Secret Scion

Chapter 166 -

As the car was slowly drifting into the distance, Noelle looked at the figure that was slowly

disappearing in her side mirror. She did not know if it was because of the wind as she had her window rolled down, her eyes were slowly becoming red as her vision blurred.

Only when Asher was completely out of view did Noelle roll the window back up.

Separation was always bitter. It was as if her heart had been sliced by a knife. It was too painful to bear.

Asher also watched as Noelle drove away. Only when her car was completely out of sight did he let out a long sigh of relief.

At this time, Asher's mobile vibrated. He took it out. It was a message from the bank. Asher took a closer look. It was indeed 145,000.

Initially, he was quite surprised that his account would suddenly have so much money. Very quickly, his surprise turned into a bitter smile. He could not help but look in the direction that Noelle had disappeared into, mumbling, "You really want to be my sugar mama, huh?"

While Asher did not know much about money management, he knew that it was love that was able to make Noelle give him such a large amount...

However, this also placed an invisible pressure on Asher's shoulders. With a woman like this, do I have the right to simply give up? If I love her, then I must give the best things in life to her. Even if it's just for her, I need to step up my game.

"Asher!"

At this time, a familiar voice came from behind him.

After a moment of hesitation, he then turned around and looked at Layla. He said in a meek tone, "I've already been exiled, what more do you want? Even if it's my fault, I've already paid a heavy price. So please, just let me be."

Asher thought that the reason that Layla had come to look for him must be because of the incident last time. In the past few days, Asher had experienced both heaven and hell. He had been tortured and humiliated. There was nothing else that he could do.

Layla did not know why, but when she heard how Asher had responded to her, she suddenly felt as if a needle had been pierced through her heart.

"All I want is to hear a sliver of truth from you. Be honest with me. When we were drinking, did you spike the wine?" Layla asked without beating around the bush at all.

Asher let out a laugh and said, "You've investigated everything, right? You have the truth! What is there left to be said?"

"What do you mean we've investigated everything?!" Layla said unhappily.

"Isn't that the case? All of you are even better than a detective when investigating a case. You can find out who's the real criminal with just a few guesses. You're all very talented. I'm very

impressed." With that, Asher walked back to the hotel directly. He did not even want to continue the chat with Layla.

Layla was someone quite smart, so she could hear the helplessness and scorn in Asher's tone. She frowned in response. Had she truly wrongly accused him of doing something he did not? When she saw that Asher was leaving, Layla followed him after some hesitation.

When Asher was about to open the door to his room, Layla had already caught up with him. He looked at her from the corner of his eyes and said nothing. He opened the door, stepped in, and was going to close the door.

Layla quickly stopped the door from closing by having her hand block the door frame. She said nothing and simply used her eyes to tell him what she was feeling. It was as if she was saying, come on, close it. Snap my hand in half.

When Asher saw that, he felt that things were getting out of hand again. He then asked, "Layla, what do you want?!"

"All I want is the truth." Layla did not know that Noelle had returned to Rollinsford. She thought that she was still in the room, and so she subconsciously took a peek inside. Of course, she did not see Noelle's figure anywhere. "Noelle's gone?"

Asher could not even be bothered to speak as he sat down on the sofa. He then poured himself half a glass of red wine and finished everything in one gulp.

Layla pouted and then stared at Asher before finally stepping into the room. Just as she was about to close the door and lock it, she suddenly heard Asher say, "Don't close the door. You're so pretty and wearing something so sexy, aren't you worried that I might do something to you again?"

Layla gritted her teeth. There were many people in this world that could make her angry, but none of them could make her so readily angry like him.

Layla was wearing a tube today, but it was not the kind that showed a lot of cleavage. Still, her deep cleavage was still visible. Perhaps it was out of instinct, even though she knew that Asher was simply trying to annoy her, she still instinctively pulled up her outfit. She then walked over and snorted. "You've not been decent since you were little anyway. You spied on your servants bathing when you were only five, do you dare deny that?! Isn't it normal for me to be suspicious of you?!"

Asher could feel the annoyance building up in him. What would a five-year-old know? "Get out! I don't want to talk to you!" Asher yelled as he pointed at the door.

Layla placed her hands on her waist and said, "On what grounds? Why do I have to leave when you tell me to? I'd have no dignity left." With that, Layla sat down on the sofa and continued, "If you don't tell me everything about that day, I'm not leaving."

"Fine, I'll leave." Before Layla could say anything, Asher had already stood up and left. "Asher! You bastard!" Layla was so furious that she almost exploded.

However, despite her anger, Layla felt that Asher was intentionally trying to hide something from the conversation they had just now. After giving it a thought, Layla believed that she needed to talk to Solomon.

When Layla went past the reception after going downstairs, she was suddenly stopped by the receptionist. "Excuse me, Miss. Please hold. The room charges haven't been paid yet."

Layla was still quite furious, and so she asked in an angry tone, "What does that have to do with me?"

"Before Mr. Crawford left, he said that you'd pay for all the charges." The receptionist then took out a bill. "This is the bill, and the total is 5,200 dollars. Please double check."

"5,200 dollars?!" Layla was taken aback.

"Yes, that's correct. Will you be paying by cash or card?"

If murder was legal, then the one thing that Layla wanted to do right now was to kill Asher. Noelle and he were the ones that had spent their time here, why was she the one having to pay for them?! They enjoyed the facilities and had a happy time, but she had to pay from her purse? That was too much!

"Asher Crawford! You better pray that I don't catch you again!" Layla said in a murderous tone and then took out a card from her purse and put it on the counter.

Today, a very important person came by the Schmidt household. It was the patriarch of the Macquoids, Alistair.

Even Xavier was surprised by Alistair's sudden visit. As they were seated in the living room, he was also trying to think of a reason why he would visit them. However, no matter how he thought about it, he could not figure out why he was there. And so, he put down his cup and then said with a smile, "It's been a long time since I've met you, you're still as vigorous as ever. Why have you suddenly visited my little abode?"

Alistair did not bring anyone along. As such, only Xavier was accompanying him in the living

room.

"If yours is a humble abode, nothing in Alexandrius could claim themselves to be anything lavish. Haha... Time really does fly. In an instant, both of us are frail old men. However, we didn't waste our time on this earth. We are surrounded by family, and our household is doing well. However, I have one more worry, which is Sebastian's marriage," Alistair said with a smile. "Xavier, why isn't Rose around?"

When Xavier heard what he had to say, he instantly knew what Alistair wanted. He was checking up on them.

The Macquoid household was the publicly recognized super household in Alexandrius. Its status was unparalleled. Meanwhile, Sebastian himself was an excellent young man and was one of the leading figures among the next generation. He was also going to be the next person in charge of the Macquoids. If the Macquoids and Schmidts could form an alliance through marriage, then the Schmidts would become unrivaled in Alexandrius.

That was why Xavier was quite happy as well as he said with a smile, "Just wait a moment. I'll have her come over right now."

He then ordered his servant to ask Rose to join them.

Rose had already received news when Alistair came to the household. As she recalled, this was the first time that Alistair was visiting the Schmidt household. What could Alistair want, she wondered. He would not have come if he wanted nothing.

When the servants came saying that Alistair wanted to see her, Rose thought about it and realized that he had probably come because of the matter between her and Sebastian. Before Sebastian came back, Rose did miss him. However, when she saw Sebastian yesterday, Rose realized that she was not as happy as she thought she would be. Why did that happen? Even Rose could not understand why. Perhaps it was because they had not met for a long time, and they had somewhat grown estranged.
