Chapter 30- Unveiled scars
"Hannah, when did you start taking sleeping medication?" His voice was soft but not comforting, almost like he was about to break down that very second.
"What?"
"How many pills are you taking Hannah?" He barely says my full name, I gulp.
" I don't know what you-." He raises his head and faces me,
"Don't lie to me Hannah." He's close to a shouting tone, I swallow hard again.
"Maybe five."My voice is shaky.I look away. I can't bare to see his face like that.
"Dad.... I....I'M SORRY!" I finally spat out. I can see his head faced down again as if he's hiding all his pain too. The room starts to feel more suffocating. I realize now I'm in a hospital bed!
"I-I just couldn't sleep at night! Without thinking about that man and the room I just wanted to forget! Every time I closed my eyes, I could see his face, I could hear myself screaming and crying, I just wanted to forget!" I sob.
"If you were having this much trouble sleeping why didn't you tell me!" He scowled angrily causing me to sob even more and hiccup a bit.
"I hic! thought! hic! I could! hic! get hic! through hic it!..I can't face him. A long moment of silence is passed between us,
"Hannah." I turn to face him and he looks at me directly in the eye. "Never do something THIS stupid EVER AGAIN." I nod at him while sniffling even more. He scoots closer to me brushing his hand on my cheek, "Get some rest...." I nod again, while he quietly exits my room. My door creaks again, huh? Ali?
"Hannah!" She runs over and hugs me. I start calming myself down from the talk I had with my father. It's no use I can't see myself so it's pointless.
"Hey Ali..." My voice is so monotone I want to cry right here but I can't! Not until I'm alone.
"What's wrong?" She lets go and she soon notices the sadness in my eyes. I start balling again.. I hug her tight and start sobbing right now I feel like I can trust her. She says nothing and rubs my back reassuring me!
"It'll get better Hannah I promise...." She trails off. I take her words to heart, even though I barely met her, she's been with me through some shit. I feel like she's the only one I can rely on right now. When I finally calmed myself down, Ali then smiled at me. "The whole school we'll be talking about you, you know?" I roll my eyes!
"Ugh...I can't seem to catch a break!" She giggles.
"Don't get too pissed, at least teachers won't be so hard on you." I sigh.
"I guess."
"I take it that your dad didn't know about the night terrors?"
"No, he didn't, or that I got a hold of his sleeping pills."
"Did you at least ask why he has them?"
"Right now, my father isn't honest with me about the simplest things."
"Oh.." She says quietly. "Ian is going to be pissed you know."
"He's always pissed!"
"True..." She nods her head slowly.I let out a yawn. "Hahaha..Maybe I better get going you are still recovering." I nod and she smiles at me. I smile back.
"Yeah.. thanks Ali, for being here with me...." She smiles again,
"Anytime girl, you need anything or a shoulder to cry on. I'm here okay, don't hesitate to text me or call me." We wave goodbye to each other. Once the door closes I'm all alone, the sun begins to set making the room to appear darker. I sit up on the hospital bed, unable to get comfortable or sleep. The door creaks open revealing a figure, ever since I was kidnapped the sound of creaking doors makes my heart race. I squint to try to make out the figure, my worst fears come into play. Is it them? Are they back? Once the figure's face is revealed I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Damn it Ian! You scared the shit out of me!"
"If I was one of the guys who kidnapped you, I would've already took you by now." He rolls his eyes.
"Why are you here?" I cross my arms. He lets out a frustrated sigh.
"I don't know how I can break this down further for you, whatever happens to you happens to me!"
"Yes! I know!" I huff out a breath and roll my eyes. "You said that already, so you're watching me to make sure I'm not kidnapped right?"
"No, you're safe here considering that they're a lot of people here." "Hannah, you had a drug overdose right?" He stretches out his words.
"Yes? And?"
"And! And so do I!" What? Is he serious?
"Wait, if you fainted? then how come you're not in the hospital right now?"
"Because I escaped! Hannah I swear, I'm this close to locking you up somewhere so you don't try anything stupid and kill us both!"
"I didn't mean for this to happen!"
"Well what did you expect! You were taking pills that were one not even prescribed to you! Then kept adding more to swallow!" Wait how did he know that they're not mine! Oh probably from the doctor diagnosis...
"What was I supposed to do!" I argue back. "I can't sleep! I can't close my eyes for more than a second! Everytime I do I'm back at that place or getting cut up!" My eyes begin to sting and become moist.
"I'm sorry about your night terrors Hannah, but popping in pills isn't going to solve anything." He says with no emotion.
"They do help me, I sleep without having any dreams or seeing that dark room."
"It's nothing but a distraction Hannah, you can't just forget about all that's happened."
"So it's better for me to relive it every damn night?"
"Yes, you have to fight through it."
"You say it like it's that easy, you have no idea what it feels like to relive the most horrible moments in your life every day!"
