I'll punish you when we get back to the estate.” He chuckled, flipping a hunter over his shoulder who attempted a sneak attack. "Now, get those old men out!"
Letting a growl escape me, I took one more look at the fighting ahead of me. Hans and Ivan had all but managed to kill all the hunters, and the fight would soon be over.
"Fine, I'll take the children out.” I hissed.
Stepping over the dead hunter at my feet, I made my way over to the elders, who were huddled together by the entrance to their safe room.
"Stay back, omen!" Elder Gregory growled as I approached.
"Cut the shit." I countered. "I'm taking you to safety. Follow me."
"Why should we do that?" Elder Gregory asked, looking at the other two elders that stood on either side of him. "I'm sure if we were to do anything you say, we would end up dead.”
"Right, that's exactly what I want.” I laughed, feeling my anger beginning to rise. "However, that guy over there,” I continued, motioning towards Ivan. "He has requested that I take all of you out of here and to safety.”
I waited as Elder Gregory continued to just stare at me. It was clear by the hesitance in his eyes that he didn't trust me in the slightest. Good, that meant that we were on the same page with that. "Come on." I sighed, lifting my hand and motioning for the men to follow. "We will go back to Ivan's estate and wait for him."
Since Hans and Ivan had things under control here, it wouldn't take long for them to make their way back. I wouldn't have to spend much time alone with the elders.
To my surprise, the elders began to follow me past the fighting and out of the chapel, into the destroyed entryway of the sanctuary. They looked around in disgust as they took in the damage and gore that had been spread around their home.
"Goddess," Elder Gregory puffed from too closely behind me. "This was a massacre.”
"You don't say.” I shot back, rolling my eyes. "Wait til you see outside.”
If he thought this was a lot, how would he react to Elder lan hanging at the door and the shredded bodies that scattered the grounds? I had to admit, I was pretty intrigued and found myself hoping that they would get sick from the sight. It would bring me so much joy to see these men show how pathetically useless they truly were. Nothing else could make me happier, except the death of my mother and stepfather, of course.
However, I would have to wait for that. For now, I would just have to bide my time and hope the pervert didn't manage to achieve his goal.
