Project Rescue - A Shifter Novel (NaNoWriMo19)

Chapter 62 - Meeting Of Monsters

We were on a holding pattern until we heard the wind from the blades of a helicopter - Matheus helicopter to be exact. The helicopter swooped over us and started firing bullets and raining down fire on everyone in the compound, leaving the prison and women’s area alone. It was a beautiful sight from what I could see. Matheus and I rushed through the side of the wall and started shooting our own deadly fire on the men. The fuckers were running and screaming, completely forgetting their training. I looked up at the sound of another HELO and watched as men repelled out of it. They all looked intimating and were huge. They were quick and soon we had an army. I watched as the HELO joined the fight with Flirt and Eagle, staying away from the prison and the section housing the women.

I looked around me as Matheus and I went back to back. I could feel the presence of Barbosa but I couldn’t see him yet. I kept firing my gun and throwing my blades. I was hit by a bullet, grunting from the pain of the hit. It wasn’t as bad as it would have been. Between the armor suit and the bulletproof vest I was set. I fired at the man who hit me and he went down hard. I kept firing making sure I didn’t hit our own men. I knew the way we were spread out it would be harder to hit them. It was why we had different insertion points. Most of the men had climbed the walls, making their way to the safe zone.

I heard Matheus grunt and watched as he killed the man, turning around quickly as I was hit by another shot, cursing in pain. I fired at the man as he ducked. My shot took his head and turned into mush. I moved us to another point we were assigned to and crouched down, perfectly in sync with Matheus. It was easier to see low because of the flames still burning. Matheus and I started firing at the fuckers as they were lining up to take their shots. My jaguar helping me to see a lot better. I heard Matheus grunt and cuss at the pain. He had to have been shot multiple times for him to have felt the bullets. I looked over my shoulder and threw my blade into the man coming around the flames. He was trying to sneak up on us but he didn’t have our training and showed his hand too early. I turned back around to the fucker who thought he could sneak up on me. I threw a blade at his head while loading another cartridge into my rifle. The fucker went down and now I was ready to shoot again.

The shooting was slowing down. All the men were confirming there were only three people left and we might want to meet them. I was wondering what was up. Why was there still three men alive? Matheus and I made our way to the three men. The soldiers parted, letting Matheus and I through. Now, I understood why there three men left. One was Antonio and the other two were Barbosa and Claw. Barbosa was holding Claw in front of him.

“What do you want, Barbosa? I asked, glaring at him. If my glare had been any harder he would have been six-feet under.

“I want you!” Barbosa yelled. “I want my paperwork back!”

“I’m sorry your wants aren’t my wants,” I told him.

“I’ll kill him and then the trainer will bring you to me.” He was laughing at me but I would have the last laugh.

I smiled a sickly sweet smile at him. “Go ahead, kill him. It’s not as if you were not going to do it anyway.” Claw gaped at me as I signed to him.

“Okay,” he said as he stabbed Claw in his liver and threw him to the ground.

Claw was an excellent actor, playing as if he was in pain and dying. I thought Flirt had the acting skills but Claw beat him.

“No!” I yelled out as Matheus grabbed my arm to keep me from running to Claw. It wasn’t as if I was going to run to Claw. Matheus knew it was an act.

“Now what? Your precious friend is dying and for what? You?” Barbosa yelled.

I saw him nod his head as I was grabbed my throat. I knew it couldn’t be Antonio. I was thrown to Barbosa. As Barbosa pulled me in front of him I saw who threw me. It was Carlito, the scum of the earth. I watched as Matheus tried to run at me as Madrid held him back. I smiled at them and signed to the side. I didn’t want Carlito to see me sign. I wasn’t sure if he knew sign language.

“I’ll kill her if you don’t leave - all of you!” Barbosa yelled at the soldiers. “Leave now!”

I smiled even wider when they didn’t move.
