Shattered Illusions: Love Lies and Redemption ( Lizetta ) Chapter 346
Chapter 346
Lizette sat on the park bench for what seemed like en eternity before finally pulling out the business card and dialing Jerome’s number. “Me Madden? It’s Lizetta, about the dance troupe, I’ve thought it over, and I want to give it a try
On the other end, Jerome raised an eyebrow, his voice tinged with surprise.
Ms. Gardenia, you’re mon decisive than I anticipated.”
The way Lizetta had been acting, it was clear she’d been through a rough patch emotionally, knocked down but not out.
At the prime of her life, she’d chosen to give up her career and future to marry that man.
Clearly, she was head over heels for him.
It wasn’t hard to guess that she’d spent four years in a relationship and marriage, four years that could have completely derailed a woman’s ambitions
Many women might never recover, opting instead to continue living in comfort without ambition.
When Jerome had offered her the business card, he hadn’t been optimistic about Lizetta’s prospects.
“Your word still holds, right?”
“Of course. Tomorrow at 10 am., at Zion City Theater, I introduce you to our artistic director, Crystal. Be prepared, Ms. Gardenia.”
“Thank you,” Lizetta exhaled softly, adding, “However, I can only stay with the troupe for three or four months. Just so you know, Mr. Madden, I passed Master Dories‘ audition. Once the baby is born next year, I’m planning to study abroad. Is that going to be okay?”
Previously. Lizetta had been anxious to go abroad, womed that Remington would find out about her pregnancy.
Now that the baby was no longer a secret, Lizetta felt no rush to leave.
Dories‘ world tour wouldn’t end until next year, and Lizetta didn’t want to waste the intervening months.
If she could spend some time with the dance troupe, it would enhance her resume and help her save up for living expenses and tuition fees
“Talk to Crystal about it tomorrow. If she agrees, then it’s no problem.”
After hanging up with Jerome, Lizetta gently touched her belly, whispering, Joy, I’m sorry for neglecting you. Were you angry with me, trying to scare me? Don’t worry, I’ll grow stronger. I promise never to let anyone or anything hurt you again.”
That night, Lizetta went to bed early, while Remington hadn’t returned.
She didn’t know if he would come back that night.
Lying in bed, eyes closed, she couldn’t help but imagine scenes of infidelity at Echo Ridge Villa, wondering if she’d be able to sleep. Surprisingly, she drifted off.
Until she felt the bed dip behind her and a pair of arms gently wrap around her waist, carefully embracing her.
Lizetta instantly woke up but remained still
“Did I wake you?”
She tensed up in his arms, a reaction Remington couldn’t help but notice.
His voice, low and familiar, came from behind her, his lips barely touching her ear after a shower, “I’m sorry for coming back late. Go back to sleep.”
Lizetta opened her eyes, her gaze cold and clear.
“Where were you?” she asked.
Remington pulled her closer, his voice soothing. “Nowhere much. I got caught up with work.”
A bitter smile played on Liz’s lips.
She wanted to believe him, but trust, once cracked, allows the shadows of doubt to creep in, occupying the heart.
She suddenly broke free from his arms, turning to face him.
In the darkness, she stared into his stem face and slowly began, “I heard something ridiculous today. I wonder if it’s true.”
