Rosangela: The Runaway Princess (Book #2)

Chapter 26

I unpacked all of my shopping bags as soon as I came back to my bedroom. Because my dresser was so small, I had to clear out all my old clothes first and kept those clothes in a box before putting my new clothes into the dresser.

By the time I was finished, dawn was breaking. I knew the vampires had gone to bed now and the slaves had returned to their rooms as well. So I decided to get some sleep too. I had a quick shower, after that I changed into a new pair of pyjamas. I turned down the blankets and climbed into bed. No sooner had I closed my eyes than I fell into a deep sleep.

When I woke up, the clock on the wall showed half past five in the afternoon.

I jolt up into a sitting position. “Darn it! I get up late.”

Spending all night shopping and tidying away my clothes really tired me out until I overslept. I’m sure I’ll get a scolding from Mariana for waking up late.

Speaking of Mariana, why didn’t she wake me up? Or had she tried to wake me up but I didn’t hear her?

'Oh My God, if Mariana really came here to wake me up but I didn’t get up, she would go spare,' I thought.

“I have to get ready soon before Mariana comes back and finds me still in bed,” I said to myself.

Throwing back the covers, I sprang from the bed. I grabbed a pink blouse, a pair of blue jeans, and matching underwears from my dresser before running out of my bedroom and hurrying to the communal bathroom.

The communal bathroom was empty because everyone had started working by now. I walked into one of the shower cubicles and had a quick shower before changing into the clean clothes.

Stepping out of the shower cubicle, I left the bathroom, and finally I headed towards the kitchen to find something to eat.

'I hope Mariana isn’t in the kitchen now, so I can eat in peace,' I prayed quietly.

Apparently, I was out of luck because once I set foot in the kitchen, I was immediately welcomed by the angry Mariana.

“Well, well, well, look who comes to the kitchen! Prince Xavier’s pet. What brings you here, Pet?” Mariana asked contemptuously.

The kitchen staffs casted a look of pity in my direction. Probably they knew that Mariana would get me into trouble. Well, I didn’t need their pity because I could deal with Mariana by myself.

“I’m here to get my breakfast,” I answered calmly.

“Breakfast you said? Look at the time! You’re too late to have breakfast now,” she chided.

“I know it’s too late, but I’m hungry, so I decided to go to the kitchen to ask if there were leftovers for my breakfast,” I explained.

“How dare you demand to have breakfast after you’ve broken so many rules today, Angela?! Who do you think you are, huh? You must remember that you’re just a pet here. A pet. So, don’t ever think that you can do everything exactly as you please in this palace!” Mariana reprimanded me.

“What’s your problem, Mariana? I only asked if I could have breakfast. If you don’t want to give me breakfast, I don’t mind. There’s no need to be rude!” I scoffed and was unable to hide the scorn in my voice.

“Don’t speak to me in that tone of voice! Just because you’re Prince Xavier’s pet, it doesn’t mean you can place yourself above me. Let me get this straight, Angela! I’m not beneath you. It was the other way round. Do you understand me?” Mariana raved at me.

'I don’t wish to be rude, but the fact is you’re indeed beneath me, Mariana. Even though you’re a vampire, but you’re only a maid. Meanwhile, I am a vampire princess, a half-blood vampire princess to be precise,' I thought.

'By the time you find out who I am actually, you will regret what you said to me, Mariana,' I added mentally.

“Why didn’t you answer me? Has the cat got your tongue? Or are you so dumb that you don’t understand what I’m talking about?” Mariana asked me rudely.

Mariana’s harsh words made me bristle with rage. I was tempted to answer back, but I restrained myself because I didn’t want to make a scene. Thus, I just said, “Say what you like about me, Mariana, I don’t give a damn about it!”

Hearing my smart reply, the kitchen staffs dissolved into giggles. Meanwhile, Mariana flew into a fury.

“Come! I’ll show you something that will put you in your place.” Mariana grasped me by the wrist and pulled me along.

“Get off me!” I shrieked as Mariana dragged me out of the kitchen. I tried to shake her off, but I failed. Even though Mariana was old, she’s still stronger than me because she’s a vampire.

“I said get off me!” I shouted again, kept trying to wrench myself free.

Mariana tightened her grip on my wrist, causing me to wince in pain.

“Leave go of my wrist, Mariana—you’re hurting me!” I protested, but she ignored me.

“Where are you taking me, Mariana?” I asked with some apprehension when she brought me out of the palace.

“Shut up!” she snapped at me.

We walked through the palace gates, and then Mariana led me to a park.

“Why do you bring me here?” I inquired.

“See for yourself!” Letting go of my wrist, Marina pointed her finger to the direction of the people who were walking around the park.

My eyes were wide with horror at the sight in front of me. There were vampires with girls who were crawling at their sides. From the look of them, I was sure that those girls were humans.

Some girls were wearing revealing clothes, the others were even practically naked. All the girls were wearing collars around their necks. The vampires were holding the leashes that were attached to those girls’ collars. They forced those poor girls to crawl while they were walking around the park.

Mariana leaned over and whispered something in my ear. “That is how a pet should be treated. And sooner or later, you will suffer the same fate as them, Angela.”

I shook my head in disbelief. “No!”

Seeing my reaction, Mariana wore an amused smirk on her face.

I backed away, terrified. This sight made me want to be sick. How could those vampires treat the human girls like actual animals like that? Was it even legal? Because I had never seen such a thing when I was staying in the kingdom of Clanbella.

Spinning on my heel, I ran back to the palace. Mariana didn’t bother coming after me.

When I entered the foyer of the palace, I accidentally slammed into someone. I looked up and found that it was Prince Xavier.

“Hey, watch where you’re going!” Prince Xavier scolded me.

“I’m sorry,” I mumbled.

“What’s wrong with you, Angela? Are you okay? Why are you acting as if you’ve seen a ghost?” the prince asked when he noticed there was a frightening expression on my face.

“The truth is I’ve just seen something scarier than a ghost, Xavier,” I replied.

His forehead was bunched in a frown. “What do you mean?”

“Mariana took me to the park, and then...” I trailed off, shuddering at the thought of the terrifying scene I had just witnessed a few minutes ago.

“And then what?” he inquired impatiently.

“I—I saw vampires with human girls. Tho—those vampires treated the girls like animals. The—they put collars around the girls’ necks and attached it with leashes. And— and then the vampires forced the girls to crawl beside them. It was a really scary scene,” I told him with a stammer.

He gave a deep sigh. “I didn’t expect you to find out about it this soon, Angela.”

My eyes widened in surprise. “S—so you have known about it?”

“Of course! I am the prince here, so I definitely know everything that’s going on in my kingdom,” Prince Xavier replied.

“For goodness’ sake, you’re their prince, Xavier. How could you let those vampires mistreat the human girls?” I chided.

“Those vampires didn’t mistreat them, Angela. Those girls are their pets, and that’s how a pet should be treated. All pets must be kept on a leash in public places,” he explained.

I blanched. ‘All pets he said? Since I am technically Prince Xavier’s pet, does it mean that he will make me wear a collar and leash too when we’re in public places?’

I was afraid to find out the answer, but I had to ask Xavier about it just for my own peace of mind. “You— you’re not going to treat me like that, are you, Xavier?”

He gave a shrug of his shoulders. “If you kept disobeying me, maybe I would consider treating you like other pets.”

“Don’t you dare!” I warned him.

He burst out laughing. “Relax, Little Pet! l prefer you being feisty than being a mindless pet like those girls.”

I gasped. ‘So they have brainwashed those girls into becoming mindless pets? That’s insane!’

“You’re crazy!” I blurted out.

Without waiting for his response, I pushed past him and was about to run. But Prince Xavier caught hold of my arm, so I couldn’t get away.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked fiercely.

“Get off me!” I screamed as I tried to squirm free.

His hold on my arm tightened. “Never! You’re not going anywhere, Angela.”

“Please let go of me, Xavier! I don’t feel very well. I just want to go back to my room,” I pleaded.

A look of anxiety crossed Prince Xavier’s face. “Do I need to call in a doctor?”

I shook my head feebly. “It doesn’t seem necessary for me to see a doctor. I just want to take a rest. I think I’ll feel better after a good night’s sleep.”

“Okay then, go to sleep! Just call me if you need anything, okay?” he said.

I nodded my head. “Okay.”

As soon as Prince Xavier relinquished my arm, I took off running towards the direction of the slave quarter. I went into my bedroom, slamming the door behind me and pressing my back against it. My knees buckled underneath me, lastly, I fell to the floor and began to sob.

‘All the vampires who live in this place are crazy. I must escape from here as soon as possible. But before that, I have to get Randolph out of the dungeon first,’ I thought.
