Chapter 161 -
Rose also knew that Sebastian would come back today. As such, after she had completed some tasks in the company in the morning, she then drove to the Macquoids.
She had just arrived outside of the Macquoids when a black Audi drove in. Rose knew the owner... A very influential woman called Selena Horton. She was also very popular in Alexandrius.
Selena's relationship with the Macquoid was a bit complicated. Her father was a higher-up in Alexandrius and was very good friends with Alistair. While he had accomplished little when he was young, he had asked Alistair for a lot of help during that period. Afterward, an opportunity presented itself, and he quickly climbed up the ladder, becoming one of the high-ranking officials in the city. That was how the Macquoids had become stronger as well.
However, Selena's father was no longer at the forefront due to some issues. In the end, Selena was promoted instead. She was already the head of some department before she was even thirty. Truly worthy of being her father's daughter.
However, as Alistair and Selena's father had a close relationship, and Selena had Alistair as her godfather, so when it came to seniority, everyone in Jeremiah's generation should call Selena auntie.
When Rose saw Selena's car stop, Rose then exited her car. She walked over and said with a smile, "Ms. Horton. I didn't expect to see you here as well. I haven't seen you for a very long time, and I was wondering just the other day when I should drop by and pay you a visit."
Selena was wearing a black dress. She was also extremely beautiful, and she was publicly acknowledged by Alexandrians as an impeccable beauty. Even her grace was not something that other women could simply compare with, revealing grace and strength in her every movement. Even Rose did not carry that much elegance.
"Oh, it's you, Rose. I haven't seen you for a very long time. You've become even more beautiful." Selena exited her car as she greeted Rose. She was as tall as Rose, almost standing at 5.9 feet. She was pretty tall for a woman.
"Have you and Sebastian been keeping in touch with each other since he left?" Selena asked as she approached her.
"We have, but not that frequently," Rose answered honestly.
Selena smiled and then said, "While I've never asked Sebastian about it, I can see that the two of you love each other. Sebastian is about that age too... So, we should find a date and confirm everything. If you're willing, I'll tell my godfather about it."
Rose had liked Sebastian for a long time. However, Asher's sudden appearance two years ago messed up Rose's plan. If not, the two of them would have confirmed their relationship a long
time ago.
When Rose heard what Selena had to say, she was somewhat embarrassed. She then said, "He has left for a few years. Maybe he has someone else that he likes now?"
"He doesn't. I know Sebastian. He's not someone that fickle," Selena laughed as they walked into the Macquoid estate together. There were already dozens from the younger generation waiting in the garden not far away. They were all preparing to welcome Sebastian back. She then said, "While it has been a few years since he left, his influence in Alexandrius is still unparalleled. Oh, isn't that Griffin Quinn? Why is he here? As I recall, he hasn't had any interaction with Sebastian." Griffin's muscular and hulking figure was quite eye-catching in the crowd. It was not something strange for Selena to have discovered him with one glance.
After thinking about it for a moment, Rose then said, "Asher and he had a fight."
"Oh? I didn't expect that." Selena frowned. After hesitating for a few seconds, she then asked, "I heard that Solomon has exiled Asher from the Crawfords. Is that true?"
Rose nodded and said, "Yes. It happened a few days ago. You heard about that too, Ms. Horton?" Rose found it to be quite surprising. Selena did not care about what happened in the households of Alexandrius. However, she would always receive news about the Crawfords in real time. Normally speaking, Selena and the Crawfords had very few dealings with each other and no special relationship whatsoever. It was really quite surprising to her.
Selena gave her a faint smile and then changed the topic, "Rose, I'm not well-acquainted with any of them, so I'm not going over to greet them. I'm going to go and see my godfather." With that, Selena headed to where Alistair was staying.
Rose flicked her hair. After a few moments of hesitation, she then walked over to Griffin and the others.
The Lanes, the Harrisons, and the Webbs had sent representatives over. Even Phoebe herself was present. It could be said that all reputable households from the city had sent someone over. However, there was a certain someone in the crowd that surprised Rose for being present. Savannah.
When Savannah asked Jeremiah to deal with Griffin, Rose felt that Savannah was not someone dependable. Now that she was also in the Macquoids' household, she could easily tell that Savannah wanted to latch on to someone more powerful.
When Maggie and the others saw Rose walking toward them, they all greeted her. The one representing the Harrisons was Seth, and he was standing next to Phoebe. It seemed like something was going on between them. Rose was still somewhat surprised.
Whenever two households had a diplomatic marriage, it would cause an uproar.
However, Rose did not expect that Phoebe and Seth would end up together.
"Phoebe and I will be engaged in a few days' time. I hope that you'll all come to the Harrisons' to celebrate this joyous occasion," Seth said with a smile. Since they would find out sooner or later, he might as well inform all of them right then.
However, as soon as he said that, the crowd fell silent, and the atmosphere became very awkward.
Savannah smiled and said, "Congratulations, Mr. Harrison and Ms. Webb. Your engagement is indeed a joyous occasion."
Meanwhile, Griffin merely said, "Phoebe, didn't you just break off your engagement with Asher? You're getting engaged again so soon? That was fast. Don't tell me that before you broke off your engagement with Asher, you were already dating Seth?"
Griffin was someone that was direct and straightforward. He would not care about others'
feelings and would do or say whatever he felt like at the time.
As soon as everyone heard what Griffin had to say, they all looked at Phoebe with skepticism. Phoebe also became somewhat awkward.
Seth said, "When Asher and Phoebe were engaged, he also secretly got married into some other family. Griffin, I know that you're Asher's good friend, but this is between Phoebe and me. So, you better stop interfering."
Griffin gave Seth a scornful glare and said, "If Asher secretly married someone else, it means that he's a scumbag. But since Phoebe secretly dated you, does that make her a scumbag too?" When Phoebe heard what Griffin said, she was so angry that she almost wanted to punch him and knock off his teeth.
Griffin continued, "To be honest, this has nothing to do with me. She can get engaged with anyone she likes. I don't care. Also, you said something wrong. Asher and I are no longer friends.
I don't know anyone like him. I don't want anyone to say that we're friends anymore."
Everyone frowned because no one wanted to continue that conversation.
Selena first went over to Alistair's and then talked with him for a while. A short while later, Jeremiah was there too. He had just entered Alistair's courtyard when he said, "Grandpa, I heard that Aunt Selena is here. Is she here?"
Jeremiah led Juliette into the living room, and he immediately saw Selena sitting on the sofa. He then said with a smile, "Aunt Selena, you haven't come to our place for such a long time. However, you came as soon as you got wind that Sebastian was coming back. You're being so unfair!"
Selena could not help but say with a smile, "Jeremiah, I've been quite busy lately. I was originally planning to get some time off to visit anyway. Since I heard that your brother is coming back, I suppose that it's a timely coincidence. And the one next to you is...?"
"Aunt Selena, she's my girlfriend, Juliette Laurier," Jeremiah said. "Juliette, this is my aunt, Selena Horton. She's quite influential in politics."
Juliette then smiled politely. "I've seen you a lot on television. I didn't think that you were so young. You're an idol for many of my peers. If they find out that I had a chance to see you in person, they'll definitely envy me."
"Godfather, Juliette's mouth is laced with honey. It seems like Jeremiah has good eyes," Selena said with a smile.
This was the first time that Alistair was meeting Juliette. She was very smart and not pretentious. As such, Alistair's first impression of her was not bad. When he heard what Selena had to say, Alistair could not help but nod with a smile as well.
It was at this time that the butler rushed to the door and said, "Master Alistair, Master Sebastian's car is right outside."
"Oh? So soon?" When Alistair heard that, a spark of joy could be seen within his eyes as he quickly stood up and said, "Selena, let's go and see him."
