Hearing my words, Rick couldn’t stay humble anymore.

“Lisa, Jenny sincerely came to apologize to you and to pay her respects to Alex. There’s no need to be so harsh and confrontational.”

When I remembered the words Alex spoke before he passed and looked at Rick’s

current expression, it felt like a sharp pain piercing my heart.

Alex’s longing gaze haunted my mind on countless nights, the image refusing to leave.

But his beloved father solely focused on his old flame.

“Get out of here. Don’t push me to the edge.”

My hysterical voice rang out as I pointed accusingly at Jenny.

Startled by my outburst, Jenny trembled and sought refuge behind Rick.

Furrowing his eyebrows, Rick protected Jenny with a pained expression.

“Lisa, you’re going too far. Do you know that Jenny made preparations three days in advance and bought a lot of delicious and fun things for Alex?

Glancing at the bag Jenny held, I scoffed and swiftly snatched it away, dumping its contents on the ground.

“Is this what you call preparation? Do you even know that Alex is allergic to mangoes? Do you know he stopped playing with these toy cars since he was three?”

Rick looked taken aback, awkwardly frozen in place.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”

“Of course you didn’t know. After all, your heart is focused on someone else’s child,” I remarked pointedly, eyeing Jenny.

Caught by my gaze, Jenny turned away guiltily, then approached me in a victimized manner, placing her hand on my arm.

“Lisa, I understand you’re angry with me, and you can treat me however you want. But you’re still pregnant, you your child.”

Her mention of the child struck a nerve within me. I pushed Jenny away fiercely,

causing her to stumble back, screaming.

“What are you trying to do, lisa? How could you be so unreasonable, acting like a shrew?”

Rick quickly shielded Jenny in his arms and pushed me back.

The graveyard was damp from recent rain, so the ground was slippery. With steps behind me, off balance,/I fell backward down the steps.

Witnessing Rick’s panicked expression and the hint of satisfaction in Jenny’s eyes, I

tumbled straight down from the stairs.

Staring at the dark sky for a moment, I saw Alex coming towards me.

But when I reached out, I couldn’t catch him.

I cried out for Alex to wait, but he left without looking back.

A sharp, piercing pain in my abdomen brought me back to consciousness.

Rick held me, running and crying out my name.

I had a dream.

In the dream, Alex held my hand, with a little girl at my feet, both calling me “mom.” We went to an amusement park, rode a carousel, ate cotton candy, and went on the Ferris wheel Alex had always wanted to ride.

There were only the three of us in the Ferris wheel.

As it reached the highest point, Alex looked at me with his big eyes and said, “Mom, me and sister can only stay with you here. You need to eat regularly and love yourself, okay?

I desperately tried to grab Alex’s hand but caught nothing but air.

Alex and the little girl stepped over the Ferris wheel, not looking back, ascending the transparent staircase into the sky.

“Alex, don’t leave me. Please, Alex, stay with me.

“Alex, look back at me, please? Just turn around and look at me once, Alex.”
