Chapter 47 - Smoke Signal
A/N Dedicated to Alysia Hyland. Thanks for your comments.
I shouldered them out of the way and stood in front of them, turning around to face them.
“Looking for me?” I asked quietly, hearing our men laughing from the coms.
The two men’s eyes went wide, their jaw dropping as they stared at me. I snapped my fingers in their faces.
“Yes, we have been looking everywhere. Where have-”
I pulled my blades up quickly and stabbed both men in the chest. They almost fell on top of me as I moved them off the path and into the forest. I covered them with dead foliage. As I went to turn around I felt the last man move. He wasn’t quiet and he stepped heavy. I pulled my blades, waiting on him to show up. He wasn’t on the path. Smart. He pushed a snake out of the way and saw me. He pulled his radio up and I threw my blades, hitting him in the head and throat. I didn’t want him to be able to call and say anything. My blades were in places I was taught to cause as much disruption in the nervous system and speech. I walked over to him and pulled my blades out, wiping my blades on his shirt. I dragged him to a space near the other two I had killed, covering him with spray and leaves.
“How the hell did you kill all three by yourself?” Flirt asked through the coms, shaking his head.
I shrugged my shoulders, making sure Flirt could see me. “I was trained how to kill multiple targets. Of course, my targets were trying to kill me, or more like hurt me. I have killed up to eight men at one time,” I answered. If he wanted to know more about my training I would tell him. I wasn’t ashamed to tell anyone. The shame laid at the monsters feet for making my training a sporting event. I had to act as if I couldn’t get the men at times. It sucked when I knew I could take them out. Oh, well.
We waited on more of the men to show up, listening to the other team counting out their kills. Flirt was also calling out our kills, going as far as to tell them about mine. We didn’t have to wait long.
“Grab the ones in the back. I’m going to surprise the two guys in front,” I explained my plan.
I found a limb low enough for what I wanted to do. The men would never see me coming. As before I watched Matheus, Warrior and Flirt take out their men. I was sitting on the limb, hid behind its foliage. As soon as the men made it close to the limb, I swung down from the limb. I was hanging upside down and looking straight into their faces.
“What’s up?” I cheekily asked the two men. I didn’t give them time to answer. I cut their throats and dropped from the limb in a back flip. The guys hadn’t fallen yet. They were holding onto their throats trying to talk.
Wasn’t going to happen.
I grabbed both men and dragged them to the other three men. It was a good spot for them. The monkeys had shit in the area, dropping poop from high up in the trees. I deposited the men and covered them up. I didn’t want to use the spray, especially since they stunk already. It was as if something had crawled up the ass and died. I shuddered, looking around for the other guy or guys.
I moved up into the tree I was in before and faded back into the foliage. You couldn’t see me but I could see everything. I knew exactly where our men were. Their eyes were shining. They needed to close their eyes as much as possible, only looking out in a squint. Hearing was one of their best options to use in this situation.
We waited for the next group of assholes. We were conversing between each every once in awhile. We listened to the other team as they took out their men. They were slowly moving towards our position, killing Barbosa’s men as they came.
I was worried about taking out the monster. My stomach was in knots. I knew what he was capable of. But, he didn’t know what I could do. I would love to take him out in person but I thought it might be better shooting him from afar. I knew I was being unrealistic. We had to go into the compound. We had to get the girls away from him. I was worried about them, hoping they didn’t kill themselves when they saw I wasn’t there. I had told them if I got away I would come back and save them. I even gave them a potion to take to keep them from getting pregnant. They would have to take it every couple of days but I had made a lot of it, the monster never knowing.
I was pulled out of my thoughts by a smell in the air. I smelt smoke, a lot of smoke. I looked toward the compound, noticing flames from what I thought was the middle of the compound - the training grounds. It was going to be harder to get through the compound with it lit up. The monster was way ahead of us with his plans.
Damn it!
