Chapter Rush 25

Chapter 25

Alicia turned around and saw Ashley standing behind her. She quickly hid the test results behind her back.

Ashley noticed and got suspicious.

Just because I’m in the OB–GYN department, you assume I’m pregnant? I’ve been locked up by Dalton for three days and wasn’t feeling well, so I came for a check–up. Besides, I hate Dalton so much. Why don’t you suspect I’m here for an abortion?” Alicia snapped. Ashley was one of Dalton’s people. Last time at the villa, Ashley had targeted her, and Alicia didn’t want much to do with her.

But Ashley wasn’t letting it go. “Ms. Mayer, let’s have a chat.”

“There’s nothing to talk about,” Alicia shot back.

Ashley smiled slightly, “Ms. Mayer, I don’t like owing favors. I was wrong last time; I’m here to apologize. If you accept my apology, let me treat you to a meal.” Her tone was so self–righteous as if her apology was a rare gift Alicia had to accept.

However, Alicia really was hungry. The morning tests required fasting, and her blood sugar was a bit low. Her body hadn’t fully recovered yet, and most importantly, she knew if she didn’t agree, Ashley wouldn’t leave her alone. “Fine,” Alicia agreed.

A few minutes later, they were at a restaurant. Alicia ordered some light food, barely touching any meat. First, she didn’t have much appetite, and second, she needed to control her weight to hide her pregnancy from Dalton.

Ashley, on the other hand, just ordered a cup of coffee. “I heard Dalton was planning to officially divorce you today, but since you were locked up and Ellen found out, she won’t let him divorce you. So now it’s postponed.” Ashley took a sip of her coffee.

“Whether Ellen allows it or not, I’m divorcing Dalton,” Alicia said lightly.

“You really don’t love Dalton?” Ashley questioned, sounding incredulous. “Dalton is the most impressive man I’ve ever met. There’s no woman who doesn’t like a successful man like him. I’ve been with Dalton for years; my greatest dream is to marry him.”

“If that’s the case, why did you run away from the wedding back then?” Alicia sneered.

Ashley sighed, “If I hadn’t run away, Ellen would never have chosen me to marry Dalton. Don’t look at me like that–I didn’t run away because I was scared; I left the country to find a doctor for Dalton. By the time I found one and returned, he was already married to you.” There was bitterness in her voice.

Trying to prove her commitment, Ashley continued, “You have no idea how much I’ve sacrificed for Dalton. Because he doesn’t like kids, I even considered having my uterus removed. I’ll never have children, but for him, it’s worth it.”

Alicia was stunned at Ashley’s words, Dalton might be crazy, but Ashley seemed even crazier.

Civing up the charter to be a mother took extreme courage. “Why doesn’t Dalton like kids?” Alicia

“I don’t know. But he’s always hated kids. If a child accidentally bumped into him, he’d get really. angry Ashley replied.

Alicia’s breath hitched. “Aren’t you scared?”

Ashley shrugged nonchalantly. “Why should I be scared? Dalton must have his reasons for everything he does. Whatever he does, I’ll always support him.”

Alicia realized that Ashley was just as unhinged as Dalton. She needed to stay far away from these people: Alicia had finished eating and prepared to leave.

Ashley suddenly called out, “Alicia, did you really never fall for Dalto

“Nope,” Alicia said decisively.

“Why?” Ashley pressed.

“Just didn’t. No big reason. If I had to choose between you two, I’d pick you over Dalton any day.” Alicia replied, meaning every word. Dalton’s madness could genuinely kill her.

“You… you’re not…” Ashley seemed shocked.

Alicia looked at her, bemused. “I’m just making a point. I’m not that way inclined. If there’s nothing else, I’m heading out.” Alicia quickly left.

Out of the corner of her eye, Ashley noticed her phone on the table. Somehow, it had dialed Dalton’s number. Ashley picked it up. “Oops, sorry. Dalton. I must’ve accidentally hit the call button.”
