Chapter 57
Prince Xavier’s Point of View:
“Tell me, who are you actually?” I demanded.
“My real name is... is... is... is... Rosangela,” she answered haltingly.
‘Rosangela? Her name rings a bell but I can’t think where I’ve ever heard that name before,’ I thought.
I racked my brains, trying to remember exactly where I had ever heard Rosangela’s name before. After some time, I finally could recall Prince Maximilian telling me that Princess Mirabelle’s name in the human world is Rosangela. At long last, it dawned on me that Maximilian’s fiancee and my pet turned out to be one and the same.
My hands were balled into fists in an attempt to suppress my anger.
“Would you mind leaving us alone for a few minutes, Benny? I need to talk to my pet privately,” I requested.
“No, of course not,” Benny said. He then rose to his feet and started making his way towards the door. Before he left the room, Benny told me, “I’ll wait outside in case you need anything.”
“OK. Thanks a lot, Ben,” I said flatly.
Benny nodded and finally walked out of the room, shutting the door after him.
I turned and faced Rosangela. “I finally understand why you always refused to meet Prince Maximilian. At first, I didn’t find it strange. I thought you just felt embarrassed because I wanted to introduce you as my pet in front of him. But now, I know it’s because you don’t want me to find out that you’re actually his fiancée, right?”
“I don’t know what you’re on about, Xavier,” she said innocently.
“Don’t act dumb!” I snapped at her, “I’ve known who you are exactly, Rosangela. You are actually Princess Mirabelle, the granddaughter of King Bellamy, and also Prince Maximilian’s fiancée. I am right, ain’t I?”
Her jaw dropped. “H—ho—how did you know about it?”
I explained, “Actually, I began to get suspicious of you when I found out that you, who are just an ordinary human, recognize Prince Maximilian. Moreover, as far as I know, Prince Maximilian doesn’t like to get along with human. However, I tried to think positive. I’d convinced myself it’s only a coincidence that you happen to know his name. But after you told me your real name is Rosangela, I’m pretty sure that you and Maximilian’s fiancee, Princess Mirabelle, are one and the same.”
“You’re absolutely right. I am Princess Mirabelle,” she conceded.
I ran my fingers through my hair in frustrated rage. “Oh I can’t believe my own stupidity. When I found out your blood has a peculiar taste, I should have known that you are not an ordinary human. But I foolishly thought that because I was madly in love with you, that’s why I found your blood very addictive. If I knew from the start that you’re a half-blood vampire and also my friend’s fiancée, I wouldn’t have made you become my pet and I wouldn’t have fallen for you either.”
“I am so sorry, Xavier,” she sobbed.
“I am going to call Prince Xavier now to tell him I’ve found his fiancée,” I stated as I reached into my pocket for my mobile phone.
“No! Don’t tell him that I am here!” she squealed.
I raised my eyebrows. “Why didn’t you want me to call Maximilian? However, he’s your fiancé. He has a right to know that you’re here.”
“That’s the problem,” she said, “Because I’m his fiancée, I don’t want to meet him.”
My brows were knitted in a frown. “What are you talking about?”
“I can’t face Maximilian after I ran away from our wedding. He must be so disappointed of me,” she replied sadly.
Her story confused me. “Wait! You said you ran away from your wedding? But I thought you were abducted by the werewolves.”
“No, you’re wrong. Those werewolves didn’t kidnap me. On the contrary, they helped me run away from the kingdom of Clanbella because my grandfather had forced me to marry Maximilian against my will,” she clarified.
I shook my head in disbelief. “No, it’s impossible. Vampires and werewolves are enemies. So why did those werewolves want to help a half-blood vampire like you?”
“Because of my father is a werewolf. He’s the beta in his pack. That’s why those werewolves were willing to help me,” she explained.
My mouth fell open. “You mean Princess Claribelle’s husband is alive? And he’s a werewolf?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
“Then you’re a half-vampire and half-werewolf, or in other word, a hybrid?” I questioned.
“Oh no, no, no. I am a half-vampire and half-human because my father married my mother when he was still a human. After my mother passed away, the werewolves turned my father who was badly injured into one of them to save his life,” Rosangela elaborated.
Her story stunned me. I had no idea Princess Claribelle married a human who’s descendant of the werewolf. And I wondered why Maximilian had never told me about it before.
“I beg you, Xavier. Please promise me you won’t tell Maximilian that I am here. Please! Please! Please!” she pleaded.
“I can’t promise you anything,” I said frostily.
“Please Xavier, you—” Before she could finish her sentence, I jumped to my feet and stomped out of the room in high dudgeon high dudgeon, crashing the door shut behind me.
