Chapter 59

Helicopters were landing one after the other on the new pad near the Maine compound. People were running around everywhere with a purpose. Mooney watched it all from the other side of his very thick window.

“Ants,” he thought. “They need me.” He told the window. “Look at how busy they are. That’s a good thing. I did that. I make people busy. No better way to be, right? You betcha!”

His new home was a fortress. It looked like a collection of different sized gray concrete cubes connected to each other by long corridors. It was protected by the most advanced weapons known to man. Nothing could get near it. Even missiles would be shot down by a staggering amount of firepower. Super fast machine guns would rain thousands of bullets a minute on any unauthorized incoming object. It was a castle for a megalomaniac and paranoid king. Some thought too much of a stronghold. It wasn’t very inviting and certainly didn’t inspire trust and fuzzies. Mooney loved it. He liked to walk around it and feel its protection like a warm blanket. He had no plans to be “inviting”. Control through fear.

“Only thing that works right? I have to be strong and look strong. The USA will be on top again and I can make it so. Ian was right about that. Who else but me can make sure that happened? Enemies are everywhere. Enemies. Enemies. They want what I have. They want to get rid of me. They don’t know what’s best for this country. I do. I do. I do. Can’t let them win, can I? How could they possibly know what to do. I know what to do. First, let’s deal with the enemies.

Best to hit them first obviously. Right? Right!” He talked to himself.
