Chapter 15: "Michael"
“Answers? The answers to what?” My mom asks me.
We still stood in the foyer in the house. I look over my mind seeing she hasn’t changed a bit. Her hair was a messy bun with a bandanna for a headband. She wore a black shirt and dark jeans for the causal look she always wears. I walk over to stand in front of her.
“Let’s start with who’s here visiting you?” I told her.
She let out a sigh turning away from me going back into the kitchen. I look back towards Daniel he had a confused face, he raises his hand pointing off in the direction my mom went. I shrug my shoulders motioning for him to follow me. I waited for him to catch up with me before going into the kitchen.
“I’m apologizing now for the things you’re about to see,” I said turning to face him.
“What I’m hearing is that this won’t be boring.” He said a smile was coming on his face.
“I guess so.”
I lead us to the kitchen speaking quietly to a woman. They both turn are way upon our entrance. The woman had long blond hair and blue eyes. Like Mrs. Hall something about her facial features give me deja vu. She smiled at me when our eyes made contact. Then I remember her coming around when my dad was here.
“Hi. I think I remember you coming around when I was little.” I told her walking over to were they sat at the dinning table.
“You do! I’m one of your dad’s friends.” She said glancing slightly over at my mom.
My mom took a sip of her tea giving her a look. I made a knowledgeable noise holding out my hands to the woman. She looks back to me taking my hand.
“I just don’t remember your name,” I told her with a smile.
“Zoe. It’s good to see you again; it’s truly been a long time no see.”
“Yes, it has. This is one of my friends that I met at the Academy Daniel. Daniel this is Zoe and I think that was a proper introduction with my mom.” I said introducing Daniel.
Zoe and Daniel shook hands politely as my mom and I glared at each other. I turn from her walking towards the refrigerator. I grab two water bottles and two bags of chips from on top of the fridge.
“I hope I didn’t interrupt anything. Daniel and I can go in the living room until you guys are done. I got all day and most of the morning to talk with my mom.” I said.
“Oh, No I was just leaving right when you knock on the door. It was nice to meet you Daniel and to see you again Anglia.” Zoe said gathering her stuff.
“I’ll walk you out.” My mom offered standing up with Zoe.
“That’ll be great. I hope to see you soon Anglia. See you guys next time.”
“Wait! You said you were my dad’s friend. Do you know where I can find him?” I ask her before they could step out the kitchen.
They look at each other before turning to face me.
“No, Anglia. I haven’t had contact with your father in a while.”
“OK. See you soon.” I said waving.
I watch them walk out the kitchen with a frown on my face. Daniel walks over to me taking one of the water bottles and chips away from me. He took a seat on the island with me following after him.
“You noticed that she was lying as well?” I ask him opening my chips bag.
“As clear as daylight. What are you going to do about it?” He asks me.
“Nothing right now. Let’s talk to my mom first.”
“You two are so alike, to the look down to the personality. That’s probably why you too can’t get along.” Daniel observed looking over to me.
“We got along when my dad was here. Maybe you’re right! I grow up around my mom mostly, I could have adsorbed her attitude and personality. Like they say two of the same people can’t be in a room together.”
“Is that even a saying or you just made that up?”
“I probably did.”
My mom walks in then grabbing the coffee mugs that Zoe and her drank from. She took them to the sink pouring the rest of the discarded drink in the sink before rinsing them off. I share a look with Daniel as I told him “see what I have to deal with” with just my facial expression.
“Mom! I need to know were my dad’s at.” I told her bluntly after she stays silent even after starting the dishwasher.
“What? Why are you looking for your daddy?” She asks turning to face me.
“You know it would be nice if you’ll talk to me without asking me just questions,” I said monotone.
She huff at that opening up the fridge. Grabbing ingredients from the fridge to start dinner. I sighed getting up from the island throwing my trash away.
“I’ll help you fix dinner after showing Daniel to the bathroom. You’re not smelling to well my friend.” I said patting Daniel on the back.
He gave me a look shoving my hands off his shoulders. I gave him a sweet smile motioning for him to follow me. Daniel followed me out the kitchen going over to grab are bags from the foyer were we drop them on the floor.
“You made it out like you and your mom hate each other’s guts. I didn’t get that from what I observed.” Daniel said as we climb the staris.
“That’s because the claws are going to come out while you’re in the shower,” I told him leading him in the guest room.
“Maybe, but saying that you hate each other is overated. You offered to help her cook by the way.”
“Ok! maybe there isn’t hate us, but something is.”
“Whatever it’s it’ll disappear in the long run.”
“By the time that comes It’ll be too late,” I mumble before leaving the room.
When I got back downstairs mom already has everything warming up. I instantly knew what she was making for dinner jumping in to help her. We stay silent for a moment until I spoke up.
“Mom, if you don’t know, were my father just tells me. I just need to know, he might have the answers I need.” I said cutting up the potatoes into fries.
“What can he tell you that I can’t?” She asks.
“It’s about hampiers and vampires stuff you wouldn’t know. By the way thanks for keeping me in the shadows about me being a hampire.” I said scarcasticly.
“Not telling you about that was to keep you safe. Your dad and I both agreed to keep that part of your life a secret. Sending you to Reborn Academy was the last resort!”
“What happen? Why did you send me away? Because it was time.”
“Exactly Anglia. I’m sorry, but I don’t know where your father is.”
“Don’t bother. I’ll just find him myself, can you at least tell me his name?”
She let out a sigh comtemplating it before answering me ” Michael.”
We stayed silent after that cooking dinner with only the noise of cooking. Daniel came down ten minutes after taking the knife that I was using to cut up some fruits with, telling me to go get my stinky tail in the shower. I was actually surprise he offered to help while I go clean up. Dinner was ready by the time I came back down. The table was set and sat waiting for me. They both look over to me with a smile on their face. Daniel Ross got my mom to smile?
“Let’s eat!” I said taking a seat beside Daniel.
For the first time in forever, I had a decent dinner with my mother. If a conversation dies Daniel makes a new one.
“So you two dating?” Mom asks when were cleaning everything up.
“No, just friends. Daniel has a girlfriend.” I told her looking towards him.
“That’s an understatement. It won’t be long before that relationship is over.” He said to my mom.
“Sounds complicated.”
“It is!” Daniel and I said at the same time.
