Chapter 57 - Idiotic Man
Recap
We walked into the main cavern and everyone was running around as if they lost their minds. I saw Sophia rolling her eyes and trying to get everyone’s attention. I whistled as loud as I could, everyone ducking down with their hands over their ears. It kind of hurt mine too but I wanted to know what had happened for everyone to act the way they were doing.
“What the fuck is wrong with all of you?” Sophia yelled, crossing her arms over and chest and staring each of them down.
I was so proud
No one said anything. “Don’t tell me no one heard my sister’s question.” Again, the all looked down and I looked at Madrid. “Someone better tell me now!” I yelled at the top of my lungs.
Cats POV
“They shot Cruz. He’s in the hospital in critical condition and you dad wants to go to see him,” Martim confessed, my heart shuddering in my chest.
I turned to look at my dad, crossing my arms over my chest. “Why are you acting stupid, Dad? You know they will have you taken out as soon as you walk into the doors. They won’t care if it’s in front of witnesses or not. Bang, one shot. You’ll be dead and it will kill all of us.”
Our dad looked between all of us, settling his eyes on Sophia, but Sophia crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head no. “She’s right, Dad. You won’t even make it out of this bunker. They will be looking for your helicopter and will shoot you down. If they miss you will still be dead as soon as you get to the hospital. You know the place will be crawling with the grunts and maybe the twins. They will be able to infiltrate the security. They will have someone on staff, too.”
“So, what? I’m supposed to leave my dying son in the hospital alone?” He yelled and walked over and stood in front of Sophia. I followed him as quick as I could and stood shoulder to shoulder with her, our mom doing the same to us.
“Dad, you know she’s right. Cruz sold us out to the cartel. What would you have done if they got their hands on us because of what he did?” I asked, our dad taking a step back from my words.
“I would have come after you,” he whispered, his voice cracking.
“And, you would have died,” Sophia added, a tear falling down her cheek, she quickly wiped away.
Idiotic man
“He’s got a lot of his men with him, let’s see if the twins are with him,” I commented as I pulled the laptop towards me.
“Cat, can you hack into the system without the cartel knowing about it?” Madrid asked.
I rolled my eyes and dug into my rucksack pulling out the dvd I had a copy of. I popped it in the computer and hacked into the security system, mirroring my computer instantly. “Does that answer your question?”
I looked at the security cameras in the, well, security office and looked at the men. I could tell they were all cats and so could my dad. I started looking for Cruz’s room and realized he would be in the I.C.U. ward. I skimmed over the patients and didn’t see him in any of the rooms. I pulled up the directory and checked patient rooms, not finding his name. I checked to see if he had been in the hospital at all, but he hadn’t.
I turned towards my dad and scowled. “Where did you get the information about Cruz being shot and in critical condition?”
“Shit!” I started logging off everything and closing it all down. I would need to reconfigure the whole system if I wanted to watch our backs. “Great! While you were fighting with everyone else they have been hacking us. I’m not sure if they have our location or not. I have to reconfigure everything,” I told him as I typed furiously.
“I told them to let you know first hand,” Sophia told me. “Is there anything I can do?”
“Yeah, can you take the camera’s down in each corner of this room?” I asked her without looking up.
“Sure.”
“What can I do?” Martim asked as he sat down next to me.
“Grab another laptop and get the cd out of my rucksack that’s marked with the number two.” I heard Martim take off running. “Oh, it’s in the pocket I sewed inside.”
“Got it,” he said as he sat down next to me. “What do I do?”
“How much skill do you have on a computer?” I asked, not taking my eyes off my laptop.
He leaned against me. “I can hack the Pentagon,” Martim whispered as close to my ear as he could.
“Really?” He nodded, putting his finger up to his lips.
I nodded my head. “Put the disc in and it should be self explanatory, but if you need held navigating my mind fuck, then don’t hesitate to ask me.”
I heard him and a few of the guys chuckle. But, I heard my dad loud and clear. “What do you mean he lied?”
“For fucks sake, Dad. They played you and made sure you took your time finding out. They had time to hack our security because you were causing a scene,” Sophia said, an annoyed look on her face.
“Shut it, Matheus!” Our mom yelled. “You got played, sucker.” We all busted out laughing. I was trying to keep from rolling on the floor at her words. I couldn’t believe she had to tell him to shut his mouth. I swear his IQ just went down by more than half.
“What can we do to help?” Dragon asked me instead of Madrid.
I cut my eyes over to Madrid and saw him with his head in his hands. “Madrid, do you have anything for the men to do?” I asked him. I was curious as to why he wasn’t saying anything.
When Madrid didn’t say anything I sighed. “Whoever is really sleepy should sleep and the others should train. We aren’t sure if we are going to need to bug out soon or not, it depends on if they hacked me back and can follow the feed to us.”
Dragon grabbed the men and left the room, Sophia following them after giving me a nod. I knew she would be training with them, but I was worried she would fall asleep on the mission - should we need to bug out. I had to remember that she was a big girl and would know if she needed sleep or not.
I looked over at Martim’s laptop screen and saw he was doing what he needed to, so I kept at work on my screen. It wasn’t long before I could open our security on an old purchased wifi station I had eons ago. I checked outside the bunker and let out a breath of relief at the emptiness.
“Got em’!” Martim yelled, waking up Madrid and almost causing him to fall on his face.
“Are you sure they don’t know what you are doing? They haven’t got into our security yet,” I asked, getting an eye roll from him instead. “Look and listen.”
I heard shouting and a man being beat down. “What happened! I thought you were close to hacking their system, but no, you had to play around.”
“I didn’t play around, sir, I was following her wifi signal and backhacking also. Her signal just disappeared and another one hasn’t been picked up yet. I know how to do my job and they won’t be able to get back into our system, that I can guarantee you. Our system is built tighter than the Pentagon.”
I started laughing, tears coming out of my eyes. I was positive I snorted about six times, but what the ‘man’ said was too funny. “Tighter than the Pentagon?” I asked, laughter in my voice, Martim snorting a few times.
“Did you hack the Pentagon, Cat?” Madrid questioned me.
“What? I’m not completely ficking insane, Madrid. No, he was telling the twins his system was tighter than the Pentagon when Martim was already in it.”
“What? You are back in their system? What happens if they back hack you again?” Madrid fired question after question at me without taking a breath.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head at him. “They can’t. They were trying to find a wifi system from around here.” I paused. “My wifi system is back in the states. I bought it under an assumed name when I was ten-years-old. I have kept it up to date this whole time.”
“Oh.” He shook his head. “What does that even mean?” I squinted my eyes at him. “I know how to take care of squads of men, but not how a computer works.”
“They can’t follow our hack back to us at all,” was all I said.
“One other question, well, two.” I nodded. “Where is Cruz and your dad?” I nodded again. “And, where did my men go?”
“Cruz is probably in Mexico. I’m not sure where my dad is but he’s definitely not at the hospital or Mexico. And, you were asleep so the men went to bed or to train. You’re welcome,” I cheekily sang out. “Oh, Madrid, they don’t know that you were sleeping, they thought you were upset with our dad and zoned out. You’re welcome, again.” He nodded and smiled before walking off.
“You’re good at this,” Martim complimented me.
“I’ve been managing my family for a long time. Madrid’s family and so are the men. It’s why you will hear me call them uncle every once in a while. I only do it when I want something, but they don’t know.”
He started laughing, stopping quickly to turn up the sound, but they weren’t talking out loud. I noticed they were using sign language and smiled. “Shit! I don’t know sign language well enough to follow their hands.” I tapped his hands and pointed at myself. “You know sign language enough to know what they are saying?” He asked me slowly, as if I couldn’t do two things at once.
“Yes. I. Can,” I said montosuly, enounciating each word letting him know I could do both of them at the same time.
“Sorry.” I nodded my head and kept an eye on them. I found out some really good stuff, but I was worried a lot of it was made up. I believed them when they signed about their hacker, I could see the anger in their eyes at having lost us.
“Okay, they are mad at their ‘idiotic’ hacker for losing our trail. But, I’m not sure if the rest of the information is true or not. They signed a lot of their plans. I don’t think they trust anyone that much, at least not enough to sign in front of the cameras.”
“Unless, they don’t know there are cameras set up in their office..."
