The condition of the little one fluctuated

unpredictably. Seeing him adorned with instruments, my heart wrenched with every glance.

Mason remained perpetually “occupied,” his visits brief, mere minutes in duration, always in

haste.

That day, as I sipped the chicken soup lan had brought, sounds of commotion echoed from outside.

I struggled to rise, opening the door to witness lan delivering a heavy blow to Mason.

Clutching Mason’s collar, he spoke fiercely, “You

batard! Rica is still in suvh bad condition, and yet you dare frolic with other women outside.”

“lan, your words are unnecessarily harsh. Erica isn’t the sort of woman you imply,” Mason retorted involuntarily.

lan grew even more furious upon hearing this. “I’ll knock you, you shameless wretch!”

Standing at the doorway, I waited until Mason was sufficiently struck before intervening.

In the hospital room, lan asked if Mason was

with someone else.

“When I went out shopping, I unexpectedly saw him pushing a wheelchair, leisurely strolling in the park with a woman. Their intimacy was evident, and I couldn’t bear to watch.”

“I’ve sensed tension between you two since I arrived, but your frail condition kept me from inquiring,” lan remarked.

Seeing my silence, he grew impatient.

“Rica, can’t you be honest? Do you want lan to worry himself to death? Before your mother passed, I promised to look after you. But now, seeing you like this, how can I face her?”

His reproach sounded uncannily like my

mother’s.

Before I could respond, I realized my voice was hoarse, and the discomfort in my throat kept me from speaking fluently. I managed to say, “lan, I want a divorce from Mason.”

Before the words had fully settled, Mason’s voice came from outside the door, “I don’t

agree.”

Ignoring him, lan quickly asked for help in convincing me.

“Uncle, this isn’t fair to the child. He needs his father. Besides, I haven’t done anything to wrong Rica. She’s just overly sensitive. Painting me with the same brush is unfair,” Mason

pleaded.

lan glanced coldly at him, causing Mason to step back nervously.

Then, turning to stroke my head, lan smiled warmly. “Alright, if my daughter wants to leave,

we’ll leave.”

“Thank you, lan,” I blinked back tears, trying hard not to let them spill over.

Mason couldn’t believe I was giving up on him. so easily. Tears in his eyes, he implored, “Rica, don’t do this.”

I remained unmoved, my tone icy. “We can now proceed with the divorce registration. After the thirty–day cooling–off period, we will be divorced. From now on, we go our separate ways.”

“The child stays with me. You and your first love can do as you please, but spare me your nauseating presence,” I added.

Mason was unwilling to divorce, asking only for time for me to calm down before he left.

“Daughter, don’t be afraid. Ian is here,” lan reassured me, worried I might make an irreversible decision.

“Uncle, could you do me a favor? Take some photos of Mason with that woman, the more intimate the better,” I requested.

This marriage, I had resolved to end.
