Chapter 2
Chapter2
When Kara remained silent, Grace’s smile slipped. She’ reached out and fiercely pinched Kara’s little arm. She whispered a warning, “You’d better behave yourself, okay?”
Despite the pain, Kara suppressed her cries and delivered a vicious glare at the mean woman in front of her.
“Rina!” Howard walked over.
Grace’s expression immediately changed as she scooped up Kara. “Rina, come on, Say ‘Daddy.””
Daddy?
Kara cocked her head and regarded Howard with curiosity.
Wow, what a handsome man.
Her eyes shone brightly, and her little face lit up with instant affection. She hurriedly opened up her arms for a hug.
This small action shocked Howard. He knew that Rina had severe autism, so she wasn’t very vocal or that fond of being too close to people.

Was the treatment she received while abroad responsible for such a significant change?
Without further delay, he leaned forward and reciprocated her request for a hug.
Kara nuzzled herself farther into Howard’s embrace.
Whoa, Mr. Handsome smells so nice.
With Rina wanting to be so close to him, Howard found the corners of his mouth quirking up into a tender smile.
“Okay, Rina, come and give Mommy a hug now.” Grace reached out for her.
Hmph!
What a mean woman. I don’t want a hug from you.
Kara clung to Howard’s neck and refused to let go. She shot her a hard glare, forgetting all about being away from her mom and brother.
“Come on, Rina. Be a good girl and let Mommy hug you.”
“Forget it, don’t force her. I’ll just keep holding her.” With Kara still in his arms, Howard began to walk outside with her.

Grace stared at her from afar, a flash of anger igniting her eyes. What a disobedient little mutt.
Meanwhile, Kara tilted her head as she stared up at the man carrying her. Her big eyes made her look even cuter, but they were filled with doubt.
Noticing her gaze, Howard met her eyes and asked gently, “Rina, what’s wrong? Why’re you looking at Daddy like that? Don’t you recognize me?”
Rina?
It was only then that Kara properly registered the name. The mean woman had called her the same thing earlier.
Could they have mistaken her for this Rina person?
But how could parents mix up their own children?
Unless… it couldn’t be that she somehow looked just like Rina, could it?
And Mommy said that only twins look alike. Would that make her and Rina twins?
Was this handsome man actually her Daddy?
Excitement filled her at the thought of finally finding her dad.

She searched the surroundings of the large airport for her mom and Micah, but there was no sign of them.
It wasn’t until she’d gone through the exit that she spotted the two of them. They led a little girl who looked just like her
to a car.
She began to call out before clamping her mouth shut.
No, not yet. I don’t know if this handsome man is actually Daddy. If he isn’t, then I’ll just be happy for nothing. And Mommy and Micah will be very sad too.
I’ll just wait until I can contact Micah and find out about this “Rina” girl.
When Howard saw Kara remaining silent, he followed her line of sight to see what had captured her attention. He looked over at the airport exit that they’d just come out of. However, he couldn’t see anything in particular besides a small black
car.
Meanwhile, at the exit, Jeremy spotted Sally and her children walking out. When they got close enough, he greeted them with a warm smile.
“Sally!”
“Jeremy, hi. I’m so sorry to trouble you,” she said apologetically.

“It’s no trouble at all. We’re business partners after all.”
The two of them exchanged matching grins.
“Uncle Jeremy!” Micah welcomed him as he’d been instructed
to do.
Jeremy reached out to tousle the boy’s hair. “Micah, long time no see.”
He then turned his attention to Kara.
As soon as she locked eyes with him, she instinctively hid behind Sally.
Sally smiled sheepishly.
She could never figure out why Kara didn’t like Jeremy. Every time they met, it was as if he was her daughter’s enemy.
This time, it didn’t seem as bad, so she decided to ignore it for now. Last time, Kara had thrown a tantrum at the sight of him.
“Let’s go then!” Jeremy chuckled helplessly before turning
away.
He heaved their luggage into the trunk.

Once everyone had gotten into the vehicle, Jeremy started
the car. Just as they were pulling away, Howard strode out of the airport with Kara in his arms.
“Sally, take a look at this. This is our quote for our latest batch of drugs.” Jeremy brandished an important-looking document in front of her eyes.
She reached forward and carefully looked over the details.
He let out a laugh. “This is probably the lowest offer that’s ever been made in this country. There’s basically no profit to be made. Are you sure this will help us expand in the Bomsville market?”
“The Brown family is the only major pharmaceutical company in Bomsville right now. Their prices are almost five times the actual cost. If there’s suddenly a much cheaper company, who do you think the pharmacies will choose?” Sally delivered each word with purpose, taking the time to assemble her thoughts.
There wasn’t a hint of warmth in her frozen expression. Despite the slight smile on her face, there was no friendliness behind it.
In response, Jeremy simply smiled and remained silent.
She spoke up again, “If the company experiences losses, just deduct it from my shares.”

“We’ve worked together for so many years. Why is it still so
hard for us to see eye to eye? When you’d said that you wanted to come to Bomsville for development, I’d agreed. You can’t have us split the profits equally and bear the losses on your own. Then what would that make me?”
Even after all this time had passed, she never failed to deliver clear calculations.
Sally cut the conversation off and stopped talking.
Her company shares had been left to her by her aunt.
Her trip back home was to avenge her children and her aunt. She didn’t want her personal grudges to interfere with her interactions with Jeremy.
The car pulled up to a villa, and Jeremy quickly stepped out. He helped to unload all of the luggage that he’d previously stacked so carefully.
“This place belonged to one of my friends. He went abroad to develop his company, so I bought it from him at the lowest price he offered. I wasn’t sure if you’d like it though.”
Sally surveyed the building before her. Although it wasn’t a very big villa, she instantly became fond of the surrounding environment. It was also pretty removed from other people, and she welcomed the quiet that accompanied this.

“Thank you. I do like it here.”
“As long as you like it, that’s good enough for me. I’ll be living in the one next door. Just call me if you need anything.”
She nodded at his kind offer.
“You guys must be tired after a long flight. I’ll leave you alone now so that you can all get some rest.” He quickly said his goodbyes.
After watching Jeremy leave, Sally took each of her children’s hands and entered the house.
It was clear that Jeremy had someone tidy up the place. He never failed to be considerate.
All of the furniture had been brought in and arranged, and the cabinets were stocked with whatever daily necessities one might need. Sally didn’t need to worry about a single thing.
“Micah, Kara, what do you think? Do you like it here?”
Micah nodded, “It’s nice to be with Mommy.”
She laughed at his sweet words.
Rina simply widened her eyes and surveyed the rooms with curiosity.

“What about you, Kara, do you like it too?” Sally asked, glancing over at the quiet girl.
The girl met her eyes with an appreciative look but refused to utter a word.
There was still some fear lingering in her gaze.
Sally regarded her with suspicion. Kara was usually pretty rowdy, so a big moment like this would definitely have her jumping up and down. How could she be so quiet?
“Kara, is your stomach still bothering you?” She guessed that her silence was a result of her not feeling well or having enough energy. She hastily tugged the girl toward her and examined her. She pressed one hand to her forehead while the other gently rubbed her belly.
As Rina observed Sally’s kind caring gestures, the nervousness slowly dissipated from her eyes.
“Can you tell Mommy what’s wrong with your tummy?”
Rina shook her head.
“Mommy, do we need to take Kara to the hospital? She isn’t acting like she usually does,” Micah spoke up worriedly.

Sally’s heart began to race, and she hastily picked up her daughter. “Come on, let’s go to the hospital then.”
At that moment, Rina reached out and tentatively tugged on Sally’s sleeve. “I… It’s okay.”
Finally hearing her speak, a sigh of relief escaped Sally. “You scared Mommy to death. Are you really okay?”
There was still some uneasiness swirling inside her.
The young girl nodded with newfound strength. “Yes!”
“Okay, then I want you to lie down for a little bit. Mommy will make you some porridge to warm you up, okay?”
Rina nodded again.
“Micah, take good care of your sister. Mommy’s going to start making dinner.”
“Go, Mommy. I’ll watch Kara.”
Sally fondly observed her well-behaved children, touched by their understanding. At the same time, she couldn’t help but be reminded of her lost third child. It felt like a knife had been twisted into her heart, slowly being pulled out only to get shoved back in.
If her child had lived, they could’ve been a loving family of four right now.
A tear escaped her eye and traced a path down her cheek. Not wanting to let Micah and Kara see, she hurriedly swiped at her face and turned toward the kitchen.
