Sasha Swift 2 late to Die

Chapter 8

Sasha

It’s been three days. Three terrible days of being locked in this room. Stuck in the same clothes. Using a bucket in the corner for a bathroom. This feels like hell. The food is terrible also. I’m stuck eating different sandwiches all day with only water to drink. I’m dying without my daily coffee.

Jonah hasn’t been back to see me. A young human girl who looks twelve does. I’m sure he compelled her to come and bring me food. She is shy and timid and doesn’t speak to me. Even though I have tried many times. If I could somehow break the compulsion I could convince her to help me escape but without my fae powers or any magical potions, I'm screwed. Right now I’m waiting for lunch when I hear his voice.

“Oh, Sasha I have a surprise for you!” He opens the door grinning. “A special guest really. I think she came to rescue you.”

Jonah steps aside and pushes a woman in. I look at her face and see it’s Robin. She has a metal collar around her neck and her arms are also handcuffed. She is definitely not here to save me. Why is she here? Is Zane close by?

“Now don’t get all excited. Your boyfriend didn’t send her. She came alone according to what she said. I guess I have both my brother’s women now.” He laughs and chains her leg to the wall. When he's done he slams the door shut leaving.

When I’m sure Jonah won’t return I stand up. “What the hell are you doing here? Where is Zane?”

“Zane is fine. He doesn’t know I’m here. I’m sure he told you I’m psychic. I had a vision about you being held up in a cell. I came to rescue you. But I got caught. It’s okay, by now Zane has probably noticed you're missing and will look for you.”

I start laughing hysterically. Zane replaced me with this idiot. She knows nothing. A tear comes down my face and I wipe it away. Robin looks at me like I’m crazy. “Zane isn’t looking for me. I broke his heart. He has you now. He won’t come for me.”

“Zane loves you. He only told you we were together to make you jealous. Zane is in love with you. He still keeps an eye on you. Now please let’s sit.” She smiles at me and my legs do hurt so I decide to sit. Not because she asked me to obviously.

“Fine but if he loves me so much how come he never told me about his brother? I think I should have been warned about the psycho.” I mean really a secret brother. Who doesn’t tell the one they love they have a sibling?

“It’s a long story.”

I look at my hands chained up. “I have time. Tell me.”

She sighs. “Jonah was later adopted by Vlad also. Unlike Zane, he was a troublemaker. Parties, girls, and drugs. He did it all. Zane tried to stay away from it all but was eventually lured in. Later when it came time to be changed Vlad informed the boys Zane is the true heir. He had been trained his whole life to take over the vampire kingdom. Vlad had literally chosen him over hundreds of human babies he had kidnapped.”

“Wow.” I interrupt.

“Yeah wow. Jonah was furious. He treated Zane terribly and they got into a huge fight. Zane decided then he wanted his brother more than the crown. So he told Vlad he was leaving. When Jonah found out he was still angry. He knew even with Zane being gone he would never be king. They fought again and Zane left. They never spoke to each other again. They both pretend the other doesn’t exist.”

To say I’m shocked would be an understatement. It seems I’m always learning something new about Zane. Why does he have so many secrets? And how come he doesn’t trust me enough to tell me? I'm also a hypocrite because I have my own secrets I refuse to tell, but still.

“I know that look.” Robin speaks up and I didn’t realize she was paying attention to the distraught look on my face. “I’m sure Zane was going to tell you, eventually. The only reason I know is that I met them both as children.”

Now I’m even more shocked. “You knew Zane as a kid?” Man, she knows everything about him. How can I even compete?

“Yes, I met him when I was around twelve. My mother took me to Vlad. She wanted him to change me. But he refused unless she paid fifty thousand dollars. It’s how he made millions and also built up his army. But we were broke. It took my mother years to save up to get the money. Even then he was hesitant to change me unless I pledged my loyalty to him.”

After she told me about Zane we sit in silence for a while. I’m still trying to process everything. Zane has a brother who wants to be the vampire king. He also kidnapped me and Robin. Who is his fake girlfriend? So much is happening that I can’t keep up. I know if I make it out of here I need to have a serious talk with Zane. No more secrets.

Hours roll by and Robin tells me all about herself even though I barely speak to her. I’m starting to hate her less. She seems like a very nice person. She is honest and always smiling. Maybe after this, we can be acquaintances. I’m not sure I’m ready for the friend’s label yet.

Two days later Jonah arrives. We both stand when he enters. Today Jonah is dressed in a black shirt and camouflage pants. He walks straight to me and pushes me against the wall. He grabs my chin and forces me to look into his cold hazel eyes.

“He finally knows you're missing. Sadly for you, he is looking at all the wrong people. He doesn’t even suspect me.”

“Lay off Jonah! You have done enough. Just let her go! Killing her won’t solve anything! You will never be king!” Robin shouts and he turns his attention to her.

He races over to her and shoves his hand into her chest. “You have always been such a loyal friend to my brother. Tell me Robin how does it feel to be on the losing side? When I’m king I’m going to kill all of my brother's loyal followers.”

Robin smirks at him. “Good luck. They won’t follow you. We all know you weren’t meant to lead.”

Jonah growls angrily his free hand tightening around her throat. “I will be king! Zane is an idiot. He doesn’t even realize the power he holds. Which will make taking him down so much easier.”

Jonah looks at me and in a flash, I’m in a headlock. His arm tightens around my neck choking me. I struggle to breathe as he tightens his hold. Robin growls and pulls on her chain trying to get free.

“You let her go, Jonah! She has nothing to do with this! I get it you want to be seen! You want Zane’s attention. But killing her won't make him back down.”

Jonah doesn’t back down though as he continues to choke me. Though his eyes watch Robin. She continues.

“If you kill her he won’t stop. He will do everything he can to make sure you never become king! You need her.” She tells him and he looks from her to me like he's considering what she's saying. His arm releases me a little so I can breathe. He frowns at me and I’m unsure what his next move is.

“You’re right. You’re his beloved. He would destroy the world for you.” He tells me. “But her, she is useless.” He whispers and in a flash again he runs up and rips out Robin’s heart. She gives me a pleading look before she turns to ashes.

“No!” I scream. Tears stream down my face and I fall to my knees and hold myself.

Robin didn’t deserve this. She was a gentle soul. I misunderstood her and judged her before I really knew her. Now I won’t get the chance. She came to rescue me and instead died while I’m still trapped. She died for nothing. He will kill me I know it.

Jonah throws her heart down and then begins licking the blood off his fingers. “She is right I need you.” He steps towards me and I headbutt him.

“I’ll never let you have me!” I shout and he raises his fist to punch me.

“Don’t worry. This is all a part of the plan.” His fist collides with my face and I’m suddenly seeing stars before darkness overtakes me.
