Remembering You

Chapter City Lights

These city lights are never ending. It feels as if it is a trap that continues to the next. A small amount of pain hidden in each city. Murder mysteries playing their way through the empty streets at night. A hardened criminal getting shot down for a mistake he has yet to make.

I would easily get lost in the loudness of these city streets, in attempt to forget something that happened earlier in the night. Without end, these city streets keep closing in around me. I was never claustrophobic; yet in this moment I cannot escape the walls closing in around me.

The city lights used to mean there was freedom awaiting me. I was never going to be trapped by the home I lived at. Those street lights gave me hope that I could branch out. I could be free.

But you see, city lights are full of lies. A broken tale of murder mystery. Why was I always stuck in the middle? Was it a crime to run because of the fear of being caught by the one that hurt you the most?

I would easily get lost in the streets and in the hope of forgetting the pain this city brought me. I was a kid wishing for the nightmares to end. I was a teenager wishing for that call to end. I was a young adult afraid to be seen, let alone heard.

Now, I am a person terrified of what was around the corner.

The city lights are never-ending. Always continuing to the next in hopes of trapping you. I was always afraid of the dark; that is why I stayed in the city. The lights always shinned brightly and gave me hope when heading home.

But I found my way in the darkness without a glimpse of light shinning in.
