Project Rescue - A Shifter Novel (NaNoWriMo19)

chapter 74 - Book It

I was about to open my mouth to put him in his place but...

“She doesn’t answer to you. She’s a naval officer and you,” he pointed at screech, ’better be glad she keeping herself under control. You don’t scream when there are babies sleeping. Now go wait in the hallway before I make you,” Madrid ordered, pointing towards the door.

I wanted to laugh at Madrid commanding the police officers but I kept myself in line for once. The police didn’t know what to do. I wanted to have my arm fixed and get the hell out of this hospital so I was trying to be a shy and quiet little mouse. The officers finally nodded their heads and they stepped out of the room with Madrid. Madrid was going to dumb down the information by a lot. I knew he couldn’t say much on an operation but he would explain as much as he was allowed to.

The doctor came in and asked me if I was ready. I went over and kissed my babies, giving Matheus a kiss too. Matheus told me he would watch our babies and he was sure Madrid would stay too. To say I was relieved would have been an understatement. I was about as ready as I could be.

The nurses had me lay on a gurney that I was really excited about laying on. I was rolled into the operating room right away. The anesthesiologist asked me questions while the nurse started another damned I.V. It wasn’t another ten minutes before I was given medicine that knocked me out.

I woke up from surgery and looked around. I wanted to be with my mate and my babies. I stayed in the recovery room for over an hour, well, maybe a little less. I started bitching about my babies and how someone tried to baby-nap them. I was taken to my room to shut me up. I didn’t care why, I was happy with everything, except for having to come back for a cast after my the swelling in my arm goes down.

I slept for a while and was awoken by Calleti’s cries. She was not a happy baby. My eyes snapped open and I sat straight up in the bed. I looked around for my babies and my eyes landed on Flirt holding Calleti. I was surprised he would even touch a baby. He always seemed the playboy type but I guess I was wrong or he was teaching one of my daughters how to be a mini Flirt.

Oh, hell no!

“You better not be teaching one of my daughters how to be like you, Flirt. You wouldn’t like how my jaguar would make a chew toy out of you,” I quietly told him.

He looked up at me, fear in his eyes. “I was telling her about a lullaby my mom used to sing to me. I promise I wasn’t sharing my trade secrets with her,” he explained with a cocky grin.

I watched as Matheus fed Sophia. He was a natural or Sophia thought her daddy could do no wrong. Probably the latter. I looked around for Cruz, our son, and found Warrior feeding him. I had to shake my head twice to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. Warrior was a heavily built man. His arms were as thick as most males' thighs. He was broad chested and tall - almost six-feet-six-inches. I looked around for Madrid but I didn’t see him anywhere.

“Hi, Warrior,” Warrior waved but kept his eyes on Cruz. “Matheus, where’s the General?”

“He’s still talking to the police. But, the JAG lawyers are with him. He can’t give too much information on our last mission, it’s classified. He’ll be here in a little while. We go home in an hour if you are feeling okay.”

“Yes, please. I’m ready to get out of here. I don’t trust that someone will come at us with the babies in tow. Where are we going?” I asked, excited about leaving this place.

“We can either stay at the base or go to a new place I bought. If we stay on the base I will be able to help more with the babies seeing as it’s going to be hard for you to take care of three babies with your arm in a cast. Marteo's wife said she will help. Her name is Carlote and she’s a lot like you. I never wanted to mess with her,” Matheus explained the situation.

“She’s exactly like you, Selina, except she doesn’t fight on missions. She can flay a person with her tongue and she has had some training in martial arts,” added Warrior.

“Doesn’t matter where I stay as long as my babies are safe. I’m afraid this is going to be only the first wave. They will be sending people after us from California. I was hoping they wouldn’t know who killed Barbosa but I should have known better. Damn it. We would probably be safer on the base.” I sighed and laid back down. I was so ready to leave. I haven’t been this inactive in awhile and it was driving me crazy. And, now that I couldn’t shift it would be worse. At least I won’t have to hide in our room, I thought.

Thirty minutes later Madrid came back in the room, rolling his eyes and rubbing the back of his neck. “Damn, police, they kept trying to trip us up. I guess they thought I was an amateur. Seriously? Now, where’s my Cruz?”

Warrior stood up and handed Cruz to Madrid. “Good you can change his nasty ass. He pooped and spit up on me,” Warrior stated. I laughed but stopped quickly. Oh, God, that will be me with shit all over me.

Nice

“Thanks, Warrior. Thanks a lot for the help with the three babies. I wasn’t expecting three children all at once. But, the fates stick it to you when your down,” I joked with him.

Warrior left and went back to base as Madrid rocked Cruz. He looked as if he knew what he was doing. It was amazing to see Madrid and Warrior interacting with the babies. I could see Madrid having a baby uniform made for Cruz. I snorted out loud, getting the attention of the men.

“What?” Matheus asked.

“I was imagining Madrid having a baby uniform made for Cruz. And, you, making all the babies armored suits,” I commented, causing both men to smile big.

“That’s not a bad idea,” Matheus told us.

I could see him sizing up the babies, getting ready to make our babies their own suits. Why did I have to open my mouth and say my thoughts aloud? I needed to quit. Oh, well, at least the children would be safer if he did make them a suit. He would probably make them the suits and their own little flap jackets. This time I laughed out loud and wiped my eyes as the men were looking at me as if I was crazy, which I kinda am.

The nurse came in to take out my I.V., noticing I had already pulled it out. She didn’t say anything about it though. She was showing me my discharge papers and where to sign everything. I read through every paper. I wasn’t signing these forms and then find out I gave my babies up for adoption or gave them to someone else. Wasn’t going to happen. She was glaring at me but my son’s glare was a lot better. She started tapping her foot until I growled at her and she hid behind Matheus, grabbing his arm and jostling Sophia. I growled again as she squeaked, sounding like a mouse.

“Get away from my mate and I’ll bring these papers to the nurse's station when I’m done. You’re dismissed,” I ordered, looking up at her when she didn’t move. “That meant, you get out of my room.”

She ran out of the room as I heard Matheus sigh. I looked up and went back to reading every word. When I was done I signed my name and took the paperwork to the nurse's station. I looked for the nurse who was in my room a few minutes ago but she wasn’t around. So, it was my turn to tap my foot for about a minute.

“Hello. You wanted this damn paperwork. Can you come and get it please?”

The door opened and the nurse, who was in my room, scurried over and took the paperwork from me. She handed me my prescriptions and my appointment card for my arm, scurrying back into the room she was before.

“You’re welcome,” I sarcastically said. I didn’t care for this hospital. They weren’t there to watch over my newborn babies and it pissed me off. They should have never been allowed to even breach the nursery. I guess I kinda did but my circumstances were different from his.

I walked back into my room. “Who wants to blow this popsicle stand?”

Madrid and Matheus got up and put the babies into their car seats. I was wondering if I could help in any way but I had my bag wrapped around my shoulder to my hip. I wasn’t going to be much help. I was worried about taking care of my babies. How was I supposed to diaper them or change their clothes? How was I supposed to feed them? I was sure Matheus was already thinking of things to build to help me with the babies. Calleti, Sophia, Cruz, Matheus, and I were going home and it was all that mattered.

I couldn’t wait to see if our triplets would be smart like their daddy or a smart ass like me. I guess I would find out, but not now.

"I can’t wait either,” Rawr sighed, using my eyes to see her pups. ”They’re beautiful."
