Chapter 78
Standing in front of a full-length mirror in my bedroom, I stared at my reflection. I was now wearing a v-neck long-sleeved white tulle wedding dress. The train of my gown swept the floor. A pair of white high-heeled shoes covered my feet.
The maids had applied a flawless make-up on my face. My hair was styled into a crown braid and was decorated with a tiara adorned with diamonds. A bridal veil set upon the tiara.
A pair of diamond earrings were hanging from my ears. My mother’s locket wrapped around my neck perfectly. Diamond charms dangled from my bracelets. They even made me to put on my engagement ring on my left ring finger.
Suddenly, Sigmund entered my bedroom, and he quickly dismissed the maids who helped me dress up.
“Are you ready?” he asked me.
I glowered at him. He knew I couldn’t speak now, thanks to his king, but he deliberately asked me a question in order to mock me.
Seeing my reaction, Sigmund chuckled. “Don’t look at me like that! I’m only joking, okay?”
'It isn’t funny,' I retorted in my mind while I kept glaring at him.
“Wow you look very beautiful tonight!” he commented whilst staring at me from head to toe.
He thought by praising me, he could dissolve my anger. But in fact, it enraged me even more instead.
'So before tonight he didn’t think that I am beautiful?' I grumbled mentally.
“Oh no we’re almost late!” Sigmund said as he glanced at his wristwatch.
Sigmund hurriedly covered my face with the bridal veil, and then he took a bouquet of red roses that was laying onto the dressing table before shoving it into my hand.
“We have to go now. Come along!” Sigmund gripped me by the arm and pulled me out of my bedroom. At last, we went to the hall where my wedding ceremony be held.
On arriving at the wedding hall, the guards who stationed in front of the room opened the double doors for us. I swept my eyes around the room. The hall was festooned with flowers and rows of white chairs on the right and left side of the room, so it formed an aisle in the middle of the room. On either side of the aisle, the guests stood in front of the chairs set up for them. They all dressed in formal attires. Their eyes were all focused on me, and it made me get tensed up.
Standing on the podium was the priest. At least, I preferred to call him like that. Because I honestly didn’t know if the vampires believe in God or religious beliefs. In front of the priest stood Prince Maximilian. He looked dazzlingly handsome in white tuxedo. He wore a white shirt with a red bow tie inside his tuxedo. Inside his breast pocket was a red rose. He also put on a pair of matching shoes. Unlike me who felt so nervous, Maximilian looked very calm. His eyes even shone with happiness.
In the front row, I saw Maximilian’s father, King Ignatius. The gleam in his eyes made me uncomfortable. It was as if that he was secretly plotting something.
Sigmund lastly let go of my arm and gave me a gentle push on the back to tell me to enter the wedding hall.
I took a long breath before reluctantly walking into the hall. I was immediately greeted by my grandfather. Delight glimmered in his eyes.
Not long after that, the music started. Then, two flower girls came out and lined up the path with white rose petals. I had never known that there were children in this vampire kingdom. Despite the fact that those little girls were also vampires, they looked so cute in white ballgowns and flat shoes, and a wreath that was set on their heads.
King Bellamy put his arm through mine, and he escorted me down the aisle. The guests’ eyes followed our every move. If we were in the human world, they surely would be taking my pictures by now so that they could upload the pictures to their social media later. But here in the vampire realm, they didn’t do that. Maybe because they didn’t have social media like the human did.
I giggled at the thought. That ridiculous thought really helped to calm my nerves.
At the end of the aisle, my grandfather hugged me and whispered, “I love you, my granddaughter.”
He sounded so sincere, but I didn’t know why I still doubted his words.
After we pulled away, King Bellamy presented me to my groom, Prince Maximilian. My grandfather placed my hand in Maximilian’s and smiled.
Everyone was taken aback seeing their king’s smile. Maybe because this vampire king seldom smiled in front of his people.
Before he walked away, King Bellamy patted Maximilian on the shoulder. Prince Maximilian responded him with a smile.
Maximilian and I turned to face the priest.
The priest said to the guests, “You now can be seated.”
Almost at the same time, the guests took a seat.
“Dearly beloved, we gather here this evening to witness this man and woman join together in holy matrimony,” the priest began.
I was not interested in listening to the priest’s speech, so I decided to let my mind wander.
'I can’t believe that I’m getting married now. And the most unbelievable fact is my future husband isn’t a human. He is a vampire. A pureblood vampire prince.'
Every girl must be dreaming of marrying a prince charming. I even ever dreamt it too when I was a kid. But when it really happened now, I didn’t feel happy at all. Maybe because I had to get married against my will.
Even though I knew it’s impossible, I wished there would be a miracle so that I didn’t have to marry Prince Maximilian tonight.
When it was time to exchange our wedding vow, I returned my attention back to the priest.
The priest inquired, “Do you, Prince Maximilian of Ambersky, of your own free will and consent, take Princess Mirabelle of Clanbella...”
'My name is Rosangela, so this wedding isn’t valid,' I commented in my mind.
Maximilian gave me a gentle nudge in the arm to tell me to shut up.
I just rolled my eyes at him and then continued listening to the priest’s words.
“...to be your lawfully wedded wife, and do you promise to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love, honor, and cherish until death do you part?”
“I do,” Maximilian answered confidently.
The priest turned to look at me. “Do you, Princess Mirabelle of Clanbella, of your own free will and consent, take Prince Maximilian of Ambersky, to be your lawfully wedded husband, and do you promise to ha—”
The priest’s words were interrupted by the sudden sound of breaking glass. We all turned to the direction of the sound and saw so many wolves entering the wedding hall through the broken windows. I knew there were not ordinary wolves; they all were werewolves.
Among the werewolves, I spotted my father’s wolf. Although I had just seen my father shifted into his wolf once, but when I saw it again, I soon recognized it.
'At long last, my prayer is answered. My father has come to rescue me,' I thought happily.
I tried to break for my father but Maximilian held me back.
“Don’t!” he warned me while shaking his head.
I really wanted to struggle to break free, but thought the better of it. I was now in a room full of vampires. Heaven knew what they would do to me if they saw me going over to their enemy.
The werewolves launched themselves at the vampires that were the nearest to them. Fighting between the werewolves and vampires finally broke out in this wedding hall.
Within seconds, Sigmund appeared in front of us. He stood in a defensive stance. Maximilian followed his action right away.
“Maximilian, take Mirabelle to a safe place!” King Bellamy ordered.
“Sure,” Maximilian responded.
“Sigmund, you come with them!” The king commanded.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Sigmund replied.
Maximilian and Sigmund each got a hold of my arm, and they brought me out of the wedding hall in a rush. Some werewolves tried to run after us, but they got waylaid by the vampire soldiers.
