Chapter 14
14. Cassiel
Ten minutes after Aza’s last text we arrive back at the home base. I’m excited that he has figured out a way for us to meet up. Now, I just have to figure out how to get out of the house for a few hours. I decide to go with a half-truth and see if Zadkiel will be okay with me going to explore the town as I’m still a teenager and can get bored quite easily. I will even see if the rest of my teammates want to tag along. After showering I grab a flowing yellow sundress with sunflowers decorating it. I don’t own any sandals and didn’t want to wear the one pair of flip-flops that I own so I opted to wear my black and white converse without socks, and I feel that I look cute. Bounding down the stairs, I find Zadkiel in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee. “Eh hem, Sir, I was wondering if I could go exploring in the town a mile and a half away from here?” I don’t give Zad a chance to speak yet as I continue; “I won’t be by myself, or I don’t think I will. I’m going to ask if everyone wants to go out and about, sir.”
“I don’t see the harm in that, as long as at least one of your teammates is with you. If none of them go then you will remain here. Is that clear?” I salute him and grin.
“Sir, yes sir!” I squeal and dash out of the room. Running back up the steps, I pop my head into Daniel’s room first. Just before I ask, I realize he is sound asleep, so I quietly close his door and step over to Ananiel’s room and stick my head in. “Hey, Zadkiel gave me permission to go exploring in the town. You wanna tag along?”
She looks at me wide eyed, probably surprised I’m asking if she wants to go anywhere with me. She contemplates the idea for a moment before declining my offer. “Maybe next time though.” I nod my head. Closing her door, I go back to the first floor and check with Baraqiel. He says no and I’m starting to become anxious. I’ve only one person left to ask and if Turiel says no I’m grounded. I start pleading with the heavens as I make my way to his room. Knocking, I repeat my movements and stick my head in once more asking the same question of going into town. He says no but offers to drop me off so he can borrow the van and get some groceries. I smile widely and nod okay. I know, I know, not exactly the terms Zad offered but what they don’t know won’t hurt them.
Turiel said he’d be out in a few minutes, so I walk out to the van and slide into the passenger seat. Pulling out my phone I shoot Aza a quick text letting him know I will arrive in ten minutes or less and ask where we should meet. I was going to text him more, but I spotted Turiel shutting the front door to come get in the van. Beyond excited, I can hardly sit still as he backs the van out of the driveway. Come to the entrance, I will find you. Aza’s message says though I am not able to view it until I step outside of the van. Just before I close the door Turiel says, “I’ll pick you up in three hours right here, okay?” Nodding, I watch him pull away from the sidewalk. As soon as he is out of sight, I turn to look at the entrance. Scanning the throngs of people, I can’t spot Aza anywhere. I’m here, where are you? I send the message and continue to let my eyes roam over the people walking about.
I keep shifting my eyes back to the phone to see if he has messaged me back yet. Unexpectedly, arms slide around my waist, and I scream. Turning quickly ready to swing a punch I stop myself as I see Aza standing in front of me. Slapping him on the chest I grumble, “you ass! You scared me half to death!” He’s laughing at me though he has his mouth clamped tight shut, his eyes cannot suppress the humor of the situation. I squint my eyes as I try to glare at him, but it turns into laughter as I continue to look at him.
“Quick, let’s get lost in the sea of people,” he says as he takes my hand pulling me through the crowd so that we are no longer visible. “I arrived a little early and wandered about to see what we could do. The movies, nothing begins for the next 45 minutes. I came across a fun house, thought maybe we could have a little fun of our own...” Aza waggles his eyebrows at me and then winks, melting my insides. A blush creeps up my neck and settles on my cheeks turning them ruby red, but I readily agree as he takes my hand, twining our fingers together and leads me to whatever a fun house is.
Aza purchases the tickets required to enter the house and we get into the line that has formed. I am so thankful that the line moves quite quickly and before I know it, we are entering. As soon as we place our feet on the floor of the fun house it starts to rock back and forth making it difficult to walk. I giggle the whole time trying to hold tight to Aza, so I won’t fall. He’s not laughing as hard as I am, but he is laughing. After we step off the shaking platform, it takes a second to acclimatize our legs before going further. The next room is filled with mirrors and has a dizzying effect on me. I have no idea how we progressed through that room but next we found ourselves in a very dark room. Aza pulls me flush against him and then kisses me. I melt into him as I kiss him back. He deepens the kiss and I hungrily accept it. I shiver as I feel his tongue brush against mine and I want more from him, so much more!
A loud beep causes us to jump a part and then laugh. I tug on his hand and say we should probably go into the next section. As we enter, the floor feels squishy, making me want to jump on it. We bounce across it and then come to what looks like the last section of the fun house. We have to walk through a tunnel that spins. I end up on my knees laughing my ass off as I crawl across the tube tumbling out the other side of it. “Oh my gosh! I’ve never had so much fun,” I exclaim as Aza takes my hand in his again.
He smiles as we walk away from the fun house and amongst the throngs of the crowd once more.
“It’s just about 7 o’clock, do you still feel like going to see a movie or would you like to see if we can find somewhere a little quieter?” Aza asks as he looks at me. One look into his eyes and I can see that he is no longer interested in seeing a movie.
My heart thuds hard against my chest and I look around for anything suitable. “I told you I got here early Cass; I’ve already found a place for us.” I succumb to the giddiness that’s drowning me and follow him. We don’t walk far before he pulls me into a darkened alcove of a building being renovated. Immediately I grab the front of his tee shirt and tug him to me so I can crush my lips against his. I never want to let go of him! Aza walks me up against the wall, pinning me to it. Neither of us can stop from touching the other, our hands roam all over each other. Suddenly he hooks his arms under my thighs lifting me up and I automatically wrap my legs around his waist. With my hand in his hair, I move my lips to trail them along his neck before returning them back to his mouth.
“Cass, there’s something I need to tell you, but I don’t want to freak you out...” Aza leans back a bit so he can see my eyes. Butterflies stir in my stomach, but I whisper okay. “I’ve fallen head over heels in love with you!” Oh my gosh, I can’t breathe! He just said he was in love with me.
“Really?” As I ask this, he nods his head and so I don’t hesitate to profess my love for him too. “There’s a word I’ve heard of before and I feel like it pertains to us.” He looks at me quizzically “Have you ever heard the term true mate?” His eyes are wide, a stunned expression upon his face. “What’s wrong?” I ask nervously.
“Oh, nothing’s wrong. I just can’t believe you think we are true mates. I was just thinking that earlier today.” My turn to look stunned. We crush each other with our lips once more sharing a passion unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. And then my phone begins to beep continuously. Aza drops me to my feet so I can retrieve my phone from the pocket of my dress. I click the side button and see that it’s five till nine and I groan.
“Ugh, I’ve got five minutes to get back to the entrance. Turiel said to be waiting for him at nine.” He looks sad that I have to leave but he doesn’t complain, just takes my hand and begins to walk me back. When we’re just feet away from the entrance but still not visible to the front, Aza pulls me against him for one last intense kiss. Breaking apart I whisper, “I love you. I’ll text you when I’m back home and in my room.”
“I love you too.”
