Secret Scion

Chapter 181 -

"You should have learned about my reputation in the industry, Kyle. Very few clients are unhappy with my work to the point where I have zero complaints. However, because of you, the reputation that I've built up in the past several years is bound to be destroyed. Of course, to each their own, since you're turning down the offer, I can't force you to accept it. However, I hope that you can tell me the true reason you're turning me down. Joining Rimworld Corporation is something that many in the industry can only dream of. Not to mention that the company picked you out of everyone else, showing that they are sincere. When you say that you're turning it down due to family, I simply can't believe it."

Layla then gave Kyle a look with thoughtful eyes. The latter simply frowned. It was obvious that what she said had hit the bullseye. She then continued, "I also know that despite your talents and abilities, you're having a hard time in Clear River Corporation. You must have made yourself a lot of enemies throughout the years in the company as you became the star employee and stood in their way. That's why they want to take you out all the time, right?"

Kyle scowled and said, "It seems like you have learned a lot about me."

"Why, of course. You have no allies or friends in Clear River Corporation. That's why you actually want to leave the company, am I right? In other words, your excuse for not leaving, you wanting to take care of your family, is a completely unbelievable excuse," Layla explained clearly. Kyle's frown became even deeper as he could not find any excuse to refute her. He then said, "Ms. Knight, this is just your own assessment. It doesn't reflect my thoughts on the matter." Layla laughed. "Why aren't we having this meeting in your office? Is it because there's someone there that I'm not supposed to see?"

"No. It's just because I don't want everyone to know that you're here looking for me," Kyle said anxiously.

Dove said with a faint smile, "The expression on your face is betraying you, Kyle. You know better than anyone else that it would be greatly beneficial to you if you were to join Rimworld Corporation. Not to mention that with your abilities, you shouldn't waste your talents in Clear River Corporation. Rimworld Corporation is the best stage where you can exhibit your talents. I believe that every talented person would like their talents to be put on display and not be hidden in some forgotten corner. And you, Kyle, are someone just like that."

'To display my talents? To realize my dreams?'

Kyle's mind was once again swayed.

Dove was right. Anyone who was talented would wish for their abilities to be fully used, to fully show their worth.

Not to mention Kyle was someone that had already built up his reputation. When he was in Clear River Corporations, he was worried about slip-ups all the time so he had no chance to go all-out. He had never tried it, that was why he looked forward to it so much.

Just when Kyle was having second thoughts, Layla suddenly asked, "How much did Huxley promise you to the point where you're willing to sacrifice your future?"

When Kyle heard that, he was shaken up. He looked at Layla with eyes wide and muttered, "Ms. Knight, you... you knew?"

Layla snorted. "His car is parked right down there. Not to mention that he has no business dealings with your company. Why else would he be here if not for you?"

Only now was Layla able to confirm her suspicion. All of this was because of Huxley conspiring against her behind her back.

Seeing that there was no need to hide it, Kyle simply sighed and said, "Ms. Knight, Huxley is the young master of the Crawfords. I can't afford to insult him. I have to do whatever he wants me to do unless I leave Alexandrius with my family. However, that's simply not possible. Ms. Knight, everything you two just said is right. I really want to further my career with Rimworld Corporation. However, I have to think about my family."

"That damn bastard! I won't forgive Huxley!" Layla said as she gritted her teeth. "Kyle, if I can guarantee that Huxley won't retaliate, will you go to Rimworld Corporation?"

Kyle did not even think twice before replying, "Of course, I will."

"Good. Wait for my news. I'll make your worries go away."

After they left Clear River Corporation, Layla then said, "Dove, take a cab back to the company. I need to go to the Crawfords."

Dove furrowed her brows and said, "Are you going to look for Huxley? What will you do if he denies it?"

"He has to admit it even if he denies it." With that, Layla took out her mobile. Their conversation with Kyle just now had all been recorded. With that recording, Huxley had no choice but to admit it.

Even Dove had to give it to Layla when it came to being detailed and thorough. She had learned something new again. Before she left, Dove could not help but ask, "Ms. Knight, is Asher alright lately? I gave him a few calls, but he didn't pick up. He doesn't want anything to do with me that badly?"

Dove's eyes slowly turned red.

Even Layla was feeling somewhat empathetic toward what Dove was going through. It seemed like Dove's feelings for Asher were quite deep as well. After some hesitation, she then said, "Asher is currently at his lowest point. It's normal that he doesn't want to see you."

"I see," Dove replied calmly.

"Huxley Crawford! Get your arse out here right now!"

When Layla arrived at the Crawfords' residence, Layla immediately rushed over to the courtyard that Huxley and his family were living in. As soon as she arrived, she roared, "Huxley, if you're still a man, stop hiding like a mouse and come out here!"

"And I was thinking who had the nerve to scream so loudly here. It's you, Layla."

Huxley's mother left her room and walked outside when she heard Layla's voice. She glanced at Layla and then said with a strange expression on her face, "Oh, Layla. Huxley is already the heir of the Crawfords. His identity is much greater than before. If the servants hear you roaring like that, it will cause him to lose face. Don't do that ever again. Huxley's not at home. What is this about?"

"Lose face? Why should I give someone like him any respect at all?!" Layla said in anger. "He's avoiding me, isn't he? Please give him a call right now and tell him to come back here. I won't leave until everything's settled!"

"Layla, just what kind of attitude is that? I'm your aunt! Is that how you're going to speak to me?" But before she could even finish, Layla had already left the courtyard.

Huxley's mother was also very angry. After her son had become the heir, everyone had been showing him respect no matter who they were. Meanwhile, Layla, despite being a junior, had completely ignored her. It seemed like the Knights had really spoiled her.

"What's going on? Why do I hear Layla's voice?" It was at this time Liam came out from his room as well.

Huxley's mother simply glanced at Liam and snorted, "Your little niece is really throwing everything she knows about social etiquette out the window. She's cursing Hux right in front of

us. If I don't teach her a lesson, she will really think that this is her home."

Liam frowned and said, "What's going on? Layla's not the type that would get angry for no reason."

Only then did she remember that she could call Huxley. She then called him and asked, "Hux, where are you? Layla's here, and it seems like she wants to tear you into pieces. What did you do to her?"

Only then did Huxley know that he had already been exposed. Layla did see his car. However, he had just become the heir to the Crawfords. He could not make any mistakes at this juncture. When he remembered that, he then said, "I didn't do anything, Mom. She must be angry for no reason again."

"How dare that Layla Knight bully my son. Don't come back for now. I'll teach her a lesson." When Liam saw that his wife had hung up, he then asked, "What did our son say?"

"Our son didn't do anything to her! That girl... She's trying to bully our family just because she's the prized daughter of the Knights! I'm going to teach her a lesson this time!" She said angrily. Liam then said with a frown, "Let it go. We're relatives. Don't strain the relationship." "That's exactly why she's acting without any fear of consequences. I'm really not sure why I fell for you all those years ago, Liam. You've been weak and useless all your life. I've suffered so much after I married you. Luckily, my son is doing great and has become the heir of the household. Why should I be the target again? I won't force you if you don't dare to do it, but don't stop me, or I'll never forgive you for this!" She gave Liam an angry look before pushing him away and leaving the courtyard.

"You didn't know why you fell for me? I didn't know why I fell for you either! You dressed up like a fairy every single day... just who were you showing it to?!" Liam protested furiously.

After Layla left Huxley's home, she immediately went to Solomon's courtyard. She had just entered the living room when she saw Solomon sitting there having tea. "Grandpa, I'm here to complain."

Solomon was first stunned when he heard that before he put down the tea cup and asked with a smile, "Who are you going to complain about?"
