Rosangela: The Half-Blood Princess

Chapter 25

After spending several days locked up in my bedroom, finally I was able to step out of this castle. It was the first time I could get a better look of this castle, because when I arrived here, I was blindfolded. This castle was apparently bigger than I thought. Most of the building was built of stones. It had four tall towers. This palace was fenced with brick wall. Trees were surrounded the whole area.

Parked in front of the palace was an expensive car. A handsome, tall, and muscular man with blonde hair and green eyes was standing next to the car.

As we approached the car, the blonde man greeted us, “Good evening, Prince Maximilian and Princess Mirabelle.”

I hate every time people call me Princess Mirabelle. My name is Rosangela for God’s sake. However, I bit backmy anger. I didn’t want to foil my escape attempt. So I replied politely, “Good evening.” Meanwhile, Prince Maximilian only responded with a brief nod.

After that, the man opened the back seat door.

“After you, Princess!” Prince Maximilian motioned me to get into the car.

“Wait! Who is the handsome man over here?” I pointed to the man with blonde hair and green eyes.

“How dare you call another man handsome in front of your future husband?” he sounded annoyed.

“I’m serious, Prince Maximilian. Who the hell is he?” I began to be upset.

Prince Maximilian then introduced him to me. “Princess, let me introduce you to Jasper. He’s going to be our driver tonight.”

I frowned. “Driver?”

He nodded. “Yep!”

“Future Husband, I think we need to talk,” I demanded.

“Okay. Just talk!” he said calmly.

“Alone,” I emphasized.

“Oh okay.” He began walking away from Jasper and I followed him.

“Why do you need a driver? Can’t you drive yourself?” I complained.

“Of course, I can. But as a prince, do I need to do it myself?” he answered conceitedly.

'Phew! Such an arrogant prince!' I thought.

'Pull yourself together, Rosanne! If you get angry, you will lose your only chance to get out of here,' I reminded myself.

“Future Husband…” I forced a smile. “If you don’t want to drive, I’ll drive for you, okay?”

“No it can’t be,” he refused, “How can I let a girl drive for me?”

“So you drive for me!”

“No, I won’t.”

“Then I’ll drive for you.”

“But—”

“No buts,” I interrupted, “We don’t need a driver. So tell him to get lost now!”

“No, I won’t tell him to go. Jasper will go with us,” he insisted.

“Why do you want him to go with us? Didn’t I tell I wanted to go with you alone? Just you and me, get it?” I asked furiously.

“Yes, I knew you told me that you just wanted to go with me,” he admitted, “However, I need him to go with me.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

“To guarantee my safety,” he replied calmly.

“To what?!” I yelled in surprise. “Oh I knew it. Then he is your bodyguard not a driver!”

“The fact is he’s both my driver and bodyguard,” he clarified.

“YOU! I told you I don’t want to be followed by bodyguards,” I reprimanded him.

“But he is not your bodyguard, but mine. You only told me that you didn’t want to go with your bodyguards, right? But you didn’t say that I couldn’t go with my bodyguard either,” he said.

'He’s so annoying!' I grumbled in my mind.

“Aren’t you a grown-up man? You don’t need a bodyguard to take care of you.”

“Well, since I am a prince and you’re a princess, we need someone to protect us. Because we never know when a threat will come to us.”

“To protect us or to make sure I won’t be able to escape?”

He shrugged.

He walked to the car and leaned on the back door. “So are you coming or not?”

'What shall I do? If his bodyguard is around, how can I find a way to escape?' I asked myself.

“Come on, Princess. We don’t have much time,” Maximilian said impatiently.

'Shall I cancel our date tonight?' I was confused.

'Wait! No, no.' I shook my head. 'I have to get out this palace tonight no matter what happens. It might be my only chance to escape, so I shouldn’t let this golden opportunity to slip through my fingers.'

“Then I am first.” Prince Maximilian got into the back seat.

“Wait! I am coming.” I ran towards the car, then hopped in, and sat beside the prince.

Jasper closed the door and then climbed into the driver’s seat.

“Drive!” Prince Maximilian ordered.

Jasper nodded and then started the engine.

As the car began pulling away from the castle, I said in my mind, 'Okay. It’s only a bodyguard, Rosanne. One bodyguard is nothing compare with ten bodyguards. If I can fool the prince, surely I can fool his bodyguard too. Can’t I?'
