Rosangela: The Half-Blood Princess

Chapter 79

Sigmund, Maximilian, and I ran away from the wedding hall. However, our way was blocked by four werewolves.

Maximilian and Sigmund pushed me behind their backs, shielding me from the werewolves. Since those werewolves actually came here to rescue me, I didn’t think Sigmund and Maximilian needed to protect me from them. They probably did it just because they didn’t want the werewolves to snatch me away.

When the werewolves advanced on us, Sigmund said, “Maximilian, stay with Princess Mirabelle! I’ll fight those werewolves.”

“Okay.” Maximilian’s head nodded in agreement.

Sigmund lastly fought against those four werewolves by himself. Meanwhile, Maximilian and I just watched them fighting.

All of a sudden, five more werewolves appeared. They came at me and Maximilian.

“Stay here, Rosanne! Don’t go anywhere!” Prince Maximilian said before he launched an attack on the oncoming werewolves.

While Prince Maximilian was busy fighting against those werewolves, Sigmund, who had just defeated the werewolves that attacked him, came over to me. He got a hold of my hand and pulled me along with him, leaving Maximilian behind.

Whilst we were running away, I looked back over my shoulder. Prince Maximilian was still struggling with the werewolves. He didn’t seemed notice us leaving him yet.

'It’s not right. All this time, Prince Maximilian was always protected by his personal bodyguard. Since Jasper isn’t here tonight, I doubt Maximilian can protect himself. We have to get back to help him,' I thought.

I tugged at Sigmund’s sleeve to get his attention.

Sigmund turned his head to look at me.

I signaled him to stop running.

He understood what I tried to say and immediately halted.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

I pointed my index finger to Maximilian.

“We can’t get back there. It’s too risky. Come on, we must go now!”

Sigmund tried to yank me forward, but I shook him off. I scowled at him while saying in my mind, 'Are you kidding me?'

Sigmund let out a long sigh. “Look! I know Maximilian is a spoiled prince, but he is also a great fighter, you know. So you don’t have to worry about him because he can take care of himself.”

Even though Sigmund said that Maximilian was a great fighter, but I couldn’t help but to worry about him. I really wanted to argue with Sigmund, telling him that we couldn’t just leave Maximilian and let him fight those werewolves alone. But because I couldn’t speak, I could only give him an anxious expression.

“He will be fine. Trust me!” Sigmund convinced me, but to be honest, I still doubted him.

“Let’s go now! Maximilian will join us later,” Sigmund said.

I stared at Maximilian one more time before nodding my head to show that I agreed to go with Sigmund.

Finally, Sigmund and I started running again. We passed many different hallways. But the last hallway we took turned out to be a dead end.

If I didn’t lose my voice, I would scold Sigmund for leading us to a dead end.

'Is he stupid or what? He has been living in this palace his whole life, right? So he should have known this place like the back of his hand. But how come he get lost in his own home now?' I grumbled mentally.

Letting go of my hand, Sigmund came closer to the wall and pressed one of the bricks on the wall. Magically, the wall parted, revealing a secret passage like those that I often see in the movies.

'Cool!' I commented in awe.

Sigmund and I walked into the secret passage. He pressed another brick and the wall closed again.

This passage was only lit by flickering candles. So it was really dim here. It took a while for my eyes to adjust to the dimness.

Sigmund suddenly pulled a vial out of his pocket and shoved it into my hand.

“Here drink this!” he ordered.

'What is this?' I asked myself while examining the vial suspiciously. It consisted of green liquid. And God knew what the liquid was for.

Even though Sigmund couldn’t read my mind, fortunately, he understood what I thought about.

“Do you want to get your voice back or not? If you do, then drink it now!” he said.

'Can I trust Sigmund?' I asked myself, 'He was there when King Bellamy gave me the potion that caused me lose my voice. I am sure he already knew what the potion was for, but he did nothing to stop the king. If he really wanted to help me, he should have prevented the king to give the potion to me back then, but he didn’t. So I doubt if this vial really consists of medicine. It could be poison.'

“What are you waiting for? Come on, drink it! We don’t have much time,” he said impatiently.

I sighed. 'I think I just have to push my luck now. If this vial really consisted of medicine, I would get my voice back. But it consisted of poison, I would be dead.'

Reluctantly, I opened the lid of the vial. Knowing from the past experience that this potion would have a very bitter taste, I pinched my nostrils between my thumb and index finger before I forced myself to swallow the whole potion.

Within seconds, the potion began to react and I started coughing up purple liquid. Once my cough stopped, Sigmund asked, “Are you okay?”

I wanted to test if the potion worked properly or not. So I opened my mouth and tried to speak. This time my voice came out, even though it was hoarse because I hadn’t spoken in a while.

“Ye—yes, I— I am fi—fine,” I managed to stutter a reply.

“Good! Your voice is back,” he said in satisfaction.

“Let’s get moving now!” Sigmund grasped my hand and pulled me along with him towards the passageway ahead of us.

“Where are you taking me?” I inquired curiously.

“To a safe place,” he answered.

“And where is that safe place exactly?” I asked again.

“You’ll find out soon enough,” he replied with a smirk.
