Chapter 15
15. Azael
My soul is soaring to know that Cassiel loves me and that she thinks we are true mates too. This changes everything for me though because having a true mate means I’ve no longer got the power of seduction. I’ve only got eyes for one angel. This means I’m out of a job. As seducing Cass had been a part of my mission, I can still hold down this job. Thank the stars. It killed me that I had to let her go when it was time for her to leave but I can’t keep her with me because I don’t want to draw attention to her. She did say she would text me when she got back to her room so I will have to be content with that for now.
I get back to my place and park the rental in the driveway but instead of going inside, I stick around on the front porch and smoke a cigarette since I hadn’t had one while at Broadway at the Beach. It’s a bit after nine and the sun has already set so I am sitting in the dark as I inhale the smoke. Out of nowhere Belial appears causing me to jump internally and a shiver passes over me. “What in Hell are you doing here,” I hiss at her. The grin on her face seems menacing and I glare at her in return.
“I saw you this evening you know,” Belial begins to say with a smirk. “Your mission has been compromised.”
“What are you talking about? Why do you claim this?” I stare at her baffled because everyone knows I’m doing my best to “seduce” one of the angels.
“I saw you with that angel. You like her, like her not in just a ‘I’ve got to seduce her’ way.” She stares into my eyes, and I try to keep my face blank of expressions. She sees something within them though. “Oh Satan! Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for the chick!” Something must flash across my eyes as I look at her because the next words out of her mouth are; “I’m going to Asmodeus with this. You’re gonna be transferred faster than lightning striking!” She goes to walk away from me, and I grab her wrist to stop her. “Let me go!” Belial growls out. I fling her arm away and it falls back to her side.
“You’ve no idea what you’re talking about Belial. Stop nosing through business unrelated to your assignment and let me do my job!” I nearly shout out. My anger is at a boiling point. I see red. She sneers at me and then storms into my house where I assume she will open a portal and leave me be.
Moments after she is gone, I hear a voice say, “I knew it! You’re just using Cass!” I turn surprised eyes to Ananliel and mutter shit! Hopping over the small brick wall, I land in front of her so that she can see my eyes.
“Listen to me Ananliel, whatever you just heard, it wasn’t true. I’m head over heels in love with Cassiel. If I can get her alone tomorrow, I plan on telling her all about the mission I was assigned to do. I know you hate me because you were hoping she would end up with your brother and I’m sorry that isn’t how things worked out but I’m telling you the truth that I’ve fallen in love with her. Please give me until tomorrow night,” I plead with her. I’m hoping she can see the desperation in my eyes.
Ananliel crosses her arms over her chest and glares at me. I’m hoping her angel-ition (intuition), has her realizing that I am being truthful. Thank the moon she concedes, “as soon as the sun has set if you haven’t told her, I will. I will also inform commander Zadkiel and make sure she is transferred immediately.” I nod, squeeze her arm and walk away from her, going into my house.
I pace back and forth across the grey carpet in my bedroom trying to comprehend the shit storm that has just come crashing down upon me. Pulling out my cell, I send Cass a message: My love, I’ve got something extremely important I need to tell you. Do you think you’d be able to sneak out and come over to my place... soon. After I send it, I run my hand through my hair about a dozen times before receiving her reply. Are you okay? I think I can, but I will have to wait until everyone has gone to sleep. I tell her okay and then begin hoping that the next couple of hours will fly by.
Roughly two hours and a half a pack of smokes later, I hear a tapping sound against the glass of my sliding door. Quickly walking across the fake wood floor of the kitchen, I slide the door across the track opening it. Cassiel looks anxious, nervous, and worried all at the same time as I pull her into the room and into my arms. And I had every intention of telling her right then and there about who I am and what I was assigned to do instead I look into her eyes and say; “I love you more than life Cass I never want to lose you.” I don’t give her a chance to say anything in return as I smash my lips against hers. She moans as she kisses me back making me groan in turn. Lifting her I wrap my arms around her waist as she wraps her legs around mine. Turning on my heels I walk us to my bedroom and drop us to the bed.
Our clothing is discarded within minutes, and she allows my lips to trace over every inch of her body. She places her hands on either side of my head near my ears enticing me to move my lips back up to hers. When my lips are securely locked with hers, she pokes and prods me until she has managed to get me on my back and she is sitting on top of my stomach, legs against either side of my waist. I draw her face back down to mine so we can continue kissing. Slowly her mouth travels along my neck, across my chest and down my stomach. Cass removes her bra, and I can’t help but think about how beautiful she is. No longer am I able to control myself, and I flip us once more. I stop a second to ask if she wants to stop, she shakes her head no and brings my mouth to hers. The very last articles of clothing are stripped away, and our unity is like magic! We both moan when we feel our souls connect with each other, confirming our suspicion of being true mates. The moment is so intense that once the sensation fades away, we collapse into each other’s arms and drift off to sleep.
Since me telling her last night didn’t happen, I plan to tell her as soon as we wake up. To my surprise though, she isn’t in my bed when I stir. I look around confused for a second before the events of last night flood my mind. Leaning over to the nightstand, I pick up my phone and see an unread text waiting for me. Clicking on it I see an apology from Cass: I’m sorry I left without waking you and letting you know. You were sleeping so soundly that I couldn’t bring myself to disturb you. I had to get back to my house so that no one would realize I had snuck out. I will figure out a way to meet up with you this evening. I love you. I wrote her back to tell her she never need apologize, and that I completely understand why she left. I added that what happened last night wasn’t why I had wanted her to come over and that we will definitely figure out a way to meet up with each other because I still needed to talk with her.
Once showered and dressed for the day I pull up my emails to see if there are any specific tasks I must do. Foreboding washes over me as I see an email that has me nervous. Taking a deep breath in, I exhale slowly clicking on the message at the same time. You have been summoned to the court of Legions and must appear immediately! Asmodeus. A few choice words fall from my mouth at seeing the summons and I quickly draw up a portal to take me to the court.
Stepping through the portal, I walk into the center of the Legions court room. It’s the type of building that is dowsed in history. Picture the historical city halls of any old city in the human world and that’s exactly what this place looks like, only older, a lot older. Taking in my surroundings, I spot Asmodeus and walk up to him. “Sir, what’s going on?” The confusion I feel is written all over my face.
“Depending on what occurs in the next twenty minutes you will more than likely be transferred out of my unit.” I stare at him dumbfounded. He can’t be serious!
“Um, okay. Do you care to elaborate further sir?” Asmodeus shakes his head no, and then takes hold of the handle of a closed door next to us pulling it open. I know once I walk into that room my current path of life is done. I take a seat next to a long oak table and look at the other fallen angels who sit around it. My focus zeroes in on Belial and the satisfied grin she has on her face. How can I get out of this? Damn her! I hope she burns in the fiery depths of Hell for an eternity.
Lucifer sits at the head of the table with Asmodeus flanking one side of him. Just as he draws the room to order an odd buzzing comes from a small machine sitting in front of him. “Yes, what is it?” He growls into the intercom.
The machine crackles for a second and then a voice can be heard. “Sir, an urgent call has come in from Asmodeus’ team. It is being reported that the angels have found the Astatine. They are wanting to know how to proceed.”
Lucifer turns his black eyes to Asmodeus. “With this information I hereby postpone this meeting until further notice. We will reconvene after we have retrieved the Astatine. Asmodeus, get on the phone immediately and sort out your next move. All dismissed.” As soon as he says this everyone stands from their chairs and leaves, all but one. Glaring from across the table Belial stands slamming the palms of her hands on the table at the same time. “Your luck isn’t going to last forever you know.” I don’t know why but I laugh. She is absolutely ridiculous. “Whatever,” I mutter before leaving the room as well. As soon as I can leave the Legion I do. I need to get back to my place and think.
