Psychic Enchantress

Chapter 31. Missing

QKalina’s POV

“Xayla its getting late. You need to get up now or you’re gonna be late for school.” I shouted.

I can’t even remember what time she went to bed last night. I left her downstairs eating a tub of ice cream because I was completely fatigue. We were watching Pretty Little Liars from the first season. We watched entire first one and that’s when I decided to hit the sheets. She stayed but I told her she needed to go to bed soon.

I’ve been playing the mother figure in her life ever since mom died. I was here in New York majoring in biochem at Harvard. It was my last year in school when I got the call that mom had died. I had just finish my finals and she called me the day before saying that she couldn’t wait until I graduated so she could be with me again. But she died.

I went back to Florida and got a job so I could be there for dad and Xay. Little did I know, dad wasn’t planning on being around soon either. He died a couple week’s after finding out that Xayla was Psychic. He got so depressed because he thought he was going to lose his daughter as well. He considered being Psychic a curse and the only result was death. After he died, I stayed strong for Xay, but I realized she was the one who remained strong. Not once did she shed a tear when mom died. Not even when dad died. I know she’s hurting on the inside, its only a matter of time when she finally breaks. I’ll be there for her of course. Like I always have for two years.

“Xayla!” I called out once more. I didn’t hear a sound coming from her room so I went upstairs and knocked on her door.

“Xay?” I called, knocking the door.

No answer.

I opened the door and peeked. When I saw what I saw, I pushed the door open even wider.

“Xayla!” I shouted, looking in her bedroom. She was no where in sight. I looked in her bathroom, her closet, under her bed. Nothing.

I ran downstairs to check if her car was gone but it was still there parked in the driveway. I ran back upstairs and observed her bedroom keenly. It seemed like she didn’t sleep here the night because her bed is neat. I rang her cellphone in hopes that she would answer.

“Pick up pick up.” I murmured growing anxious by the minute.

"Hi Elena here. Sorry I missed your call. I was probably avoiding you or i’m just busy. Leave a message!” It went straight to her voicemail.

I heard the doorbell ring and sprinted downstairs to see who it was. I opened the door to find Mason standing there.

“Oh hi Kalina. I’m here to pick up Xayla. ” he said.

What the hell is going here. Where the hell is Xayla. I felt like I was going to faint. This can’t be happening again. I was sure I that I locked the doors last night. Unless she went outside. Oh god oh god oh god. What am I gonna do? Should I call the police? But what if it was those scientists. Whatever they’re doing is illegal because that’s straight up holding her against her will which therefore makes it kidnapping. I mean, I don’t think they have any proof that Xay is psyhic. There are so many psychics out there. I know Xayla’s different but that’s straight up kidnapping. Yup. Definitely calling the police. I should’ve done this before.

“Kalina what’s going on?” I hear Mason ask. I forgot that he was standing there. Its cold out so I dragged him in and closed the door.

I walked over to the landline and dialed.

“911 what is your emergency?” The operator asked.

“My sister has gone missing.” I cried.

Mason looked at me with panick and anger stretched across his face. Poor kid.

“Okay mam i’m going to need you to come by the station and file an official report.” The operator said once more.

I hung the phone up and grabbed my purse and keys. I pulled on my coat and boots and headed out the door. I saw a black range rover parked in my way and I forgot that Mason was here. I turned back to find him still in the same stop, frozen with a dreadful expression.

“Mason go to school.” I instructed him.

“I’m coming with you.” He snapped his head in my direction and furrowed his brows. I didn’t have any time to argue with him so I let him come along.

In twenty minutes we pulled up in front of NYPD. I walked to the front desk and saw a man there on the phone.

“Excuse me i’m here to report my missing sister.” I said to him trying not to let my voice crack.

He hung up the phone and pointed me to someone in a suit. “Speak with him. He’s Detective Lawrence. ”

I nodded and walked over to where Detective Lawrence was and cleared ny throat of any crackiness before I spoke. Mason remained quite by my side.

“Excuse me Detective. The man at the desk told me I should talk to you.” I said to him.

He looked up at me and Mason with a questioning look.

“How may I help you miss?” He asked.

“My sister has gone missing.” I sighed.

He grabbed a notepad and a pen. “Tell me in detail what happened up until she went missing.”

“Well we were watching Netflix but I left her downstairs because I grew tired. When I woke up this morning, she wasn’t up as yet so I went ahead and did my routine. It was getting late so I shouted for her to get up. I did it twice but I didn’t hear anything. I went upstairs to find her room empty and her bed spread still in order. ” I explained.

“Okay i’m going to have to come by your house to see if I find anything that could relate to your sister’s disappearance. But first, what’s her full name and age? And please describe what exactly she was wearing the last time you saw her.”

“Her name is Xayla Maguire but she sometimes go by Elena. She’s eighteen years old. She was wearing a black sweatpants and a white tank top. Oh and here is a picture of her” I quickly briefed and gave him the picture I have of her. He wrote what I told him and gave it and the picture to an officer.

“File a missing report on this girl.” I heard him say.

We went back home and the detective started to look at things and took pictures of stuff. I had no idea what he was doing. Xayla watched Law and Order a bunch of times so she would’ve known.

“There’s a sign of struggle here.” He pointed to the two plant pots that were on the ground spilled over. How did I not see this earlier.

“Mam is there anything that you could tell me that would help in finding your sister?” He questioned.

I have to tell him about the scientists. I have to. Its the only way to find her and put an end to all this.

“Yes, there is.” I sighed, looking at the officer.
